The model looked great the first time around, but like many 1:1 car owners, sometimes it's just time for a change so they get the old ride repainted a different color. All I can say is you have Maaco and Earl Scheib beat a mile!
-
I just built this kit as the "Little Old Lady From Pasadena" car. It looks very similar, right down to the bright red paint... BUT... Your model is an entire step beyond mine. I thought mine was pretty good, but the attention to detail in yours is outstanding. You can see my model in the "Cars of Rock 'n' Roll" CBP thread.

Yeah, what Tulio said: Those wheels are AWESOME!
-
Oh, yeah. you're right, of course. I just remember thinking that there was absolutely no possible way at all that the thing was going to work, and it turns out I was right. The car was just way too heavy (I thought the same thing with the DeLorean/Hovercraft). The MINI Snowmobile episode was pretty cool - especially the "race" with The King at the end!

I hadn't meant my comment as criticism. Frankly, I agree with you. I just thought it would be another way to go if someone else wanted to attempt the same sort of thing with more readily available parts. I'm anxious to see how Daniel's model turns out. Meanwhile, here's a shot of where I stand on my Chrysler 300-based pickup: -
That is some very impressive work, Dan. I have to admit, I got a real laugh out of " '49 Ford #3", and it's "Restoration"! I'll have to post a few of my older Glue Bomb restorations myself when I have more time.

The body of my V-8 Corvair is in putty and should be ready for primer within a day or two. I need to get a lot of it done this week since we're leaving on vacation for a week next Saturday. We'll be visiting our daughter, who we haven't seen in about 5 years and her kids, (including her son who we haven't even met yet!), so I'm not planning on taking any model stuff along. Our time will be for the family. If I remember to shoot some pics, I'll post them before we leave.

I keep seeing all these great "Rat Packer" builds on here! I just gotta build one of the ones I've got in my stash some time... Soon, I hope! (My first car was a '65 Chevy II... )

Another way to pull off the Edsel-Ranchero build would be to splice in the old Revell '57 Ranchero's roof and inner pickup box to the 2000's AMT Edsel's body. The Revell kit comes up pretty often on eBay, and glue bombs can be downright cheap. Do you think there would be enough involved in this conversion for it to be acceptable in your CBP? -
I loved the "School Bus/Party Boat" episode! I can imagine doing the Mazda RX7 Snowmobile, but I don't know if I'd want to build it before it failed miserably or AFTER Jesse got done obliterating it with that antiaircraft gun!

This sounds like a great idea but I have a couple of suggestions: Take a week or two to let guys decide to enter and get their kits and parts together, THEN have a starting date. A month from the announcement of the CBP is pretty short notice. Also, there were some other builds they did on the show that some of us might be interested in trying - the 1951 Chevy full-on custom done by the legends of Kalifornia Kar Kustoms in the final season of the show comes to mind imediately. Or how about the Demolition Derby Cadillac? Then too, would it be possible to fudge a little on the specific years of the builds as long as they are in keeping with the car on the show? Certain years are more available as kits than others. Or maybe substitute a Tahoe for the Explorer for the Thrah Truck for instance so that a more common kit can be used? Maybe substitute an Escalade for the Suburban used for the Wedding Chapel? Don't get me wrong: I'm not trying to hijack your CBP here. Just tossing in my .02 worth.

That 356 Cabriolet next to it in the photo faked me out completely! I was in the right neighborhood in thinking it was German but I thought it was several years newer than 1952. I checked Borgward and DKW but overlooked little Goliath completely. Good job on this one, Harry!

Every time I think of a '69 Camaro model, I think it's a subject that's been done to death... Then I see a beauty like this one! Great job! The color makes it stand apart from the crowd.

Like they say in the McDonald's ads: I'm likin' it!

She's a beauty! I'm impressed with all of the Revell/Gearz contest entries I've seen on here recently and this is one of my favorites. A good concept and a clean build - a hard combination to beat!

A great rescue of a glue bomb (That's one of my favorite aspects of the hobby). Don't be too hard on the Chevy engine that was in it when you got it. That's what AMT put in the kit. The ONLY engine they put in the kit. Hey, I'm a dyed-in-the-wool Chevy man, but I was disappointed to find that out when I bought a reissue of the kit about a decade ago. I had been hoping to find a straight-6 in the box... I never did get around to building it as a result. -

Can I use one that I already haved entered in another CBP? I started in on converting an AMT '57 Chrysler 300-C into a pickup for the "Parts Box" build over a month ago. The original 300 was used as a donor for my Jo-Han '60 Plymouth wagon that I'm building for the "Cannonball" CBP. The Chrysler will probably have the Plymouth's chassis and running gear, although I might try to find a better engine in the parts box for it. -

Yeah... Rutledge. 'Nuff said. Can you say "Ham-Fisted"? There'll be no need for a Corvair motor in the trunk. Besides, there's already going to be a radiator there. Handling??? A live axle and torsion bars up against a 4-wheel independant coil spring setup? Wake up! You're dreaming again! You'll have to stroke that ol' Hemi and maybe and toss that turbo at too to put it in the same league as a Z-06 mill in a car that only weighs about 2/3 what yours does. If I decide to put a blower on mine, well, the sky's the limit. There'll be plenty of room for it if I decide I want to go that route. Like the kids say, B'bye... -
Future modeler in the works,,,,,,,at least I hope anyway
CorvairJim replied to gtx6970's topic in Model Cars
Wow, a great build for a first-timer. My younger daughter built her first model at about 12 too, and before long she was laying down some fantastic rattle-can paint jobs. She did one, a two-tone purple over silver 1990's S-10 Blazer 4-door(factory available colors, believe it or not!) that came out so well that it didn't even need polishing out! Encourage your daughter and help her along when she needs it. This is a hobby that can bring the two of you closer together. They grow up fast (Don't I know it!), but this can become something the two of you share for a lifetime. Please encourage her to become a member of this website and post her own builds as she builds them. There is a wealth of talent on here that can offer all kinds of advice if she needs it. -
I've had the opportunity to check out a chopped 1:1 '70 Chevelle and I'm here to tell you that it isn't nearly as straightforward as a chop on most other cars. One look at the sail panel tells me that this isn't the sort of thing for the faint of heart. Then to get it all to line up so that the flush-fit windshield can actually fit flush... Man, this model isn't just a home run, it's a grand slam! As the good doctor requested, PLEASE share more of your work with us.

"Might actually keep up"??? Michael, are you forgetting about it's 600+ horses of Corvette Z-06 motivation sitting in the back seat of my little Corvair? That's more than enough in a 3,000 lb car to "keep up" with a 2 ton+ Daytona! The Rambler should "keep up" with you given it's lighter weight but worse aerodynamics, but I've got power-to-weight, handling, AND aerodynamics (I've already fabbed up my flush-mounted headlight and driving light covers) on both cars! (Gee, I LOVE trash talk! ) -
Carroll Shelby tribute community build.
CorvairJim replied to wgflatliner's topic in Community Builds
What a great tribute to a great man! There were so many cars he had a hand in beyond the Cobra and GT350 and 500 Mustangs including the cars he did with Chrysler Corp. (the Dodge Omni-based GLH, GLH-S, and Shelby Charger, and the Viper) and on his own later on. And let's not forget about the Aston Martin he won LeMans in back in 1959. I don't know if I'll be doing this one since I don't do much with Ford-based models or these Mopar subjects, but I will be following it. -
Definitely cooler than any Myers Manx, mostly because of the CORVAIR POWER, but also for the outside the box thinking that went into the styling. This is one of the best jobs I've ever seen done on this model. I like your color choices.
-
This Matador has my attention! I'm with Chuck; Go with the first set of rims. Since you're planning a red, white, and blue color scheme, the red sleeves would be the way to go, at least in my opinion. Your body kit looks like it might have come from the AMC Styling Department, if it were still around today.

A girl I dated in high school in the late 70's drove a hand-me-down black 300-H coupe with a tan interior. Her brother bought it as a used car in the mid-70's and when he went to trade it in wasn't offered squat for it. Heck, who wanted a big ol' gas hog like that when gas was all the way up around $1.00/gallon!?!?!
