Oster Dehydrator with a twist
Smart-Resins replied to Longbow's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You know, I have done electric wireing and never gave a fan or dimmer switch a thought! LOL. Cool. Thanks. Now my questions answered on how I will regulate that! Now just to find a thermometer as I dont think we even have one for meat? We do the fork test. LOL. Jody -
Oster Dehydrator with a twist
Smart-Resins replied to Longbow's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
WOW, that thing is like $20 more then I spent on the dehydrator including shipping! LOL. The concept of too much heat, if you will be leaving the model in there is that it could warp the model body. Since I use laquar I will be wanting to leave mine in there longer for it to gas out properly before I do the next layers of paint. Thus why I am so concerned. I do not want to go painting a body for someone else and be half done and find the body in the morning warped Jody -
Oster Dehydrator with a twist
Smart-Resins replied to Longbow's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
No your not! I wanted to know what the difference was between this supposed oyster dehydrator and my Ronco I just puchased! LOL. Now I have a simular problem. My Ronco is a convection style dehydrator, so I do not know what tempurature it runs at? I have been told not to run them over 110 degrees. I can turn the lid on my from smaller holes to larger holes to let more air out. Downfall is my instructions tell me nothing about these or how to use them! No wheres can I tell what temp this thing runs at and no I do not have a neet little thermometer like that one! LOL. I will be doing a spoon test for 24 hours here soon before I put a body in it! That I can tell you! LOL. Jody -
Hardcore Scratchbuilding Question
Smart-Resins replied to straightliner1's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Andy, I love that chassis, I have a chopped t body from Jimmy I keep rethinking the design to since I like it. I love your chassis work. I finially got me a weller station, so ill be delving back into the realm of brass again! I got nice big order so I wont be running out any time soon. The point is I absolutly love that front V axle. I had actually forgotten about those. I may contemplate that idea. However, I really want to set my standards high on the 53 and I really want to finish it! Not6hing else that I am planning durring it other then getting some more masters in rubber and casted up. Thanks. Jody -
Well, in the one shot you see my little beast I had for a few years, the dodge Omni. That was a fun little car. Next to the 53, it sure was tiny. That 53 was a big ole girl, but was certainly a blast with the three on the tree and all. We just kept having carby problems. I dont know how many carb rebuilds we got for it! Now ya can get actual new carbs for it! Back then without common internet we couldnt find any! LOL. Oh well. Ill never forget that big ole girl! Jody

Alright, some pics! First, a pic of the model I am using, then some pics of my old girl I used to have. A project my father got so we could work on a car together. Never did! We had bought it for $500 and drove it half way home before the carb gummed up! Was surprised. I looked rough on the outside in the pics, but it really wasnt. It had few miles on it. It was a barn find that someone had gotten and put it into another barn where we found it. It sure was impossible to get all of the maskign tape off of the chrome and it was all pitted! too bad too! The interior was mohair and was still under factory plastic if that helps you figure out how little the car had actually been driven! I dont remember how many for sure any more, but I know it was only a couple of thousand. Sure wish I still had it today. But it was in dads name and when I went into the service, he sold this, my motorcycle, my star wars collection and my hot wheels collection. some pains there I have never been able to get over! Of course I think the deepest was my father never having the interest to work on it with me, it was Mas idea! her father and brother grew up around cars, so anything cars was her idea. God bless her heart! it was all foolish to him and just more to waiste your time and money on! Oh well. Anyways.... enough about me! here is the crude beginning of the aluminum tube chassis as well! Jody
-
Ah yes! Smell the gas and the rubber! Now, I have removed the fuel tank from the chassis. Just debating how yucky the stock chassis is and thinking, soldering gun, brass? Or no? A nice tube chassis would be cool and would still have been something raced in the 60's? although I was driving mine in the late 80's! LOL. A Googeling I will go! A Googeling I will go! A Googeling I will go! HEHEHE. Wich of course, if I do go that route, then I just waisted a minute removing the fuel tank. LOL. Jody
-
Well, to be honest, Im kinda debating wether to dress up the kit motor and use tall injectors sticking through a open tear drop hood, or a nice hemi set up the same way? Also trying to decide, regular hood, or flip front clip? Jody

Alright, time for me to take a break from stress and demand and do a fun and relaxing build for myself and be able to try out some of my new toys like my dehydrator, my soldering station, maybe even the old PE machine I finially busted out and many more toys taboot! I used to own a 53 Bel air growing up, so this car is special to me. I will be building what if I had kept it, had the money and time to have finished it!Since I am starting out with the new Model King gasser version, I have a nice starting point. But man the frame seems flimsy! LOL. I have not decided on power plant for sure yet? But I have decided on the white walls and pie crust slicks! Paint I am not possative on, but orange and white is sounding good to me! Since the kit lends itself to opening doors and trunk, I think I will! But I also think Ill make my own hinges for it! I do plan on doing some aluminum work inside and BMF out side. I really dont care how long this takes as I will be doing several things to enhance my skills as I go. it will be done one step at a time and I dont care! I am feeling stressed and about ready to cave in to builders block and I cant let that happen as thats the only sanity I have here! LOL. So stay tuned. Pics will come as I can since my camera no longer works on my system with the new windows, so I have to beg and barrow time of the wifeys computer to upload them! Thanks. Jody

Bluesmark, yes indeed I did read that as I read the thread in its entirety. Problem being, I either scrqape too much, or it comes out uneven or I cut myself. I figure Dave will add more as many do. It seems like many people when they see a how too, they wnat everything right there in one single post and they do not seem to realize that some people do a working how to! I enjoy those the most because you get to "watch" it! As for me getting all worked up, that is a mere assumption for I am not worked up nor stressed out merely stateing my opinions to those who love to taint good threads! Thanks. Jody
-
You know, I will throw my rant in here since it looks like some lower class peolpe stole and killed the thread already. someone is willing to take the time to do a how to for other modelers that dont know how to do it. so obviously Dave knows how to do this, or he would not do the how too! So theres the proof! For the chroming, he has said several times over what the stuff is called. Are some people so unintelligent that they can not google the stuff? My God people get of your high bussom and wipe your nose so that the brown stuff is not oozing out and get a real life. He has done how to's and articles and has won awards IIRC. So what the heck is the problem? Am I jelious(spelling?) of him. Heck ya. Did I belittle him and call him names for it. NO! I am very possative there are things I can do better then he can! We are each our own individual selves. The only difference is there are some lacking maturity and the lame brainless rants in this partcular threads and hundreds of others on here show who those people are and what I will label as morans are! I have some leather, but it is way to thick for this type of stuff. I want to learn here. Not read some inmature defication about someone else. I want to learn what leather to look for and how to use it. That is what mag articles are for. That is what forums are for. That is what how to's are for. That is what books are for. That is what videos are for, to help enhance the modeling world for those who desire to raise thier skill levels. Those who want to sit on thier rump and be a pile of defication, please at least learn the meaning of respect for others and do it on your own time in your own world where no one else needs to smell your reak of imaturity! I want to see this leather tutorial! Thank you. Now I return the decent poeple to thier regularly scheduled program and demand the others to go to a time out for the duration of my member ship! Thank you and God bless! Jody

Ideas for underhood insulation??
Smart-Resins replied to Modlbldr's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
actually, on that aluminum tape, I have found it much easier to apply it, burnish like BMF then trim it. Jody -
Ideas for underhood insulation??
Smart-Resins replied to Modlbldr's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I have heard of using TP, as well as masking tape painted black. I also know I have seen Flocking. Some of these other ideas are cool! I do not know pattern sizing on that black insulation from model cargarage, but it reminds me of the material you will find under most couches and chairs. If ya have a old one lying around? Maybe even find some in the craft section and buy a yard and use it for klike ever? I will have to check into this! Jody -
I would not recomend that at all! A couple quick tips. I do not know how you apply your future or with what? I use my airbrush and spray it on, straight shot not thinned, at about 30lbs from 6-8 inches away almost full bore and I keep my gun moving! Now thata all certainly personal preference. Now, some of the more nit and gritty. I use decal set to set the decals. let it sit 24 hours. If you have cleared the model then done the decals, the decal set will fog up the future, but in all of my experiences thus far, the next coat of future you use, it will clear up that fog. Now yes, indeed sometimes that old decal will try to leave a white film around the edges. What you can do if you are perfect at setting decals in a hurry without haveing to move any of them, spray the body then set the decals. This is only what I have heard. To me, that sounds like a mission impossible feature, so I refuse to try that! LOL. Thats why I stick to what I do! LOL. I hope you find your method. I am sure there are several more here that can chime in with thier tips and tricks! I will also push in here, yes you can polish future! Many say no you can not. But that depends on what you call polishing? I always no matter how hard I try, get at least one dust particle in the best of coats. So once it has cured 24 hours, I will sand with micro mesh 6,000 grit, then 8,000 grit and finish with the 12,000 grit. When done, I will breathe on the model and polish it using a soft cotton sheet. Do this and you will get that terrific sheen! I have not found a paiste yet that wont mess with the future, so my suggestion, dont even try unless someone has a true fire one they have found? Jody

Aluminum Fenton Wheels
Smart-Resins replied to ratnasty's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
One would also have to mill them! That would cost far more I am sure then it would cost to buy either resin or PE nuts and bolts! I got a set from detail master through scale detail, and waiting on some resin ones from Mas resins once I get my order. Thanks. Jody -
Quick question, do you display the model with the box art? Jody

Smart-Resins replied to Mooneyzs's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Yes, I know that. However, my settings on the forum, is to not show the avatars etc as I dont like to see lines over and ovver and over again sometimes like when someone postes say 8 times in a row! LOL. I asume you must have either a moon eyes avatar or hot wheels avatar? Thank you for letting me know that this is a hot wheels truck! I knoew thay had some of Toms design, but did not know of this one or any new ones! Thank you! Now I return you back to the regular scheduled program Jody -
