Don'tcha just hate it when.............
Lunajammer replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Heck yeah. That's why I've got such an awesome parts box that I've inherited from the modeling elders over the years... because I'm too chicken to risk using "one chance only" parts. Sort of a hoarding mentality. The part's too precious to actually USE. What if I botch it? I'm sure there are studies. -
I approve. Nice choice of wheels. I just love this kit. Not too many sedans look sexy but this would be one. Almost any muscle wheel looks good on this.

Never before had I noticed or even connected the resemblance to the '65/'66 Ford Galaxy, but I sure see it in this photo. Nice work.

A question about rules
Lunajammer replied to oldscool's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think everybody is entitled to an opinion, then step aside and allow/respect a rebuttal. Point, counter-point. The end. The dramas I see unfold is when the criticizer can't respect or let go of the response. -
I've always liked this kit Dave and you gave it a real crisp and clean build.

'34 Ford shop truck
Lunajammer replied to Jantrix's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Yup. Nice job Rob. Everything worked out real well. -
I don't know how far your plan will go for this but I built one box stock some years ago and my favorite part was the engine it came with... at least how it views from the top. Maybe not ideal for strip running but factory stock was great.

Count me in. I like this a lot.

How safe is your driving?
Lunajammer replied to Custom Hearse's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I know what you mean H, but what if there's congestion and gridlock. You still want to merge going 55? Also if I'm driving a Pinto (again) and trying to merge 55 into a pack of Mario Andrettis... well, I don't have to tell you how that would end up. (That's hypothetical that a Pinto even could go over 55) Sincerely, 95-percent. -
What is the best putty
Lunajammer replied to car lover 1996's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There is one slight advantage to using the one part version of this product. You can thin it with lacquer thinner to create a brushable primer of whatever thickness or thinness you like. I'll do that sometimes to smooth and sand an area over choppy putty before spray priming. You might guess though, this method doesn't do too well on bare plastic. Clean brush with lacquer thinner. -
I'm Thrilled that you're showing the underside. My custom 39 project came to a halt years ago because I didn't know how I wanted to deal with the one piece floor/chassis. You've given me some ideas. Plus this is a pretty cool build to follow.

John, I'm not threatened by your build. Flaws and all, I love what you're doing and have enjoyed watching all of it develop. As far as I'm concerned all the personality posts could be deleted. I'll enjoy seeing the next posts of your model.

Purple Power - How long should it soak?
Lunajammer replied to seeker589's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If I may quote a Monkee, "I'm a believer." All this talk of "purple pond" made me go out and buy some and just SEE if it lives up to the hype and whether it dares be compared to the success of my tried and true brake fluid. Whadda ya know, it's awesome. Brake fluid does the same job but it dries the plastic and makes it brittle and your parts often separate at unpredictable places because of plastic breakage. Purple made quick work of my chrome and 30-year old sprayed enamel and I see no sign of harm to the plastic. Once you go purple you never go... burple... or something.... never mind. -
Have a question...
Lunajammer replied to thesnake87's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hobbies and interests on a resume is pretty low on the page. It merely rounds out the insights into who you are and what you know, not just for the reasons already listed but you never know when an employer might respond to or associate with that interest and consider you a man of "like mind" and "good for the team." Definitely list it. -
A former girlfriend (10 yrs ago) was embarrassed for me that I built models. Getting two articles published in the other mags didn't change her mind any and out of concern for me recommended I not tell any future girlfriends. We departed amicably. I don't spread it around that I build models, it's my quiet pleasure. But the current (and long time) girlfriend has a growing interest as I've returned to the hobby, likes my work and wants to accompany me to a show once she found out what IPMS was.

That's my sentimental favorite Jairus. It was my very first Hot Wheels back in '68. I still have it and it's not lost, but the surf boards were absorbed by the toy box about 1973. A slightly chipped but decent and the wheels are straight. Since mine was green I look forward to your project.

Bill you don't know how you've answered a burning question I've had for decades. I've always called this car the Dexter Mobile and for half a lifetime I couldn't remember where I got that from. I still call it that. Now I know. Thanks for the great throw-back.

Mississippi Resins- NOW OPEN!!
Lunajammer replied to Mr. Moparman's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Brandon I commend your effort. You've listened to some hard but truthful comments like a professional. If I were you, I'd start selling my early, lower quality castings locally; clubs, friends, shows, etc. The buyer gets to see first hand what they are buying and you get to negotiate a price that is satisfactory to both. You start squirreling away the money you need to improve your set up, then start selling from a distance. I'd be furious if bought one of your offerings and important details are gone due to air bubbles. It's sort of taking advantage of their trust in you so you can make money. However, you'd be surprised how forgiving people will be of your castings if they just get to hold it in their hands before deciding what it's worth to them. -
What Makes a Good Resin Caster
Lunajammer replied to Mr. Moparman's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Personally, I think a vacuum chamber is a must. That's what gets out the trouble bubbles at every step. Then move it to a pressure pot to crush the remaining little bitty bubbles into nothing while the resin hardens. It gives me perfect results fairly consistently except when I'm not paying attention. I don't sell anything with a noticeable air bubble in it and I think that should be the standard and with a little practice it's not that hard either. If that's not your standard you'll develop a reputation of being just another cellar hobbyist with big claims (of whom there are many). But you sound pretty motivated and conscientious, those are good tools to have. I think you'll enjoy it. -
Excellent and so authentic. Well done.
