New Plastic @ Hobby Lobby

Wow, I wish they had them discounted to this price at one of my local HL's. I would buy the Lawman and the Soapy Sales at those prices. -
I was just at the Hobby Lobby on Colerain Ave. in Cincinnati and they have the Molotow Chrome pens that are featured in this month's issue of Model Cars. The pens are in the same aisle as the models and paints and retail for $11.99. That's $4.80 off with the HL coupon, making them $7.20 each. Just sharing this info for anyone interested. They're also close to being fully restocked - the Coca Cola '25 Model T was there, as was the AMT Vending Machine, Larry Fullerton's Mustang Funny Car, the Yellow Feather Prudhomme dragster, the Suburban, and a few other items I hadn't seen before.

I stopped at the Ollie's in Florence, KY tonight and found the 2013 Camaro and also grabbed another '25 Fruit Truck. They also had the Piranha Spy Car, which I don't think anyone else has come across yet. They only had about 9 of the spy car, maybe 3 of the fruit trucks, and 3-4 of the '23 T truck. There were plenty of Camaros, Tee Vee buggies, and Jawbreaker dragsters, as well as the Lindberg police car. I have two other Ollie's in Cincinnati to still check out.

The ad did not lie in regards to picture and price, but there was no amazing selection of additional kits.

Thanks Rob, I didn't realize that. -
A couple of basic tips/ideas for anyone interested

Wow. Photobucket is screwing me over and asking for a $400 fee to post my images to this site. I'm going to look into free alternatives. Back soon! -
I recently moved to Cincinnati from Connecticut and for the time being, I'm in a one bedroom apartment with a small area set aside for building. With some inexpensive Revell wood items from the local Michael's, I was able to build the following basic work area. I used sections of wood to create "holders" for paint bottles to help prevent tipping, and used the leftover lengths to make a guard at the back to keep things from rolling off the back of the table: Also, while at Michael's, I found these little paint storage cups that are perfect for storing small parts that may have fallen off of a kit tree. They come in strips of six but you can easily break them apart. They're small enough that you can toss a few loose parts into them and then throw them right into the kit box: If you're wondering, the part in there is a tongue! It's from the Weird-Oh's Freddy Flameout kit.

I'm with you. On principle alone, I refused to buy one. I see a couple of Tamiya armor kits now selling for $50 each and I am pretty sure that neither of these retails for that much elsewhere. I did wonder if Hobby Lobby is starting to factor their 40% coupon into some of their pricing. If that's the case, I'll just go back to waiting a while and then ordering them from warrenshobbies on Ebay. He tends to lower prices on kits that have been out for a while.

Correct blue for Tom McEwen 1972 Hot Wheels dragster

I'm going with Tamiya Brilliant Blue. It looks like a close match! -
Get ready to see Vallejo Paints go from $2.99 to $4.99 at Hobby Lobby. This is an inexplicable price increase. I discovered this at a Hobby Lobby in Cincinnati that is less than 1 mile away from a Hobbytown USA that sells just about EVERY Vallejo color for $3.49 a bottle. I would often use a 40% coupon and buy two, which would be about $5. Now, with the coupon, two bottles will be $8. Compare that to $7 at Hobbytown. To me, this makes about as much sense as HL having priced the AMT Lawman kit at $40 instead of $30. It's like they have no concept of suggested retail prices. Why would you deliberately price yourself out of the market??

Can anyone recommend a color that best corresponds to the actual color of this beautiful machine?

Is the magazine still being published?
DanR replied to DanR's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks for the update, everyone! I will continue to look out for the next issue. Rob Hall - my better half is still in my house in CT until we sell it and she moves out to Ohio with me. As a result, I'm using the same address that I always have. She puts a package together once a month that includes my magazines and other assorted mail. -
I'm not trying to be funny or cute by asking this, I am genuinely curious. I moved from CT to OH a couple of months ago and my life has been very busy. Little time for modeling or personal pursuits, but I have been doing my best to keep up on my mandatory reading (which consists mainly of this magazine, Scale Auto, and Rue Morgue). I haven't received a new issue of MC since before moving and I haven't been here on the forums for quite some time. I'm just curious if all is copacetic and if I can expect more great content soon. Thanks!

$30+ kits - hows it affect you?
DanR replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
To me, this is just like comic book collecting. I finally stopped when the cover price went from $3 straight to $4 and it just no longer made sense. If kits get too costly, I will stop buying new ones. Already, I no longer buy so many Tamiya kits because they average $70 and that is just crazy. Most of the Tamiya kits that I buy now are purchased on Amazon from Japan where I can get them for half the price with free shipping and have to wait about 3 weeks to get them. -
I think I want one of these now.
-
Looking at this list, it's shocking how many of these I own. And some of them in multiples.
-
Thanks!!

$39.99?? Why so much?
-
That is beautiful. Outstanding job!

Ok, that's pretty much what I thought. I picked one of these up at HL yesterday and it looks fine. I do wish there were better details around painting and decaling the body.
