  1. This is real interesting. I have a built one of these that someone gave me. Needs to be redone. Getting some crazy ideas here. In one picture of the back of this car it almost looks like a Henry J. Real interesting. Ken
  2. Tom, I almost bought that Caprice with car trailer at HL. Was wondering if it was any good. Is the trailer worth getting the kit? are there any usable parts, or is the whole thing junk? I can get it for about 10 bucks with 40% off. Ken
  3. Lindberg 48' Lincoln Convertible without a doubt. Ken
  4. I was at a buddies house the other day, he does beatiful builds, cars only. I saw that he was using tube glue and asked him what liquid glue he uses. He said he didn't use liquid. I told him to get out of the stone age, he said he didn't care for liquid. His builds are fantastic, not glue bombs. I favor Tenax and hardly ever use tube. If I need something requiring tube I use super glue. Another friend who isn't a hobbiest but works with plastic said that Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK) is the same thing as liquid glue and that I was wasting my money buying those little bottles. Well I have a quart of MEK that I use to cut down some paints and tried it on plastic. He just may be right. Seemed to work just like Tenax. What do you use? Ken
  5. I fell in love with the Iwata line as well. i do have a Badger 360 that was and still is one of my go to airbrushes. Here's a good tip. If you go, or someone you know goes to Japan. Give them the model number of the Iwata you want and purchase it there. Less than half of what you would pay here. Here are mine........ Iwata Eclipse HP-CS Eclipse HPBCS Eclipse HP-CH Badger 360 Ken
  6. That's spooktacular. Real cool unque build. The color is awesome. Keep it coming. Ken
  7. Well, been slaving at the workbench. Trying to get the right look for this Cat 3406 Engine. Don't know if I did the right thing by hitting it with the flat finish. I lost a lot of the weathing after that. Might do a light wash and a little more dry brushing on it tomorrow. Will have to see how it looks in frame. Ken
  8. I asked around and some truckers told me that tractor supply sells caterpillar yellow. So I went there. They don't have caterpillar yellow, They have equipment yellow, traffic yellow and cub cadet yellow. This is cub cadet, I'm assuming they sell it to touch up the cadet lawn mowers they sell. The equipment yellow wasn't very bright, looked a little grayish if I remember right. The traffic yellow was what you would use for painting lines in the parking lot, very bright. The cub cadet yellow kind of had that caterpillar look. I decanted some of it through a straw into a jar and airbrushed straight as it was, no thinning. The paint brand is valspar. Dries very slow. I cooked it in the dehydrator over night, about 12 hrs and it still had a very heavy paint odor. Put it back for another 12 or so. It's fine now. A very convincing cat yellow. I'm happy with it. I have a build log for this truck in "on the workbench" listed as rat rig. Should be posting an update to it in a day or so. Ken
  9. Went to Hobby Lobby with the wife. She didn't get anything. Then I wipped out 2 of the 40% off coupons. She said "I should have known better". Got 1 built 62 Catalina from the one with the pink car on the box and another on the shelf. Didn't have this one. Nice tires and different interior. Much better, and a fantastic kit in my opinion. Had to get the 50 Chevy pickup. Plan to make a chariot back wrecker out of it. Both kits for about $32. Ken
  10. Another one I've got to watch. John, how is that Imex FLH model? Is the detail really good? I was thinking of getting one to model my 72 FLH. It's a lot cheaper than the discontinued Tamiya kit. Ken
  11. This is awesome. This place is great. Where else can you find so much talent. I'll be watching this for sure. Ken
  12. My workbench looks like a bomb went off on it tonight. Definitely have to do some tiding up. Been working on the rat rig engine. Ken
  13. An update on the build. Did some detail work on the engine. Added plumbing and cleaned up the seam lines. Then primed. After I was done I realized that I put the injector lines on the wrong place on the head. Oh well, Not gonna change that now. This is what happens when you don't print out your reference photos and go from memory. At least I got the firing order right. Ken
  14. This looks real cool. Keep up the progress reports. Ken
  15. That's a smart idea for posting pictures. looks very real. Nice job and good thinking. Ken
  16. I like it. I need to build something like that for a change of pace. Ken
  17. Sorry about the way some of the pictures are coming out. Using my old trusty Fuji S5000 and there must be something wrong with it. It's not trusty anymore. aoto focus just isn't working at times. will switch cameras for all future pics. Sat for a small session tonight and built the hairpins for the front end. Removed 2 pieces of frame section from the W900 that had rivet detail and made the hangers from that. Ken
  18. Well, din't care to much for that cab. Seemed just a bit too small. Got the cab from the 41 Chevy pickup. It's much better. I think if i had car tires and wheels on it the Orange crate cab would be ok. I had to cut up the rear panel and box it to clear the frame. Opened up the drivers door an cowl vent. I need a different grill. I'm thinking something like a farm tractor type grill, or a 34 ford grill just larger. I layed the 5th wheel on the back of the frame an kind of liked it. My original intentions were to build wrecker hoise for the rear. This is all being built out of my head as I go along. Any thoughts, ideas or criticism are welcome. This will probably be a lengthy build as I don't build fast, but i don't build slow, I build kinda half fast. so you'll have to bear with me. Ken
  19. This something that I posted in Workbench Saturdays!! A few veiwers there asked that I make a build log of this so here it is. I started this project a while ago, but it has yet to really be glued together so I took it apart as far as I could to get a good start. This is a combination of a Revell 41 Chevy pickup and a Revell W900 Kenworth first I cut the frame up and removed the front leaf springs and any riveted brackets, crossmembers, details, etc. I built a box frame and put the front leafs on the rear and added crossmember detail. I decided to go with coil springs in the front so I fabbed up some spring perches. I loosely assembled the cat engine to get an idea of what it will look like and cut the battery box steps down to a realistic size for what I'm doing. Had an Orange Crate cab and grill laying around and tried it on for size To be continued. Ken
  20. You got to watch this. CNC at it's finest. it's 2 min 32 sec long. Just watch it. Ken
  21. Wow Terry, that sounds like some collection you have there. Would really like to see some pictures, especially of the 66 Valiant. I was always an "A" body fan. Had plenty of them. Worked for Chrysler for 41 years. What I drive depends on the weather, here's my list........... Scott P1 Sportster: 18 speeds, hydraulic disc brakes, front suspension with remote lockout 1972 Harley Davidson FLH Electra Glide 1929 Essex 2 door sedan ratrod 318, 904 torqueflite, 9" ford rear, mustang II front end 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan Stow-n-Go loaded Ken
  22. That's awesome. And an early happy birthday to you. I need to subscribe myself. I've never seen this mag on a shelf before. The only place that I know of that sells it is 50 miles from me and when and if I do get there it's always sold out. They sell scaleauto in the books a million near me but not model cars. Ken
  23. Oops, it's Sunday. Been working on my rat rig. Trying to scrape up all the odds and ends parts for it. a lot of scratch here. Revell 41 Chevy pick up cab. Revell Kenworth W900 Cat engine and drive train. I've been working on the front suspension today. Going with coil springs. Just made the perches. Ken
  24. That's one great kit. You got that right as far as AMT having it together on this one. Yours is looking real nice. Think I'm going to pick up another one of these. Ken
  25. This is definitely not a rat rod. I'm looking at my rat that's sitting outside my window right now. He's got more money in wheels and tires than I have in my whole car. I'll buy it and build it, but it will get some modification. I can't seem to build something straight out of the box. Just hope that everyone isn't right about Revell slamming this kit together with current parts. Ken
