Turbos, what turbos? We don't need no stinkin' turbos. This engine is spectacular in it's own right already. Nice work Francis! cheers, tim -
Randy..........DROOL.............SLOBBER............well, you get the idea. Beautiful as always. cheers, tim
-
You're correct Claude. Mine look like new/factory fresh if you will from the day. Here's a pic of one fresh from manufacture back in the day. I think this will help you. Cheers, tim

Many thanks EVERYONE for the comments!! I'm well into the assembly finally and thankfully. They're challenging lets just say. I think by next week both will be completed and I'll be onto the manifold. Cheers, Tim For Claude's question about the coloration. I have that magazine cover. It was shot that way by the photographer for whatever reason. Seems the hot rod mags were "experimenting" a lot in those days and thought it looked cool I suppose. The accelerator pump plates and some of the fuel bowls have that "zinc" tint to them in some of the pics I've seen. Maybe those parts were cast separately in a different metal/alloy. I know they're cast aluminum but I've seen them polished too. The pic I'm sharing is of the real deal in natural lighting. You can just make out the tint I'm speaking of.

Boy does that pop in the sun. Nice save on the hood. Odd what happened to the 1st one. Cheers, tim

Nice update Joe. I continue to check on your progress and your approach to things. Most helpful indeed. Cheers, Tim

I finished machining the fuel bowls. I've got 8 parts to put on each to finish them but I wanted to do a quick mock-up to see where I'm at. 5 picks, nothing is permanently attached as of these pics. I have to make some small bits and pieces (tubing etc.) and a simple jig to line each carb up for the assembly. Moving along though and I'm happy with em'. When completely detailed, they should be worthy of the engine. Cheers, Tim The 2 small pieces in the foreground of the pics are the fuel bowls machined in steel. The contrast on the carbs of the fuel bowls and acc. pump bodies should add a nice complement to them. cheers, tim accelerator pump side of the carb fuel bowl side of the carb

Too funny Dave.......isn't that always the case. I did get a pair done & early next week I'll show all four with the bits and pieces attached. They're looking pretty good and they're fitting up perfectly to the main bodies of the carbs very well. soooo close. cheers, tim

I really like the paint like everyone else but that mock-up with the wheels/tires under it.............well, when you get a bit bogged down or need a pick-me-up, find that pic and I'm sure you'll be right back at it. It's going to be a stunning build. cheers, tim

Thank you Ray, Brad, Dave, Francis, Art, Chris & Joe!!! I thought I'd have the first fuel bowl to share yesterday but I got the first one made (turned out well too I thought) and while finishing cleaning it up........b-i-n-g! my dremel caught it and sent it flying never to be seen again. It was one of those teeny parts that I would never admit how much time/effort went into it. It's somewhere on the floor mocking me along with the other lost parts I've made over the years. Saturday I'm determined to get 1 if not 2 done and then have some pics to share. Gotta make 4 of them too. Cheers fellas!

Those are all beautiful Noel. You have every reason to be proud of each and every one. Cheers, Tim

I've been away too long and had 5 pages to get caught up on Steve. Truly enjoyed the progress you made in that time. This is going to be an absolutely gorgeous build when it's finished. Cheers, Tim

I had a good chuckle Bruce when I read your comment about putting the MFH Porsche aside for now "intense"......then I see what you're doing here with the Cobra. To think that you think THIS isn't intense...........shaking my head. I like what you've done already but this kit looks as challenging as any. Cheers, Tim

Well, if Marks building it, I'm following. The C5 was never my favorite vette, but this is certainly no C5. Great looking lines and details already Mark. You've proven to be quite the craftsman no matter what the scale or subject. Cheers, Tim

Tag, you're it Joe.......... ?

Wonderful to see how you''re approaching this project Roger. Well thought out for sure. I'll certainly follow along as well. Cheers, Tim

Dave & Joe......thanks for checking in. Longest break from the bench since I took up modeling again. That "life" thing..........This week I did get the 4 accelerator pumps done and finally I have the fuel bowls to do. In total , each carb will comprise 61 parts (122 total) give or take a few parts. The pump is comprised of the machined plates (I did those in steel) and the round portion you see with the twin flanges in the center started as R.B. Motion rivets. I decked each, cut a groove down the middle (.010") and then cut the sides of each. I made extras as I know I'm going to drop and lose some during assembly. The last pic is of the fuel bowls that will comprise 7 parts each. Making these last 2 components of the carbs has been as challenging as the oil pump I made earlier for this engine. fyi, the length of the acc. pump plate itself is less than 4.0mm. I can't wait now to get these done so I can try out my ideas for the manifold. Cheers fellas, Tim The pump bases need a little clean-up on the edges yet...........thought I got it all, apparently not. Taking pics of these tiny parts is difficult.......I've included 3 pics of them in total even though they seem redundant.....some of the parts are in better focus 1 pic versus another....... The fuel bowls that will be on deck.

Twice as much fun Francis. I finally sat down to check out the forum for the first time in a bit and wanted to see how your pick-up was coming along..........and of course, saw this build too. NICE to say the least. Had a smile after seeing how you did a few things (thanks for sharing and some ideas I got from them). Kudos sir. Cheers, Tim -
MFH Porsche 917-43 hippie
Codi replied to Chris Smith's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
btw, I must correct myself Chris, it is obviously chassis number 43 not 21 as I noted earlier. Chassis 21 was not a long tail even though it had the Hippie livery. The 43 being your long tail (the prettier of the 2 IMO). The engine shots you have on this page of your thread show the coloration of the injector & fan shroud I was referring to. Unpainted fiberglass by the factory and the resin in the glass gives it that shade/coloration I believe. Hope this helps. It REALLY is looking great. You've made tremendous progress! cheers, tim -
I had to share this. Just made the record on Wed, August 12th. If the link doesn't work, just to go bangshift.com and see the article & lots of pics there. https://bangshift.com/bangshift1320/speed-demon-continues-to-dominate-the-headlines-and-bonneville-record-books/ THANK YOU TJ for the tip too...............

First time I've visited your thread Kenneth and must say it's quite impressive. I certainly admire your approach/attitude towards building too. congrats on a job well done. cheers, tim -
Wonderful pics Bruce. I love the lone where you have the engine in the car and the wheels/tires in front for a quick mock-up. Very purposeful. Your paint is phenomenal btw. cheers, tim
