  1. Ahhhh, thanks for the explanation John. Now I know I have NO hope of ever painting anything close to that. Where did you learn to paint like that??? You truly are an artist with an airbrush. Cheers
  2. Many many thanks guys and trust me Mike, oh so human. Sometimes its the little things that take what seems forever. Getting the bottle brackets made, aligned properly and on the chassis was as tedious as I thought it would be. On to a few more bars on the chassis and finally rear brakes & hubs. cheers !! Remembered to put the pull pins on them too for this pic.
  3. Been too long since I checked in John on your progress here. Oh...........My.................Goodness!! The entire trike is fantastic but I'm going to admit once and for all that I think your painting talents are otherwordldly.................yes, that's my description and I'm sticking with it. I just love those colors and how you executed it. One question for you, where you showed the painting of the "raindrops" on the car, it looks as though you have an attachment to your airbrush to achieve it, are my eyes deceiving me or is that something you came up with to achieve the effect?? Love it all dude! cheers, tim
  4. Bob, they're from my parts stash. Not sure who's they might be but I didn't turn em' on the lathe. I bought them 3 or 4 years ago. Thanks Dave for the offer. Hadn't thought about that idea AND it would hide the dirt. Fire bottles are done. Several hours a day over the last week and other than paint & soldering the brackets to the chassis, finished. The yellow cap you see in the background is Tamiyas Camel Yellow which I'll paint them whenever the weather breaks a bit. The small bits of wire with brass collars on the end are the nozzles & lines that will run from the bottles. 1 to the front of the engine, the other to the driver. cheers, tim Pencil for scale reference.
  5. Chris, the book of adjectives has now been depleted. I've petitioned Websters Dictionary to come up with some new ones that we can use for your build. Superb! Tim
  6. Good to know JIm. At this point, I would think any person in business would realize the importance of simple communication with your customer. Not just Clearly Scale. I had the same lack of communication issues with Mark Johnson who also had a good reputation for quality. My simple expectation of ANYONE in business for themselves, hobby or otherwise, is to be respectful of the person willing to spend their money on their service or product. With that in mind, maybe they could simply put on their websites a "Timeline" part on there site wherein they state honestly & accurately their deliverable schedule............something as simple as "now filling orders placed by Dec. 22nd" or whatever. That tells the prospective customer what to expect and will forestall a slew of inquiries about open orders. Transparency and clarity is all we ask which is not unreasonable right? After a month, for a domestic order, one would / should expect shipment and if they can't do that, at least set and then meet the new expectation. My biggest gripe is ignoring the request for shipping updates when it comes to an order that is more than 4 weeks old. Let's hope it all works out right? Resin casters, IN MY OPINION, will have their business model threatened by the growing influence of 3D printed parts and the growth in that industry. Better quality, faster turn around times and more selection will eventually become the new norm and that technology / industry will fill the need for the most part. So much going on in 3D here on this forum right now to ignore. Cheers, Tim
  7. okay Chris, 2 days have gone by now...........where's the next update? come on man, I know you can do it. cheers, tim
  8. Model car porn there Dave. I hear Playboy is looking for some photogs. The pics do the car justice and I appreciate your sharing on how you painted the chassis and mimic'd the welds. Cheers Sir!
  9. hi guys, I'm just beginning on the bottles. Paint showed up today for them & I think when you see the finished pair, you'll like em'.........cheers

    1928 pickup

Very cool build John. I especially like the wheels. What kit / or who machined them if I may ask? We don't see many pick-ups and this is executed nicely. cheers, tim
  11. As an aside, I placed a small order in Dec. and inquired about status recently. 2 inquiries but no reply as of yet. Used Paypal as an fyi too. If I get an update or order, I'll be sure to post the update.
  12. Thank you gentlemen for your encouraging replies. I did want to let Davewilly know that the steering wheel grips aren't wood. That little experiment failed unfortunately. So today I started more brackets for various sub-assemblies. The 1st one was to route the oil lines from the block to the remote oil filter and the 2nd was the start of the fire bottles. I came across a pic of the Chrismann Sidewinder funny car wherein he put dual bottles vertically alongside the driver in a side by side configuration. I'm always looking for ideas that are a little out of the mainstream and this fit the bill. Still a ways to go on them but it's a reasonable start I think. Virtually every bracket is scratch on the car and even though I use tabs & brackets from DirtModeller and Futurattraction, in too many instances I'm having to make them myself which is time consuming. Onward! cheers, tim This shows the piece after I sweat soldered the base to the bottle rings. This bracket will get soldered to the bottom frame rail. I have a bracket to fab to secure the bottles at the top like the Sidewinder. This pic gives a good idea of the location for the bottles.
  13. Yes Paul, they will be a pain but they sure do look nice. All of the parts. The 4 link brackets really stand out, you did an excellent job rendering them. I'm sure I won't be the only one on the forum looking forward to your updates if you can get them made in PE nickel. I'd order a few sets immediately.........bet you can't wait to get the engine now!! cheers, tim
  14. Quick, someone tell the villagers that the dam has broken and Chris is on his way to finishing this car. Sweet update Chris and well done sir. cheers, tim
  15. Excellent Tommy. You absolutely nailed it. cheers
  16. Completed the steering wheel assembly & did the clutch pedal & added the inspection plate to it. Just some of the tedious stuff I've been messing with. The steering wheel is from Futurattraction. I wanted to do it with wood grips but after 5 hours of messing with it, threw in the towel. I did drill out the grips that come with the kit for a bit more of cool factor & added micro rivets to hold them in place. The instrument pod has the oil pressure gauge, kill switch and thanks to John Teresi, I spent 45 minutes adding a retention strap on the back of the oil gauge. The kill switch will be wired upon final assembly. Cheers fellas! The steering column is not permanently affixed yet for ease of mock-up and to make final assembly easier as an fyi. The trans is a lenco but it's a CS3, I've got to get a CS 1 for it to be accurate. Too many minutes making that silly upper support bracket that you can just make out in this pic.
  17. Fantastic Dave. I checked out your photo-bucket page and saw all of your updated pics. The pic of the entire car is really sweet. The black finish on the frame and the silver weld hi-lights at the joints is a nice touch too. I'm jealous. cheers, tim
  18. Joe, gonna let you in on a little insight on the depravity of my mind.......and why I take so many pics. I was staring at the mock-up pic and I realized I have to get the steering control arm through the firewall. If you stare at it you'll realize, like I did, oh......that's a problem if I want it too look cool. So I spent probably an hour today figuring out how to address that one component when I get there. But I assure you, it will be a pretty cool solution that I've come up with.......sorry, I digress as this build came with no instructions and sometimes these things just kinda crop up right? Chris, thanks for the clue on where to find John..............he's a madman I hear ya' Pete. I've decided to move up in the future to 1/12 scale as it's a nice compliment to my skill set I believe. Notice I don't want to jump up to 1/8th. I've seen Dave's cars in person and can't comprehend what it takes to build like that. I'll just sneak up on it I figure. Tyrone, thanks dude for following this one still. I AM making progress I promsise. My "punch-list" on the build is most certainly getting smaller and I can see daylight. It WILL be done sometime 2017 so I can get start the Pro Mod replacement. Cheers everyone and GO Steelers!!!!!!!!!!
  19. Somehow I missed the bottom of the prior page where you posted a pic of a "bead lock bear paw"...........so I went looking and lo' and behold............I gotta agree completely with Dave, that will look killer. When I met Dave to discuss wheels the Bear Paw was the one I decided to go with for the Bantam and Dave shared a bunch of help, insight & dimensions for it. Priceless. We even talked about how a set would look on his 37' Chevy. Just too trick if it could happen some how. Can't wait to see how your design turns out in 3D. I'm sure it will be awesome. Cheers!
  20. Got a real chuckle Brad from the "no magnet for brass"..........and it's what I asked Santa for no less........... Thanks Bob, I hadn't thought of that, guess I gotta tear it off and start over........tee-hee Dave, thanks man.........you can expect a question or 2 about the brakes discs........everything else I think I have figured out.......... Appreciated John!! Where can I find your next WIP btw....? I never know what you'll build next. As always Chris, thanks for checking in on the progress. I appreciate your eye for the details and what I'm working towards. I REALLY have to move up to 1/12th once I get the Pro Mod replacement done for the Henry. That will be my last 1/25th car for me. I'm going to do one with Dave but I don't want to say more about that just yet. Got a solid plan for the coming week and expect some really decent progress. Cheers to all, tim
  21. I like it Brad and your initiative but I have to ask, why o' why would you go even smaller at 1/32? I can't fathom it as I'm ready to jump up to 1/12th at some point in the future. Your eyes must hurt. cheers, tim
  22. Always love your updates Eric. I had never heard of woodlites until you posted about them. Did a quick search & was suitably impressed. Such a great design touch for your car. Phenomenal what you have going on here & I'm looking forward to more. cheers, tim
  23. Thank you Randy & Chris. Chris, the finger isn't where I would expect by now. Still a bunch of swelling and occasional discomfort but I did make some reasonable progress on the steering. For those of you that have not seen Randy's GT40 lately, go the WIP on the forum and check it out. This guy is crazy and therefore his work can be described as certifiably insane. I'm sure you're glad that Ford didn't put a V12 in that car instead of the V8...... This 1st pic was a recent pic of the car mocked up wherein I dropped the front a further 1.4mm. Doesn't sound like a lot but it got me right at the 3.0mm height at the front that I wanted. It's very close to The Tramp now and it's profile. I chromed the box and will get onto the steering wheel next. I'll be using a Futurattraction wheel with burl maple wood grips. In the various pics you can see some of the additional brackets, braces and tabs that have been added too. Can't wait to get onto the rear hubs and brakes at this point. In this pic you can see a scribe that I used to point out the bolts that hold the removable brace for the steering box. .5mm bolts hold it in place. The amount of time spent making & affixing the 2 silly brackets that support the box is not to be believed. I won't tell as it's embarrassing but yesterday alone took me an entire morning making just ONE. The 1st was the wrong size, the 2nd I dropped on the floor and lost, the 3rd was not tall enough and the last one was good to go AND I didn't lose it. Sheesh right? I don't know how Randy does it.
  24. Good golly Miss Molly......
  25. Thanks Brad, Dave (I don't know how to bleed brake lines btw, so that won't be a worry ) and Paul. Paul, I use Tix silver solder and flux to answer your question. Has a low melting temp., flows well and gives a pretty strong joint. Clean up is reasonable too. cheers
