1/16 Scale Army Vega Funny Car - Finished 10/14/2018
Codi replied to Mooneyzs's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
I like the changes Chris and especially how you describe doing them. Nice indeed. cheers, tim -
Bill, your build threads are always informative and fun to read. I wanted to learn something about body work and made sure to check out how YOU did it. Sure enough, learned some methods I hadn't thought about really liked. Hope to see you back at this soon. A student of yours, Tim

You've got some truly amazing scratch-building skills Rick. Sorry you "lost" your earlier photo-bucket pics in the thread but I'll most certainly be following along as well. Do you have a Fotki (or other photo hosting site) page that we can visit to check out your other work? Cheers, Tim

John, how can I get anything done when you keep posting such updates and I spend half my time staring at them. Once I think I've checked out all the newest updates, BAM!, you post some more. btw, I see you went to the Chris Sobak School of Hard Fuel Line Installation. They are as straight and sweet as can be. I'm going to have to sign up for the class too. Cheers, Tim

If you hadn't mentioned that it was the model, I could swear I was staring at something you were building for your 37'. The clutch pic is new ground. The effort you put into that one part, even though most of it is covered up, is jaw dropping and "crisp" is the only way I can describe the throttle linkage. I'm thinking you need just a few more days away from the 37'................cheers!

John, Chris, Brad, Foxer & Danno I thank you guys for the comments. It provides motivation & encouragement that I'm heading down the right path. Glad you like it. Dave, "tension", I laughed. Gotta love a pun. Pete, been a week now, share some pics please......... Good news yesterday wherein my doctor took x-rays & showed no tear in my right shoulder rotator-cuff. I had surgery for it years ago and I thought I tore it again. So a few weeks of physical therapy and all better. Today I sat down and made the front motor mounts, the tolerances were silly. They look pretty simple but the angles etc. were interesting when I drew it up. Drawing & machining them was about 5 hours all in. I was relieved when I parted them off and saw how well they fit the chassis/engine. Now I can prep & paint the manifold so I can get a bunch of these things installed on the engine once and for all. Cheers guys!!

I know you too well sir. When you say "I'll think you'll like them" regarding ANYTHING, then my expectations are set VERY high. You're a pretty down to earth guy and coming from you, well, I can't wait to see the clutch pics. Oh, and yeah, the most recent pics are quite tasty as well. Thank you Dave. Looks like Saturday is a go btw. I'll send you an email. Cheers

DOH ! A picture is worth a thousand words. I've got 2,000 for you now. What a build. Cheers Sir!

Fantastic build in every aspect. I thought I had the original article somewhere & I stumbled across it last evening. You did it real justice. Congratulations. cheers, tim

WOW Brian. What a great build you've got going. I bought a TDR body as well and I just want to say what a great job you did getting the body ready for paint. I've only sanded the roof to date and can see a bit of time getting it to where you are on the Nova. The fact you've done this 1/8 scale is just amazing. Looking forward to your next updates. cheers, tim

So Dave, now that you've switched to Fotki, I see you've learned how to photo-shop things, in this instance the Holley catalog. I was thinking of how to do a dominator in 1/25th and it just doesn't compute. I've always admired those carbs and glad to see the newest pics. cheers, tim

I came back and stared at your handiwork Clay & I really like the detail you put into the torsion bar bracketry. The smaller pieces sometimes get swallowed up by all the other great pics you're sharing and I'm guilty too of missing certain details the first time around. Nicely done! cheers

Thanks Pete, I hope to see more of your Bugatti engine progress soon.......no shows this year but 2018 should be my first. I machined the idler pulley bracket out of brass as I want to solder the brass tubes to ensure decent rigidity when it's attached to the block. I'm probably going to polish and then give the bracket either a chrome finish or I'll do a dychem red or blue color to mimic an anodized finish. I really enjoy drawing these things up now & figuring out how to machine it to see if it turns out. Cheers, Tim

I know you're oh so right Dave. Glad I had a mentor to point the way. Clay, too funny. Truly enjoying your dragster build & glad you're still checking the bantam out as I get towards the end. Bob, appreciated too.....I just finished drawing up the idler pulley bracket and should have it machined tomorrow or the next day. I'm really getting excited even though progress has been slowed up due to summer right now as I can see the end of the road on this build. I've done some mock-ups of the engine that I've not shared and it's looking pretty sweet if I may say so myself. 50 or so bolts just to detail the blower which took more than half a day to do. I'll share more pics when the next bracket is done. I think I only have the front engine mounts & a few other odds and ends to machine then I'm into painting, plating, polishing and assembly. August will be mostly paint time I hope. Oh how I wish I had Teresi's skills when it came to paint. Cheers, tim

YUM, that is quite tasty Clay and was certainly worth the wait. Great pics too btw. cheers, tim

I wanted to see the pics but when I opened the thread, all it says is "Please Update Your Photo-bucket Account"...............repeatedly. No pics but I see all the comments left by others. I don't get it. Glad I'm not one of their customers based upon other threads & comments about their performance & issues lately. For what it's worth, Fotki works well and consistently at a very reasonable price. Tim

Chris, really appreciate your interest and following along. I've learned a lot from your Vega build & it must have been my good fortune to have someone building a drag car from the same period. Still itching to see a new thread get posted by you on the dragster..........or whatever you've got up your sleeve. John, my same sentiments when I stare (and I do mean stare) at your threads. Your current Vette Funny is everything one would expect of your builds. No pressure huh? I'm still following and enjoying too. Dave, all that back and forth months ago trying to decide what style of car to build and now I can see it was the right one as this beast will be front & center. Soon I'll break out my air brush and start messing around with some paint colors / themes for it as I continue the last bits of body work and supports. Should be painted by around Labor Day or so. Thanks again for all your info, suggestions & overall assistance. Happy July 4th Guys! Tim

Hi Randy, thanks for the compliment, hope to see an update from you soon........ Dave, thanks too as always. Chris, you were a HUGE help with the 3D printed pieces you sent to me. They confirmed various dimensions for me and gave me the confidence to attempt machining them. BIG thanks!!! Art, also appreciated.......hope to see that brass midget of yours soon...wink-wink!! Got the front blower cover done and just have to glue it all up and add the necessary nuts/bolts. I can move on now but I will admit I'm very pleased how it turned out. I want to especially thank Chris Sobak and Dave, comp1839, for their contributions as well. Cheers, Tim
