First off, MERRY CHRISTMAS everybody!!! I bought 50 plus kits this year. 20 or so resin bodies. As of last night I've completed 31. I've restored 3 that I built in the 1967-68 time frame. And If I finish some very minor detailing I'll complete 5 or 6 more before 2012. That's not to mention the 6 in progress. And when I get around to taking pictures and doing what I need to post them, you'll see them. This is my first full year of retirement. The drag car has been parked do to family reasons, so all I do is work on model cars and model trains. Aaron Dupont

1/25 Moebius Tim Flock Hudson Hornet
aarondupont replied to MicroNitro's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Mine arrived yesterday right after my posting. I did not compare it with the stock version yet. But it is nice. Two grills that I noticed. I did not open the decals as I do not know when it will fit into the project flow. I'm hoping Moebuis will tool up some more older never done cars in the future. If we purchase, that will encourage them! The Hudson has gotten a lot of press so far. I;m sure the Chrysler will e great too! Aaron Dupont -

I'm waiting for mine to arrive. It's in the mail. Can't wait! Aaron Dupont -
Hi all: I got to jump in here. I've always admired Jesse James. Until his dumb move when married to Sandra Bullak. But he has a history of bad relationships. But that aside, I watched the build off show. Sr's contraption was slick! But not a bike in MY opinion. Great build and condept. Jr's bike was outstanding! Great concept. Great craftsmanship. I voted for Jr. BUT... if I could own any of the bikes, it would be Jesse's. It is a rider! I love the old chopper style. What gets lost is the majority of the bikes that Jr and Sr build are for show. If you watched Jesse's program, he built bikes for people to ride. Just my opinion. Aaron Dupont

If I'm not mistaken, all the hoods on the Stone, Woods & Cooke cars were lift off. Google Stone Woods & Cooke. You'll get pictures. Aaron Dupont -

Anyone know about Speed City?
aarondupont replied to Kaleb's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Speed City is an excellent source for resin A/FX bodies. Scott also sells various parts (mag wheels, slicks, engine parts), all HIGH quality. I have five of his kits. I've built the Long Nose Dart. His resin bodies are very close to injection molded styrene. In fact I helped him with the "Snoopy" Jaguar A/FX body. Quick service. GREAT communication. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Aaron Dupont -
Jim: Give the wall a salute for me! I've not been there yet. Will make it one day. I have seen the traveling wall. It was very very hard to see it! It was a rainy NOV night about 11:30 PM. I was all alone and crying like a baby. I felt an arm go around my should. Then I heard the words "Welcome Home Brother". I'm in tears now typing this. I'll be attending a Veteran's ceremony at my grandaughters elementary school. It's very touching! Have a happy and safe Veterans day to all who have served and are currently serving! And never forget the brothers we have lost! Aaron Dupont USPS/USN RET

PAINT CONFESSIONAL
aarondupont replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hey "Cranky One": I do primarily drag race cars. Nostalgia cars are my favorite, gassers, rails, SS etc. I subscribe to Hot Rod Deluxe, Car Kulture Deluxe, Old School Rodz, and a few others. These give me inspiration. I also have a large library of automotive books. And of course car shows and nostalgia drag races also inspire me. Sometimes I'll start a project and let the build dictate the color/colors. I try not to wear out a color. Although a certain silver metallic color kept me busy for awhile. I've had to hide the color from myself. Today I spent 30 minutes at Hobby Lobby looking at (and buying some) Wicked colors and the Creative brand. They have super nice pearls, transparents and such. Last night I started a 51 Willys gasser project. Somehow I pictured it as orange. This morning I was watching "My Ride Rules" on Speed. A fellow had a tangerine orange pearl impala. That's the color I bought today for the Willys. Hoped that helped! Aaron Dupont -
British tri chev gassers - anyone interested?
aarondupont replied to Andrew's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Count me in! I'd like to see decals for these cars. I especially like the "Green Onions" 55 Chev. Aaron Dupont -
Dale: Welcome! You'll like it here. I forgot about the Group "W" bench. I help clear you a spot. Aaron Dupont

There was a large gasser in the mid to late 60's in Ohio. It was a 50 Packard (year may be wrong). Big slab sided gasser. I do not recall the engine. Later on he ran a Lark gasser. He had the Packard and Lark at the Gasser Nationals in 2010 at Norwalk, Oh. If I could every learn how to post photos from my computer, I'd post the photos from Norwalk. Too much technology for my 60 year old brain! Aaron Dupont

I got my newsletter from Model Roundup today. He is taking pre-orders for the Tim Flock Hudson from Moebuis/Hobby King. Only 3000 will be produced. Hobby King said he is already sold out. So get your pre-orders in ASAP. The kit is due out in November. Aaron Dupont

Harbor Freight Airbrush?
aarondupont replied to SuperStockAndy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Andy: I'd go with the inexpensive Harbor Freight one. Cheap to start with. Get the feel of it. Experiment with it. In the mean time, save up your money for a GOOD airbrush. I actually use my single action Paasche 95% of the time. I have double action like Dr. Crankey's. (brand name escapes me). I use for detail work and weathering. The Paasche single action is simple to use and easy clean-up! My thoughts. Aaron Dupont -
Mine came the other day. It's toward the top of my build stack! Most likely a "gasser". Contemplating radiused rear wheel wells. But it could look good leaving them be and raise it up some. Not sure yet if I'll put a straight front axle on it, or jack up front suspension. Also thinking of injected Buick Nailhead motor. Aaron Dupont

A Boyd Cottington kit?
-
Hey Cranky: I was born in 1950. The first fads I remember in the late 50's were continental kits, fender skirts (bubble, long & short), fox tails on antennas, dual antennas on rear fenders (slanted backwards), single antenna in center of trunk lid (of course slanted back), Spinner hub caps, fill chromed moons, wide whites, louvered hoods & glass pack mufflers. In the 60's when I started driving, long rear shackles to raise rear end, raised front springs with screw in blocks or spreader clamps, mag wheels (especially Cragars & Keystones), headers, straight pipes, the tassel from your graduation hanging from your rear view mirror along with the garter from the girl you took to the prom. Thats enough for now. I'll pick up with the 70's and 80's later. I grew up in a suburb of Cleveland Ohio. Aaron Dupont

Roger your last! I know sometimes when I've had enough, I go to the reply box and punch away. It's usually long in content. When I'm done punching it in, I reread what I've punched in. Most times I delete it. Or at least the not so nice parts. Easy to do? No. Smart, yes! We're all here for fun and sharing of ideas and models. Remember, it's easier not to say anything, then to regret it later! Aaron Dupont

Krylon Glitter Spray Paint
aarondupont replied to aarondupont's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm getting ready to go down to my bench right now. I'll check out the flake size again. The red may be a little large. But the texture did not seen to thick. But I misted it on. The spray is really heavy. The multi-colored flake seemed smaller in size. But I remember painting 1 to 1 cars with large flake in the late 60's. The flake was giant! It used to take about 20 or 30 coats of clear to cover the flake smoothly. That's why when you see an old flake job that is coming off due to bad prep, it's about 1/16th thick. I'll keep you posted. Aaron Dupont -
Hey all: Maybe you are aware of this stuff. But today at Hobby Lobby I found this Krylon Glitter Spray. It is clear with fine glitter in it. Like the Dupli-color Glitter Effects spray. I bought two cans, #403 Resplendant red and #405 Magical Multicolor. The first one is red flakes. It came out great over a red base. The multicolor flakes I sprayed over Dupli-color Mystify Purple-green-blue color change. The effect of the multicolor flakes is outstanding. The spray nozzles spray too fast. I will try a nozzle from a Testors can later. Or you could decant it to spray with an airbrush. At $4.99 a can it was worth the try. It's also available with silver or gold flakes. Aaron Dupont

AMT's '51 Studebaker Coupe - Who Knew?
aarondupont replied to Casey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
AMT stood for Aluminum Metal Toys if I remember correctly. The late 50's they went into injection molded plastics. They made cars like the promos. I had a few as a kid. Sure wish I still had them. As the quality on promos advanced, those became "just old toys". Most had the friction motor on a metal frame with those heavy steel axles. No interiors and not all had glass windshields and back glass. I remember having a white 53 or 54 Pontiac two door. No interior or glass. The others are gone from my memory. Aaron Dupont
