  1. When my dad ran S/S everyone asked him why the Duster and not a chevy? He said,"Anyone can make a chevy go fast, you can buy parts for it at the junkyard. You can't do that with a 340, you have to be smart." Pretty much on the money.
  2. I grew up in a Mopar household. My dad had a 70 Duster 4 speed that ran SS/I . The guys that came to his shop ran Mopar's too. One ran SS/GA with a 69 Superbee 440 6 pack. Another ran a 63 Dodge wagon with a 426 Max Wedge, dual Carter carbs. It was a neat car, had the factory aluminum dog house. Also worked on Hemi cars, rebuilt some motors for restorations. My favorite had to be the T/A Cudas. He had a friend who drove one on the street, 340 6 pack, and also ran one of Gurney's Cudas in A /Sedan , and some Trans Am. Trick was the block out of his street car was in the race car. T/A's had a better engine block then the regular 340 block. All the station wagons we had had 400's in them. My brother had a 64 Barracuda with a 273 in it, and I at one time had an Aspen with a slant 6. If you like Mopars there is a LOT of variety to choose from. Yeah, the Hemi is the legend, but the other choices weren't too bad either.
  3. I never knew those Hubley models looked that nice. That's a fine looking wagon.
  4. I found out today that American Racing Miniatures will have some kits at the Cincy IPMS show. That's all I know. If someone goes would the please post back here to let those of us who can't go what they're up to. Contact information and such. I want this stuff like a junkie wants crack. I was raising kids the first time these came out. Now the kids are gone and I have money. Let us know what's going on.
  5. American Racing Miniatures , do they have a website ? I've looked and didn't see anything, maybe I missed it.
  6. That was my problem . I was busy raising kids when they came out the first time. When I finally had money, he wasn't making kits.Well now I can buy the ones I don't have. I always wanted the Stutz more than any other, and got beat at least once by Lee on ebay, probably more than that for one. I don't have to worry about that anymore.
  7. Nice find on the bike. De Coster was the man when it came to MX.
  8. If that Duesy was a larger scale by Gerald Wingrove, I could see the big price tag. I couldn't afford it, but Wingrove builds some masterpieces.
  9. I was talking to Lance Sellers at the memorabilia show at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He had some of his Indy car kits, and we started talking about Chris Etzel kits. He told me that someone has the molds and is going to be re-releasing his kits. I forgot the persons name, but know he isn't new to resin. I have 3 of the Etzel kits, but now they're to expensive. With the re-release they won't be anymore. When I get more information on I'll post it.
  10. I got great news, Chris Etzel's Speed Classic kits are going to re-issued. If you haven't seen one of these resin kits, I can assure you there are none better.
  11. My dad ran a 70 duster, first in G Stock, then SS/I . The horsepower rating was a bad deal if you were fast. NHRA would say you've been re-factored. You'd get put up from SS/I to SS/H. That would about kill you. The move up was a bad deal in the stock classes.
  12. The dealer is a fool. Sales involves word of mouth. One bad word of mouth kills ten thousand good ones. It's going to cost this dealer a lot of business. He's sorry now , supposedly, but when he sees the drop in sales he'll be more sorry.
  13. If I remember correctly , Dyno Don's match race car was the first 7 second pro stocker.
  14. Nice truck.Great weathering on it, and the stance is perfect.
  15. I live in Indy, I shoveled 4 times, and will one more before I go to bed. The snow is the easy part, it's the -13 that will be bad. Looks like with a day off work I'll be working on a model tomorrow. Not bad at all.
  16. The IRL had Steve Kinser, Jack Hewitt, Tony Stewart, just to name a few. They didn't speak with a foreign accent, and you could see them at local dirt tracks across the country. It would've worked then . Now, I don't think so. There is only one driver in the Indy car series who has driven at a local bull ring. That alone doesn't help. It's a shame the short track open wheel guys go to NASCAR. The Indy car series would be the 500 pound gorilla if, Gordon, Stewart, Edwards, Larson, and Kahne had gone there instead of NASCAR.
  17. Too many to choose from. The Crowd Roars with Jimmy Cagney. It has some incredible stuff of 1930's racing ,including Legion Ascot. Mickey Rooney The Big Wheel, 1940's racing action. Winning and Grand Prix . Just a few of the ones that I like. It isn't the story for me as much as it is the old racing footage. Those guys were brave.
  18. Why the beef about the heat? After three years of Indiana winters, the salt would've rusted it out anyways. Actually a nice kit of the old Bug. I worked on a lot of these as a kid.The dual port head was the first thing we'd go for. It wasn't a lot more horsepower, but even 15 more horses in a bug was worth it.
  19. I picked one up two years ago, and got it for a song off Craigslist. A 1/8 scale Torro Rosso Ferrari 643. Nice metal and plastic kit a lot like a Pocher. Best part is I paid $50 for it. I was very lucky.
  20. They also did some cars. They did some 1/48 scale or so cars. Foyt roadster,Clark lotus, an old Miller Indy car. Simple kits.
  21. When you have 25 billion taxpayer dollars to play with, who cares what it costs. It isn't GM's money.
  22. I also like sellers on Craigslist. . I picked up a Torro Rosso 1/8 ferrari F1 car for $50 UNASSEMBLED . This was the best Christmas present I got in the last 20 years.
  23. Here are 2 photos of the only DOHC sprint cars I saw run. The white 2 with Foyt in it at Terre Haute. This is AJ Watson's car. I saw Foyt cut a motor in half in this one at Terre Haute in 68 , I think. He threw a rod and never lifted. Look on the internet for Mike Mosley's crash in this car at Dayton, Almost killed Mosley, and it did kill the car. The 24 car is Gary Bettenhausen. Willie Davis ran the car with Gary as the driver, This car didn't run a lot with the ford in it.
  24. Only a couple sprint cars ran the 255 Ford, AJ Watson's car and Gary Bettenhausen's. Champ Dirt Cars were another story, a ton of guys ran them into the late 70's. The picture of AJ Foyt is in a champ dirt car, not a sprint car. Some kits that have the 255 motor are : IMC Lotus, Testors Lotus, and the Eagle kits of Gurney's cars, that I know of. AJ Foyt also did so much work with this engine, that the ones he did were called Foyts. He even had valve covers that said FOYT on them. Also know that the motor Clark won Indy with was not the same motor he used in F-1. In 1967( I think) Ford came out with their other DOHC motor, the Cosworth.
  25. Thanks guys. I know I'll do the one in Aurora, and I'll try to get to Colorado Springs.
