  1. Some other models from this show. It was a small show with about 100 entries, but there were some very nice builds on display.
  2. Now that I'm in Ohio, Wayne, NJ is too far away. Have fun everyone!
  3. This was on display at the Cincinnati Auto Replicas Model Car Club show... I really enjoyed the builder's ability to make it look so realistic in such a large scale.
  4. The price is higher than normal and the kit may turn out to not be perfect, but if I can build a reasonable approximation of the 77 Olds without having to buy a resin body and a donor kit, I'm fine. Most of my builds are only ever seen by me and everything under the body is largely hidden. I appreciate the effort that Salvino is making to give us never produced kits. I'm willing to allow for some growing pains and support a new initiative for that reason alone. Just my two cents.
  5. I like that HL is keeping up with many of the new kits!

Alan, this roof did come from the kit.
  7. Oh man, and I was so excited...
  8. I just got this in my Inbox from Modelroundup.com: During his career, fan favorite Buddy Baker won nineteen races including the 1980 Daytona 500, NASCAR's most prestigious race. His victory remains the fastest Daytona 500 ever run, with an average speed of 177.602 mph. This limited edition (1 of 5000) fully detailed kit with engine commemorates Baker's 1980 Daytona victory. We anticipate offering some additional decals with different drivers and sponsors. Stay tuned! Salvino's JR Models is a brand new model company dedicated to manufacturing the most fully detailed and authentic NASCAR scale model replica kits ever produced. Hailing from a family with deep racing heritage, Rick Salvino has launched into his new model kit project with great gusto. Rick indicates to us that he is starting with General Motors licensing to fill in some gaps of stock cars that have never been produced as plastic model kits. He hopes to produce 3-4 new kits a year with a few very low production run special issues. *Since this is Salvino's first kit, and Rick tells us that they are still finalizing test shots, delays are possible. Rick remains optimistic about a May release date, but June would not surprise us.

    Thanks Carl!
  10. We have a mixed bag of Michael's stores here in Cincinnati/Northern KY. Some of them are the crappy, bare bones stores with a minimal amount of kits and supplies, but some of them have things that I like - Testor's CreateFX stains and washes, One Shot lacquers, and also brushes - all purchased with a 40% off coupon. I also purchase inexpensive craft paints in various colors - they can be used for some modeling applications. I also buy the large cans of Krylon spray paints at Michael's, as well as large cans of flat and satin clear coat. They do occasionally have models - the Revell Bronco and Olds both appeared recently. Stray away from the model aisle and look around. You might be surprised at some of the things you'll find that can be used for modeling.
  11. Craig is a good guy and his wife Robin is so sweet. I'm in Cincinnati now, but for a time, when they relocated their shop to the Brookfield/Danbury line, I was in there almost every weekend!
  12. Just saw this in an Auto World email. I want it just for the little bike!

This is basically what I did - I laid down the same color Krylon blue that is used on the wheels, dash, and steering wheel. I then sprayed a light coating of Krylon Short Cuts Antique Bronze over that. I laid on some Krylon Flat Clear and it had the unexpected bonus effect of creating a somewhat cracked look in spots, probably because I deliberately put a heavier coat on. I let it dry for a week or so and then all I did was take Testor's CreateFX Rust #1 and Rust #2 enamel stains and started randomly applying it, using the side of a wide brush to create the streaking effect. I was just winging it and hoping for the best! When I felt like it looked good, I laid another coat of Krylon flat. It is really flat overall - the pics don't quite convey this. Next time I want to try the salt trick to get that scattered, exposed rust look. Since the kit only cost me $10, I figured if I completely botched it, I still had a box full of parts that I could eventually use elsewhere.

Thanks for the nice words, everyone. It has been a rough few years, but I'm getting there. Now, on to the next one!

It may have been an MPC kit at one time. It was labeled as one of the AMT "Switchers" kits. There were some fit issues along the way and some parts didn't cooperate as much as I'd like, but I was able to make it work!
  17. This is awesome. Love it!
  18. It's been about three years since I finished something. Both parents died, I had to settle their estate, my job went away so I moved 700 miles to hold on to it, and I'm still not in a permanent location, but I found this 32 Ford for $10 and decided to not stop until it was done. I also took a stab at giving it a rusted look.
  19. I was in a different Cincinnati Hobby Lobby earlier this week and an employee was resetting shelves. There were no new kits. I think they are being rolled out slowly so just wait another week or two. If you want the Edsel, grab it first. Florence had one that was already sold and the store I went to today had one and I grabbed it. It seems to be the only kit that has limited stock right now.
  20. Nice tire options in the Continental kit.
  21. Found this for $7.99 at a Half Price Books in Cincinnati. They sent me a 40% off coupon so I got it for under $5. Covers every year up until 2014 - lots of nice reference pics.
  22. The Pepper Shaker was also there and I saw the Olds at the Hobby Lobby in Florence, KY (these pics are from the HL on Colerain Ave in Cincinnati).
  23. For some reason, the pic of the Mount 'N Goat and Union 76 Chevy 3100 won't upload.
