Brad & Dave...thanks guys. Joe, WAY too funny sir. I still laughed when I read it again. thanks ! Paul (mr68gts) this post is a quick THANK YOU for the effort you put forth on the Lenco trans we discussed. As a brief background in 1/25th scale there are resin & kit lenco transmissions available to us. There is a TDR Lenco that is a modern C3 copy. It's nice but I'm building a car from the mid-70's and that trans didn't exist at that time. This is where Paul comes in. He had rendered a really nice 1/16th / 1/12th scale Lenco CS-1, which was the first trans that Lenco introduced specifically for drag racing (my understanding btw) and it's a big larger, heavier and stronger than the C3. Paul can correct me on that if I'm wrong. Anyways, I asked Paul if he'd re-size his CS1 to 1/25th scale for me. He responded and now has it available thru TDR / Shapeways. They arrived last night and I quickly mocked up one. For my particular build I ordered it as a 2 speed with reverse. The material is the Ultra frosted detail and with a little more clean up and drilling out some bolt holes, I have a really nice trans to add to my build. The smaller, primered trans next to the CS1 is the C3 trans as a comparison. Oh, price was $8.25 per trans. Thanks again Paul!!

Man I love that car Bill. I don't know if and how you might get the decals for it, but you might ask John Teresi if he'd paint it for you. Now that would be a challenge even for John I think. Hope to see you move forward with this project. Good luck! tim

69 pro mod chevelle, chassis started mock ups
Codi replied to mr68gts's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Nice mock-up Paul. Your efforts are really starting to show in the progress you're sharing. cheers, tim -
Hey guys, I'm sneaking up on it. No studs today as the tedious nature of putting the ribs in has given me pause and to call it a day. More soon. cheers, tim

That would be Chief Joseph right? I've read about his quality on other threads but that is just stunning. In any scale. Nice job detailing it too. cheers, tim -
Pete & Paul, yeah because we're nuts. I know I am anyways but I have an idea or 2 on how to shape the back end of the scoop. This little bugger, if I can get it right, will probably be 20 + hours when all is said and done. we'll see. Ray, Dave, Chris, Dave S. & John, thanks for the comments and interest. Today I made some headway on the hubs to go with the rotors. There is a 5 degree taper to the hubs front to back and I cut 12 grooves into the hubs so I can add .4mm nickel silver rod to replicate the raised ribs on the hub. I did a test fit to the wheel centers with only a little tweeking they fitted up properly. I hope to get the ribs and the axle studs installed tomorrow so I can get onto the calipers and their support brackets. Pic one shows the hub on the mill while I'm putting the rib slots in it. When these are done I'll move right onto the front suspension so I can get her on all 4 wheels finally. Cheers, Tim

I can understand why you ditched the stock front clip. Your scratch built clip is looking sharp John. Go find those missing photos now. cheers, tim -

Nicely done Mitch. I love the stance on this build. cheers, tim -
Thanks so much fellas. I got the remaining tabs on the chassis that I wanted to get on before moving onto the next part. I've gotten a decent start on the hubs, the rotors are done and then I'll get onto the calipers and caliper bracketry. Not ready to post those pics just yet but I took a detour today and fiddled around with making a more accurate Crower blower scoop for the 8 port injection. In the 2 pics you'll see some plastic / resin pieces that I had in the parts box but I wasn't satisfied with their level of accuracy. The brass one I made was my 3rd attempt and I might attempt one more. Mine still needs the back portion formed and soldered on, the 5 ribs on the top of the scoop added and the bottom portion that meets up with the injectors themselves. My plan is make that plate separately after I complete the Crower 8 port injectors. I'll cut out the bottom of the scoop and solder on the matching plate to wrap it up. It's closer I think to the real one and I never realized some of the little styling cues that the real one had until I studied a bunch of photos. The brass one I made by the way was made of special oblong brass stock, then cut at various angles and soldered the 4 different seams together. This kind of stuff is a lot of fun to make and offers a nice break from machining from time to time. cheers, tim

Whoa Paul, have you looked at R.B. for 1/12th scale bolts in particular? I know you have purchased from him and use his product per your earlier posts? You might also check out www.model-motorcars.com for possible scale hardware solutions. If I can think of anyone else that might be useful, I'll drop you a PM. Looking good too btw!!! cheers, tim -
2013 Pro Stock Camaro body(TDR)
Codi replied to crowe-t's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
MIchael, I bought a particular body from TDR recently in each of the 2 materials. The Frosted Ultra Detail is the only way to go. Today I primered the body and I can see there is a fair amount of work ahead of me to make it right. The quality has vastly improved with the new material and technology. I'm hopeful that when I sand it down I can get it correct in 2 or 3 primer applications. To do the body mods that this particular body has would take more time I believe than trying to make the TDR body work. I won't know till I get after it which might be a few weeks. If I have anything to share I'll be sure to post my experiences. Hope this helps. Cheers, Tim -
I promised an update when and if. The parts arrived today and of very good quality. Can't believe he lives in Gettysburg Pa. which is about 30 minutes away. Nice to see a Pa. boy making good. I'm sure the rest of you with outstanding orders will receive something in the near term. cheers

Throttle pedal done today.....6 pieces, brass base plate, diamond plate brass from Plano model parts, heel plate, toe strap, throttle linkage bracket and rod to attach it to the chassis. I'll nickeel plate it all later...another one off the list. A white plastic parts bash piece is shown in the 1st pic as a reference. I wanted the detail of the diamond plate for texture. cheers, tim

Adventures in soldering:The GT40 project New pics 2/13/17
Codi replied to Randy D's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Note to self, need micro-spring...........for you know what. I don't think I've every seen ANY model weber carb, no matter what the scale, as nice as this. I had them on my MGB as a kid, and your pics bring back memories (being an MGB, most weren't that great). The shot with the light shining down through the throat is just a big ol' giggle. Thanks for the update Randy, Tim -
Brad, I'm still waffling between a torsion bar setup or my first choice, a coil over shock arrangement. It shouldn't be all that much longer till I get to that point. thanks for following. Chris, I have no doubt you could make something like this and even do it better. You should try making your F.E.D chassis in brass. That's going to be an awesome build no doubt. Randy, just a few piddlin' bars when compared to your brass masterpieces. Your positive comments are very welcome from a craftsman like yourself. Thanks again. Dave, yeah, I laugh too when I see all that shiny brass that's going to be painted eventually. I really like that black you just sprayed on your dragster chassis. Makes the metal work pop all the more. I wouldn't mind having mine look half as nice as your build when it's done. appreciated! Davewilly & John...............thanks as well!! Cheers everyone!

Seeing as this part of the forum is near or at the bottom of the list on Topics, I sometimes forget to stop by. My loss. Great googily moogily man, the last pics and detailed you shared John are awesome. 10 minutes and a cup of coffee and I'll be done checking out all the cool stuff you've done again. You're nearing the finish line aren't you? cheers, tim

Great tips Pete. I just learned a new trick, that being the heat to release the super glue. I've used acetone to remove it but I'm going to be in need of this method for a particular reason. THANKS!! I was not as knowledgeable about the various grades of aluminum beyond the standard 6061, I've tried others and stumbled across the 7075 for the Donovan. I used it to make some pieces and everything you mention about it is true. I bought more. What scale are the engines Pete? Lastly, I want to acknowledge the beautiful soldering job you did on the coolant pipe and the fact you heated and stretched the individual pieces to replicate the part. That type of detail goes unnoticed all too often. Now get back to work. cheers
