Proof that sometimes in life you can get lucky. An incorrect search result about two weeks ago turned this kit up for a mere $12.99 + $5 shipping. I was sure I found an outdated page or that it was a mistake, but no. The seller apparently didn't know what he had. My apologies to my Facebook friends who may be seeing this as a duplicate post. I was so excited to find this. I sold so many of my Revell drag kits in the late 90's when I thought I might abandon the hobby. Reclaiming any of them at a bargain price is always cause for celebration!

A recent trip to Michaels found me in a good mood when I discovered they're now selling Testors One-Shot lacquers. I love using these for routine builds and with the 40% off coupon, they end up costing a little over $3. So far I grabbed Electric Pink, Inca Gold, and also a blue, purple, and silver, all of which I can't recall the exact names for. I went twice in one day and was able to use the coupon a second time. Either way, it's a less expensive way to build your spray can collection if you're so inclined.

My face is actually in my thumbnail, but sadly, I don't really have red skin, pointed ears, or devil horns. This is the pic that it originated from. If you look for me at NNL East, look for the guy with a big belly taking a million pics and now sporting a beard and mustache... assuming I don't choose to shave it by then.

Motor Racing Models magazine on disc
DanR replied to DanR's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It's a great deal Curt and I'm happy that you're making it available. I never got to enjoy that magazine during its initial run so this was a chance to find out what I missed! -
My AWESOME haul today

Why do I never come across garage sales like this??? -
If that's the case then yes, that is a criminal activity and you should NOT let this stop you from enjoying the hobby. You certainly should pursue this and even consider a lawsuit if you're sure you can prove it was the apartment manager. I had a nasty break-up in the mid-90's. My ex cited my model building as a factor and it really got me down. I had to move to a smaller apartment and I pretty much stopped building. I started selling kits. I told myself it was an immature hobby and I needed to grow up. And then it slowly started to happen... I stopped letting her words and the awful things she did to me stop me from being who I was and doing what I enjoyed. I got back into the hobby and eventually healed that wound by buying almost every Tamiya 1/12 scale F1 kit that was made (therapy rules). Now sadly, the downside of that selling frenzy was the loss of the Carpenter and Soff Seal pro stock kits, the Christine pro stock kit, the Tony Foti L.A.P.D. Camaro (aaaarrgghhh), several drag and funny cars, and a variety of street cars. I have managed to replace some of these, but never all of them. So keep what you have until you get past this, you may regret it otherwise.

Thanks Model Cars for highlighting the Motor Racing Replicas News/Motor Racing Models magazine CD in issue 163. My disc came yesterday and I had a chance to look at some of the PDF copies of the issues. I particularly enjoyed the honest write-up on the Accurate Miniatures McLaren kits (although you'd have to have been comatose to not know by now that there are serious fit and build issues with that kit). 41 issues for $15 is a hell of a great deal and I look forward to reading each one over the next couple of months. For anyone who didn't see the piece in the November issue, if interested, send $15 via PayPal to ceraitz@gmail.com and Curt will send a disc to you in about 1 week. You can also send a check or money order to: Curtis Raitz 686 Helen Drive Hollister, CA 95023 I use PayPal all the time. When I sent the money, I added a quick note requesting the CD and for good measure, I mentioned the Model Cars ad.

Thanks Bruce. I don't just do NASCAR. Like many others here, it was an obsession for some time that has now faded out a bit. I have a ton of kits (more than I will ever build - NASCAR (from 50's to early 2000's, F1, Rally, CART, street cars, pro mods, funny cars, dragsters, you name it...). To give you an idea of how varied I've become, here's my last build: ...and I'm working on the Meyers Manx now.

Wait, my mistake, the #41 is Greg Sacks, not Terry. Oops!
-
And I have actually built the Got Milk car, which is on Coyote's to-do list: And I've also built his early #41 Kellogg's car:

I totally get this obsession. I have probably 95% of the decals that Coyote has and I really do plan to build many of Terry's cars. My obsession mainly arose from the fact that 1) Terry was a great champ - modest and appreciative, and 2) He drove some of the coolest, most colorful cars on the track. I would have probably built several of these at some point even if Terry wasn't the driver.

The bent grille leads me to believe it's real.

They're fun kits and they build up nicely right out of the box. I still have several to build and look forward to each one!

I just completed the AMT '37 Chevy Early Modified, which makes a nice companion piece to the Ford Modified I had done some time back. Here are both photographed together. When I built the Ford, I didn't recall many build problems, but as I stated on a different forum, the Chevy had issues, particularly with the assembly of the rear axle (don't use the locator pins, sand them off and line it up visually) and also with the inner shelf unit (if it can be called that) - it extends out too far and pushes on the frame behind the driver. I still need to resolve an issue with the a-pillars not reaching the firewall. The Chevy was airbrushed with Testors Burnt Sienna acrylic. The engine is Pacific Blue. A fun build in spite of the problems I had.

New to the board but not to modeling - AMT '25 T Chopped Coupe
DanR replied to DanR's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Alyn, Painting is still a hit or miss proposition for me after all these years. Sometimes I still do a terrible job. This was painted with Testor's Brass airbrush ready Metalizer. I used it purely on a whim and I ended up loving the end result. The interior was painted with a $1 can of Wal Mart Color Place red. The engine is also a Testors Metalizer - this time Burnt Iron. I chose this color strictly as a contrast to the brass body. I like the overall result. Thanks for the compliment! -
Since he's on here, maybe Jairus can tell me how to pronounce his name. After reading it in print for so many years, it would be nice to hear it correctly in my own head! I always assumed it's like "hi-roos" - am I close?

That is beautiful work.

I just read about this forum in the current issue of Model Cars and so I signed up. I'm a semi-regular on Scale Auto's board. I've been modeling for 20+ years now and I'm mainly a box stock guy who does it just to relax and have fun. Here's my most recent build. I'm still on the fence about adding decals to it. - Dan
