I have a suggestion for a new board category and I was wondering what others might think about it. Essentially, when we read kit reviews or articles on build-ups, the writer will often point out some kind of error in the instructions. Either there’s a piece that should be put in earlier than the instruction’s suggest, or there is unclear instruction on the placement of a part, and sometimes there are just build issues that can be avoided if you do the same model a 2nd time around, or have knowledge of the issue in advance. I’m sure that most everyone here is like me – we read about this, tell ourselves to remember that when we build the kit, and then forget years later and can’t remember what magazine we saw it in. I was thinking of a new category along the lines of something like “Errors And Corrections.” The idea would be that each topic pertain to one specific kit by a given manufacturer and it contains the details of whatever problems a builder can expect to find. It would remain an easy to find reference and builders can add to a post with any additional tips, suggestions, recommendations, etc. when they finally get around to building the same kit. This way, if you’ve finally found that holy grail kit and it turns out you really shouldn’t have pre-assembled the body prior to painting, you can check the board and save yourself a whole lot of misery. Let me know what you think!

You can occasionally find good deals on eBay as well.

Thanks Junkman, but I'm OK right now. It was nice of you to offer.
-
Thanks for the offer, but I wouldn't impose like that.

Have the Heller kits already been discontinued?? I can't seem to find them available anywhere.

Wow, I'd love to have that Safari Rally Stratos.
-
Thanks! I love the Hasegawa really car kits. The HiAce was just too cool to pass up.

I've had a good few days. I was on a bit of a hiatus again (this happens with me, I get absorbed with something else and modeling takes a back seat for a while). In the past few days, and thanks to some non-cash awards at work (that were converted into Amazon gift cards). I purchased the following: Tamiya’s Toyota HiAce Quick Delivery van Hasegawa’s Lancia Stratos HF – 1977 Safari Rally Revell Auto Transporter Revell Hot Rod Hydro boat MPC 1/16 Buddy Baker Charger Moebius Tim Flock ’56 Chrysler And on a separate trip to Hobby Lobby with 40% coupons I got the AMT 1/16 Mustang and the Lindberg 1938 Custom Ford Van. Now, what to build next…

Amazing Vehicular Modeler magazine
DanR replied to DanR's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Wow, I am woefully behind the times lately. That sucks that there were only two issues. I thought I stumbled across a cool new find... Thanks for the info, guys! -
Has anyone purchased a copy of this new magazine from Amazing Figure Modeler magazine: http://amazingmodeler.com/avm.html I ordered issues 1 and 2 to check them out. I don't expect this to be your standard car modeling magazine like Model Cars or Scale Auto, but it still looks interesting. If anyone has a copy, let me know what you think.

Toyoda's (Toyota) first ever passenger vehicle coming from Tamiya
DanR replied to DanR's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Oh man, I'm a bit behind the times on new releases lately. Sorry! -
Wow, that is really beautiful.

Great job. I believe the Revell kits are repackaged Hasegawa kits. I've started a couple and they do go together nicely.

Is that an aftermarket grille? If not, how did you remove the molded in emblem so cleanly?

New kits with flaws.
DanR replied to Dave Metzner's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Excellent insight into your process, Dave. I can't speak for everyone here, but I'm just happy to have a kit of a car that I really like. I can overlook flaws if the finished product captures the overall look and feel of the vehicle. -
Never mind. I found the t shaped part and can see that it connects to the fuel pump.
-
All, This kit is quickly becoming one that I hate. Maybe someone can help me out. In step 24 of the instructions, there are two 1 inch sections of tubing coming off the carburetor and connecting to some kind of t-shaped piece. What is this?? It's not a kit part. I have no idea where to connect these two lines. I can probably fabricate a part easily, but even then, I still don't know what exactly it attaches to. I'm also surprised at the lack of reference photos available online. Also, has anyone noticed that there is nowhere near enough medium black tubing in this kit?

Does anyone know the interior color for the #5 Jim Stacy Dodge Charger?
DanR replied to DanR's topic in WIP: NASCAR
Thanks Bob! -
There are a few NASCAR specific parts in the Moebius stock car kits that aren't in the standard kit. I don't have both readily available to do a comparison, but they are not identical in contents.

I think it's the most beautiful modern car ever made and you did an amazing job on it.

Ha ha Richard, I know that feeling. It's worth the $$$, you'll enjoy building it.
