  1. That really looks great, sits much better on the new chassis. I had the Revellaser back in the day and that chassis was really weird. Kinda looked like it got caught morphing from Revells first funny chassis in the Heavy Hugger & Boss Mustang, to the much more accurate style as in the Jungle Jim Vega, McEwen Duster, etc.
  2. Oh yeah, love that car! Great work, more pics would be nice.
  3. Wow-wee another wild one in the works! How do you come up with these ??? Lookin'n great, love the color! The side profile kinda reminds me of the Garlits/Jocko streamliner. Awesome!
  4. The one that really frosted me was the RC2/AMT Hemi Under Glass re-issue from '06. The box clearly depicted a second-generation Barracuda with a different paint scheme. Inside was the '66 HUG that had recently been reissued by the Model King, part-for-part.
  5. Wow that's really sweet! I had that MPC funny car back in the day, "The Cyclops" right? I remember being disappointed with the stock bodies in most of the funny car kits of that era, but you've certainly made great use of that one.
  6. Man, that thing is cool! Wallace and Gromit, awesome! I really dig the OCIR sticker in the rear window too, nice detail! Ira, you really bring the FUN!!
  7. Kinda doing your own thing with the old "Dodge Revellion" funny car concept. Kool!
  8. Wow, that's really nice! Especially considering the kit you started with.
  9. That's verrry nice, you really suceeded in enhancing the body lines. Those 'cudas are one of my all-time favorite designs and I'm always a bit apprehensive when one gets customized. Does anybody remember the '70s movie "Corky" wherein Robert Blakes' character navigated parts of his downward spiral in "customized" cuda sporting a Daytona/Superbird wing?
  10. Man, that is just too cool! I really like the clean look of the boat with the engine hidden, just as smooth as the Impala.
  11. Growing up in Chicago during the late '60s-early'70s, I remember getting kits at Jewel/Osco food stores, Rexall and Walgreens drug stores, 7-11 and White Hen Pantry convenience stores and a few auto parts stores. I even got the Revell '70 Mustang Grande kit at Radio Shack for like a buck or so during Christmastime. I once found an original AMT Ala Kart at a neighborhood store (for the youngsters, this would be something that existed everywhere before the onslaught of 7-11s, etc.) that had a few kits. I recall almost every dime and department store having models, even JC Penny, Weiboldts and Sears. Now most of my purchases are done online with a smattering of LHS and Hob-Lob thrown in.
  12. Wow that's really nice, and clean! Really nails the look, great take on candy red too.
  13. Competition Resins recently came out with a new body for the Malco Gasser Mustang that looks pretty good in the small photos I've seen. This could finally be a readily available solution for that funky MPC thing. Anybody seen one up close yet?
  14. Waaay Kool! That's just amazing work!!
  15. That's great news! I found it unbelievable that they would not be around. Not being familiar with the legalities, I thought that certainly someone else would pick up the ball. As has already been stated, there's no one else really doing this stuff (vintage drag racing)at their level. There have been several companies that have come and gone and I found myself regretting not pulling the trigger and missing the boat on some really cool subject matter. Bad Habit comes to mind. There are also some new decal guys doing some really great stuff and while I have bought from them, the lions share of what I have accumulated is by Slixx. Now if only the elements of time and space would align so's I could start using 'em...
  16. Looks great, love the color! Very nice work, especially considering what you had to start with.
  17. I've always really liked this car but never had the kit. I don't recall seeing them in stores, even in the early '70s when I first started building. In fact, the only place I've ever seen one for sale is ebay. Does anyone know why this has never been reissued?
  18. I recall having a blown gasser style release called the "Superstang" with a choppped top looking a lot like that, also molded in yellow. Maybe they got a little more mileage outta this kit than we thought?
  19. What got me started was stumbling across the Revell Henry J at a drug store when I was 10 or 11. What kept me going was building with my older brother who ended up building the J 'cause I had no skills whatsoever, he helped me get through my first few kits. What inspired me to get better was Car Model magazine and specifically the work of Hank Borger. Not only were his builds enjoyable, creative and informative, but he also had a very entertaining style of writing that he applied to all of his work whether a backstory of a build or a new kit review. I still have a few issues of CM and will pull them out from time to time to get all warm and fuzzy. What inspires me now are the members of this forum taking car modeling to heights I never dreamed of. There are truely some amazingly creative people here with truely mad skills!
  20. Wow, what a great update of a classic show rod. Concept to execution, this thing rocks! Thanks for sharing.
  21. That's awesome! I was starting to wonder what happened to this kit. After the initial press release earlier this year, there wasn't much else mentioned. Checked the R-M website a couple weeks ago and couldn't find anything there about it. Definately getting a few!
  22. I've gotten several pieces from them and from my experience I can say: Great stuff! Very styrene-like, crisp and clean. No problem with communications, if necessary. No major shipping delays. All in all a satisfying experience... what you would expect from someone offering parts/services for sale to the public. And the subject matter is right up my alley. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone interested in vintage drag racing.
  23. The one that nailed me was the original issue Revell Henry J. It was 1970-'71, I would have been 10 or 11, was with my mom at a Rexall drug store when that one stopped me cold. I had been around and "played with" my older brothers models, but none had the effect on me this one did. Must have been the way cool box art. I must confess to never having built it as we realised all the working features were over my 10-year-old head and picked up an easier first victim. I do have an unbuilt original issue in the stash for when the planets perfectly re-align...
  24. I remeber an incident during the MPC contest at the World of Wheels car show in Chicago in the early '70s. They were using those cafeteria-style tables with the legs that fold under at either end, about 8 feet long. Not sure what happend, but there were officials around it when one set of legs folded under on atable full of entries, creating a ramp sending everything sliding to the floor. About the only way I can describe the sound is to imagine a giant box of uncooked rice spilling onto a large plate-glass surface... and then silence. Not a pretty sight.
