Well, actuall building I spend only a few hours a week. Researching, that depends. If it is researching current builds or builds waiting to get started in the near future, only about 2 or 3 hours a week. Researching as in day dreaming of way off in the future builds, that may be a few more hours a week. I spend the most of my time in the hobby online on forums.I spend a hour or two at least a day.Combined internet time a day is usually 3 to 4 hours a day. Maybe that is a hobby within a hobby?? Or maybe I just use my hobby as the excuse for the other hobby??

My camera is broken, so I cant take a picture of my stuff.Sorry.If you look around on line for the Revell kit, you may be able to figure out what I am talking about. -
1/16 torq thrust wheels
Smart-Resins replied to drummertom's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The closest thing to torq thrusts I can think of in 1/16 is what comes with the mustang kit. If thats what you are looking for, then maybe I can help you. -
I will be interested in seeing how you re-spoke the rims.I have 2 pair of harley rims I am re-spoking now using pins and drilling out the holes.I do have 2 pair of the tiger rims, so I can try a different method on one and if I mess up, still have a pair to use for my build.

That is a very good start there!.I have one of them on my bench.Trying to figure out wether to keep it a single engine, or go all out and make it a double engine drag bike since I gots me a extra mill.

I am hoping to get her the cop out kit for Christmas!

A little RTV mold making problem
Smart-Resins replied to Bigjeepzz's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ouch. That just is not cool!! On my budget, that is half a years worth of rubber!! I know I had a simular situation where I used clay around the base of a mold box and was quite aparent that it was not a good enough seal.Fortunately, it was only a few oz. of rubber.Good luck.I am sure the making right with the spouse may have become the expense in this situation.LOL. -
Nice start to a reat build.Love it!!

It is a little tricky on tires depending on size, height of sidewall, tread detail ect. Some seam to be able to do part molds and get away with it. I tried a 2 part mold and ripped the mold the first time trying to get the tire out of it. # part mold is much easier to pull apart, but harder to accomplish. Need to tape off the inside of the tire using some good tape. Then pour some rubber up halfwar on the outside.Once cured, carefully pull your tape off from inside and clean without disturbing your seal on the first part of the mold. Then pour some rubber into the cavity of the tire up to the side wall. Once that is cured, then finish pouring the rest of your mold.Keep a couple of things in mind. Make sure the tire is clean before starting!!You want to place your fill tube in a inconspicuos spot(I prefer into the inside of the tire, or another way is to have a cross piece from one side of the side wall to another that you can cut out later) Another thing is it pours better if you also have a tube for air to escape out of, get much better detail that way I think. Make sure you use a good mold release, or once the mold is done and you go to pull it apart, you may have difficulties.LOL. Wont say how I know that one. I have not tried it yet, but Discroll Ultra 3 and 4 paintable mold release is supposed to be eccelant stuff. Also when you cast the tire dont forget to warm your mold first and talc it to help any air bubbles to escape or disapate.Hope this helps. Again if at first you dont exeed, try try again. The best way to learn is to keep trying till you find a method that works for YOU!! Hope you have fun!

Looking good so far!!Cant wait to see body on....... -
Dave, they said that he and a friend went to one in Fairport, then to a regular show in Geneseo. They bought some parts in Fairport, but took no cars.Guess he has the jugs out of the bradly, wire problems with the great ape and the super beetle is getting restored.LOL. Anyways, a large show for him must be getting smaller since he broke his hip a couple of years back and then grandma died.Oh well.
-
Well, that may be why the choppers today have the front wheel a mile infront of the bike instead of the bike being a mile high in the front.LOL. Besides, I be a tad bit big to ride this one.

Dave, I have never jeen a jeepster like that before. That must be one rare bird indeed!! I dont think in my grandfathers condition he would have gone that far as he rarley even ever gets out of the house. I will have to ask my parents and find out if they know for sure. As far as plaid goes, I have seen where ford did that pattern on some valve covers on a old Pickup truck for some reason!! Anyways...........

Smart-Resins replied to Len Geisler's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The model shelf as been slowley getting smaller and smaller. However last week when we went, they moved them and gave them 1/3 of a row!!!! I could not believe it, the most I have ever seen at any department store!! -
Hey Dave, nice Metro!! Is that a Unimog as well?? My grandfather has two Metro's. One black n white.....Black Bart and the other is yellow n white.... Dolly. Dolly has won him several plaques. He just went to a big VW show up there what, last week?? I dont know if he took the super beetle, the "Grape Ape" or the bradley GT kit car though.Anyways, nice job on the bug!! Keep it up. Love your Buggy too!!

I picked this old complete 1/8 freedom chopper on Evilbay for $26 with shipping!! My first chance at a Harley chopper big style. I started by cutting off the goofy gooseneck and creating my own with less rake. Then I cut off the tank and filled in the top bar and around the gooseneck. I then took the old forks and combined them with brass tubing to lengthen them. This now sits higher in the front. I took a old wiper blade metal band and twisted it with a drill to make a new custom sissy bar and handlebars. It will be painted Dupli-color bright white blue with Dupli-color Clear Effex over it. The seat will be painted brown leather. I also grabbed a parts bin headlight for it. Hope to have this one done soon.
