Sorry for your loss. Ken -
Ha ha, forgot that was a picture with the broom. On the motorcycle forum I frequent they will ask you to put a picture of a broom with your bike. It's an old joke there, trying to make sure you didn't steal a pic from the net and post it as your bike. One of my friends was talking to a girl on the internet and said, send me a picture of you but I want it with you holding a broom. She said she didn't have a broom, he said weel then see if ya got a rake. Ken

Hi everyone, I've been away from the bench for about 5 months now. Just started back building this weekend. Boy does it feel good. Had some motorcycles that had to be taken care of, and this year included a partial resoration of my own. Besides family and a fulltime job, in the winter months I do Harley Davidson repair. Mostly antique/classic, this is usually finished by the time summer comes around but not this year. Got a lot of things I want to build and some unfinished project. Here's a pic of my bike. It's a 1972 FLH, known to many as an Electra Glide. Ken

The Fords of 1958
kenb replied to Greg Myers's topic in 1:1 Reference Photos: Auto Shows, Personal vehicles (Cars and Trucks)
There's a restaurant and brewery in Pigeon Forge Tenn that has a poster that looks just like that on the wall, but it's all Ford station wagons. There's a Mustang station wagon on it. I think it's a 65 model. A friend of mine said he thought there were 2 prototypes made by ford. I looked it up ,but all I could find was that ford did think of it but never persued it. I read that some indvidual built one or two. That would make a nice build. Got me thinking now. Ken -

Cult of ORIGINALITY! Show Us Your Style
kenb replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Sometimes when I'm at the bench I'll get athought in my head about some crazy build or a name for a build. Then I'll stop building and day dream for a while (sometimes for a long while). If it's something I might really want to build I'll jot down a description and a sketch. Sometimes this happens when I'm lying in bed with no tv or radio on. You can go into deep thought then. I have trouble building out of box models. I always have to include a lot of small add on real world details, including trash, dust, dirt, and rust. I think it's the little things on a well built and modified kit that make the difference. Ken -
New Ferrari Unveiled Today
kenb replied to Len Colombo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm not a Ferrari fan. In saying that I mean I don't lust over them as some do. I like the Dino cars and a few others. This one doesn't do anything for me. Maybe Bernard is right, you have to see it in the flesh to appreciate it. Ken -
I see a lot of engines here with very realistic fuel lines. I don't mean colored wire, I'm talking about clear and red transparent looking fuel lines that really look like hose. What are you guys using. Thanks. Ken

I feel that if you post a picture of your build you are open to opinion. I always ask for it when I post my work. I used to hang out at another popular forum that became so miserable that I left. I would post my aircraft and cars there. You had to be in their "clique" to get any kind of feedback. I would see aircraft that looked like my 5 yr old grandson built, and there would be 15 pages of how great it was and how wonderful a job. God help you if you said anything negative about the build. The guy posting it would have 25,000 posts under his belt and to them that meant he did everything great. I would list an aircraft that I spent a year on (an award winner) and maybe get a "not bad" with about 7 or 8 views. There were quite a few people who had the same feeling as I did and we got ripped up when we let our thoughts be known. Now I'm here, and things are a lot better, not perfect. But we don't live in a perfect world. I look forward to getting feedback on my builds, and if you as for critique I think you should accept it as it comes. All in all this is where I'm staying. A lot of talent here with great guys and a few nutcases thrown in. I want to thank everyone here for being helpful and being civilized. Ken

This is coming out real nice. It's good to see a classic being built stock. I almost always strip the kit chrome and alclad. I think it looks more to scale with the alclad finish. To me the chrome parts in the kit give a more toy like appearance. Keep up the great work. Ken

Hang in there Steve, I know what it's like. I had right knee surgery January 2011. Spent the whole recovery time building. Just had double hernia surgery 2 weeks ago. First week was hell, but now I'm building. Probably go back to work in a week or two. The older you get the harder it is, I don't know how much more I can take. Good luck with your recovery. Ken

I make sure that my clear parts fit right. Then I clean them real well and dip them in Future. After that I put them on a paper towel standing on edge as not to touch the viewing surface, this wicks the excess Future off. Then I cover it with a box lid or anything to keep dust and particles from settling on it. I don't go near it for 2 days. I've done it this way for years. Something brought down from my aircraft modeling days. Ken

Cruz, that Olds looks great. That's just what I'm after. Can I ask what primer you used. Ken

Very nice. When I build it I hope mine comes out half as good. Well done. Ken

Very nice. I take it that this is the Galaxy kit. I have that one on my list of vehicles to pick up. Ken

I'm thinking about getting started on one of my Revell 59 Cadillacs. I want to paint it white. After years of building models, gloss white is the color I dread most. I was wondering if you guys could tell me your techniques that have given good result. I will of course will do a test shot on a clunker. I'd like to know how you get it done from primer to finish with a nice smooth good cover finish. Thanks, Ken

NNL East. Just eight weeks to go.
kenb replied to Modlguy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Joe, a 2-1/2 hour drive isn't so bad. Get someone or a couple of guys to go with you. This way you'll have company and you could split up the cost. It's really worth it. Try and go. Ken -
There is one on ebay right now. Buy It Now $17.99. They don't show the box, but the listing is for a 429 Corvette so I would think they read that off the box. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1969-Corvette-429-Coupe-Revell-1-25-Scale-Kit-New-Box-Complete-Unstarted-/170785038964?_trksid=m263&_trkparms=algo%3DSIC%26its%3DI%26itu%3DUCI%252BIA%252BUA%252BFICS%252BUFI%26otn%3D35%26pmod%3D310367347199%26ps%3D50 Ken

Yep, that's the one. Was going to take some photos this morning but had a hard time getting out of bed. One week out of surgery and your supposed to feel better, Not today. Last night I stripped all the chrome off of the engine parts and sprayed them gloss black in prep for Alclad. Here are the pictures. Ken

That's awesome, love it! Ken

Going through my stash I came up with an AMT Amtronic. I remember buying it to build and hang from the ceiling with some other space junk and aircraft that hang there. Has anyone ever built this thing? There's a twin jet engine pack that powers the rear half and a single jet engine for the front. They both have transmissions and look very realistic. I snatched them out of the kit. Once built I don't think you can see them and mine is going to hang from the ceiling anyway. Tomorrow I will post a picture or two. The engines are small enough to look awesome as an alternate powerplant for a car. Similar to the Chrysler Turbine car. Was just curious if any of you guys ever saw this. Ken

my daily driver Dodge Caravan has a 3.8 V6. My 29 Essex street rod has a Mopar 318 V8, and my 72 Harley has a 74 cu in Shovelhead engine. Ken
