  1. You're welcome. I've been meaning to share these but kept forgetting. The pic of 3950 I just had to share because it's like a piece of history for truck modelers. The fleet pic I knew you guys would enjoy. As to the Watkins Motor Lines photo cd, well worth it. Full of project ideas. Great pix of the trailers showing the change in the graphics in the early 1970s when the eskimo was removed from the trailer. Also, you will see the change from the bare metal finish to the white trailers that happened during that period.
  2. A cool bit of reference material can be found at www.fatjacksplace.com They have a soft cover book or a CD with 100 or more photos of nothing but Watkins trucks from the 1950s to the early 1980s. Great photos and project ideas. The CD is about $20 while the book is $60. They have quite a few photo collections focusing on individual carriers or types of trucks(i.e. livestock haulers)
  3. Here is the truck that inspired amt's kit, unit 3950 just like the kit's decal sheet. There are subtle differences from the kit. Painted 1/4 fenders, steel 5 hole wheels on the drives, single exhaust stack, running lights on the hood just behind the grile and above the headlights, roof mounted air conditioner, battery/tool boxes on both sides, red frame. Notice that Watkins was a big user of Great Dane reefers. They did use Fruehaufs like the kit, but with the reefer unit like the one in the Ertl Great Dane kit.
  4. Nice work. I've seen the restored truck and trailer in person at the 2008 ATHS annual convention. I should still have the pix I took if you would like them. Also, I downloaded the photo from the owner's website that had the measurements for the trailer as well if needed.I have to find that one. If I still have it I will share it. It's a 1960 Trailmobile asphalt tanker.
  5. Very nice. I love the second generation Camaros.
  6. I'm lovin' that paintjob.
  7. Great job on this build. The weathering is very realistic.
  8. Nice repair ob. I always liked the stripe decals in that kit.
  9. This turned out really nice.
  10. This came out nice.
  11. That is an absolutely outstanding build!
  12. That's pretty sweet. A nice, classic truck.
  13. Back in 1991 I built my first truck and trailer. It was the amt/ERTL Mack R that was reissued in July of that year. I was truly excited for this kit as the R Model Mack was my childhood favorite along with the KW W900. Growing up in NYC and other east coast cities I saw plenty of them in all types of service. I picked it up as soon as it hit the stores. I liked that reissue of the kit as it came with spoke wheels and square tanks. The truck on the box was red. I built the amt/ERTL Amoco tanker trailer to go with it because I always liked the look of an R Model with a tanker. I still have it and it's been restored twice due to at least 8 moves. This is one I will always keep.
  14. My recently restored Mack R and Fruehauf tanker.
  15. Great work on the paintjob.
  16. Outstanding work! I like the fact that you built a truck that only makes a brief appearance in the movie rather than one of the "main characters" so to speak. You definitely captured it.
  17. That was literally my first thought. lol
