Fantastic build in every aspect. I thought I had the original article somewhere & I stumbled across it last evening. You did it real justice. Congratulations. cheers, tim

WOW Brian. What a great build you've got going. I bought a TDR body as well and I just want to say what a great job you did getting the body ready for paint. I've only sanded the roof to date and can see a bit of time getting it to where you are on the Nova. The fact you've done this 1/8 scale is just amazing. Looking forward to your next updates. cheers, tim

So Dave, now that you've switched to Fotki, I see you've learned how to photo-shop things, in this instance the Holley catalog. I was thinking of how to do a dominator in 1/25th and it just doesn't compute. I've always admired those carbs and glad to see the newest pics. cheers, tim

I came back and stared at your handiwork Clay & I really like the detail you put into the torsion bar bracketry. The smaller pieces sometimes get swallowed up by all the other great pics you're sharing and I'm guilty too of missing certain details the first time around. Nicely done! cheers

Thanks Pete, I hope to see more of your Bugatti engine progress soon.......no shows this year but 2018 should be my first. I machined the idler pulley bracket out of brass as I want to solder the brass tubes to ensure decent rigidity when it's attached to the block. I'm probably going to polish and then give the bracket either a chrome finish or I'll do a dychem red or blue color to mimic an anodized finish. I really enjoy drawing these things up now & figuring out how to machine it to see if it turns out. Cheers, Tim

I know you're oh so right Dave. Glad I had a mentor to point the way. Clay, too funny. Truly enjoying your dragster build & glad you're still checking the bantam out as I get towards the end. Bob, appreciated too.....I just finished drawing up the idler pulley bracket and should have it machined tomorrow or the next day. I'm really getting excited even though progress has been slowed up due to summer right now as I can see the end of the road on this build. I've done some mock-ups of the engine that I've not shared and it's looking pretty sweet if I may say so myself. 50 or so bolts just to detail the blower which took more than half a day to do. I'll share more pics when the next bracket is done. I think I only have the front engine mounts & a few other odds and ends to machine then I'm into painting, plating, polishing and assembly. August will be mostly paint time I hope. Oh how I wish I had Teresi's skills when it came to paint. Cheers, tim

YUM, that is quite tasty Clay and was certainly worth the wait. Great pics too btw. cheers, tim

I wanted to see the pics but when I opened the thread, all it says is "Please Update Your Photo-bucket Account"...............repeatedly. No pics but I see all the comments left by others. I don't get it. Glad I'm not one of their customers based upon other threads & comments about their performance & issues lately. For what it's worth, Fotki works well and consistently at a very reasonable price. Tim

Chris, really appreciate your interest and following along. I've learned a lot from your Vega build & it must have been my good fortune to have someone building a drag car from the same period. Still itching to see a new thread get posted by you on the dragster..........or whatever you've got up your sleeve. John, my same sentiments when I stare (and I do mean stare) at your threads. Your current Vette Funny is everything one would expect of your builds. No pressure huh? I'm still following and enjoying too. Dave, all that back and forth months ago trying to decide what style of car to build and now I can see it was the right one as this beast will be front & center. Soon I'll break out my air brush and start messing around with some paint colors / themes for it as I continue the last bits of body work and supports. Should be painted by around Labor Day or so. Thanks again for all your info, suggestions & overall assistance. Happy July 4th Guys! Tim

Hi Randy, thanks for the compliment, hope to see an update from you soon........ Dave, thanks too as always. Chris, you were a HUGE help with the 3D printed pieces you sent to me. They confirmed various dimensions for me and gave me the confidence to attempt machining them. BIG thanks!!! Art, also appreciated.......hope to see that brass midget of yours soon...wink-wink!! Got the front blower cover done and just have to glue it all up and add the necessary nuts/bolts. I can move on now but I will admit I'm very pleased how it turned out. I want to especially thank Chris Sobak and Dave, comp1839, for their contributions as well. Cheers, Tim

Thanks John, I only wish I could work at a fraction of the speed that you do. Leonard, hey man glad you stopped by and checked it out. What are you working on btw? Ready to post some pics soon? Got the bearing plate done, next I'll add the necessary bolts etc. and do the front plate/blower drive. I've not glued it on yet so it's a wee bit off center in these pics. Cheers, Tim

as an fyi, the bodies in 1/25th in FUD (Ultra Frosted Detail) are about $120.

Hey Joe, nice to hear from you and appreciate your peeking in on the thread. The blower I'm replicating is modeled after an Air Research blower from the early/mid 70's. I have some great pics of the Jade Grenade and a few funny cars that ran this 9 rib case. What you see today is 6 hours & 4 busted end mills to get the rear plate done. My intention was to get the bearing plate cover done too but I just ran out of time. Hopefully tomorrow. cheers, tim

Gorgeous Dave, the entire car is fantastic but I especially like the paint job you did. Cheers, Tim

MANY thanks to each of you. Couple pics of the blower base plate that I machined. Took 2 attempts to get it right as the tolerances were down to .1mm in some portions. I machined the plate with holes in it, then added s/steel tube & T2M bolts installed......the rear finned blower plate with bearing cover is next. Inching up on it. Again thank you!! Cheers, Tim

Just back from family vacation. Got the blower body parted off and a few quick mock-up pics.....next is the blower base, front and rear covers and almost ready for some final assembly of some of the motor. cheers, tim

1/16 Scale Army Vega Funny Car - Finished 10/14/2018
Codi replied to Mooneyzs's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
In his best sing songy voice............"So, whatcha been doing?" cheers, tim -
Calling all cars, calling all cars, be on the look out for a nasty 37' Chevy that isn't street legal (yet) that has been terrorizing the neighborhood. Your job is to arrest him and cuff him to his workbench and leave him there until he does something on this dragster build. He gets 3 hots and a cot a day plus 2 Sailor Jerry cocktails until his "community service" is fulfilled. CHEERS, Tim

Okay Clay, it's been a week now since your last post......................pics please.......I did say "please". cheers, tim

Thanks guys. Chris, you know me too well, of course I went back and fiddled with it most of the morning and got it to a point where I could pull it off the mill for some "clean-up". The pics are pretty much as it sits and I'm pleased enough with it to move onto the other blower components that I'll have to make. I'll drill some holes in the blower body as needed and then part it off. Thanks too for following along, the blower and fuel injectors took me a lot longer than my guesstimate but I was going through what components I have yet to machine for the build and they're down to about a half dozen, it should move along faster..........hopefully. Cheers

Well, kinda there Chris. I got the 9 ribs cut in today and I'm pleased with how they look on the blower. Twice as long to do it as I had originally thought. What I'm not wild about is the radius where it meets the side cut. I think to avoid that I should have used a smaller end mill and off set it a bit from the center itself. Not sure if that makes sense. So, do I try that or polish it and call it done knowing that when polished it won't be as noticeable. I'm leaning towards polishing otherwise several more hours with no guarantee that it would work and I just turn it into a pile of scrap instead. The pics don't show how nice the smaller ribs look unfortunately which is why I want to ponder it a bit more. cheers, tim This pic gives a better idea of what it looks like i think.

Hi everyone, yesterday & this morning got started on the blower. I still have the small .4mm cuts to make to attain the 9 ribs I want for this. I'm figuring that's 2+ hours as cutting those are tedious due to the fragile nature of the tiny end mills. These are just some quick shots of in progress. If I can get the blower body to be acceptable, I'll have a base plate to machine and the front & rear covers for 4 individual pieces in all. cheers, tim Please remember this is before any clean-up and polishing. thanx!
