  1. I have really grown to love military modeling lately and I particularly like the weathering process. This was my first attempt at a larger scale weathering/diorama scene and I'm happy with the results. The kit is an old Emhar kit and it is not quite up to snuff when compared to today's kits, but I do think it builds into a nice replica.
  2. If anyone is interested, the kits were painted with Model Master Hugger Orange lacquer spray. When I decided to use it, I didn't even realize that it's a Chevy color, I thought it was a Mopar color, but didn't care either way. I had two cans that were degrading a bit at the bottom (this seems to be an issue with some MM lacquer cans) and when I realized they were still usable, I figured this was a good opportunity to empty them out!
  3. Espo, holy c*** you are so right. You need the patience of a saint to build them. I used a lot of Evergreen Canopy Glue on those parts and it really worked great. Now that the midget is on the trailer, it will stay there. It's best not to handle it for fear of things coming off. The Canopy Glue also worked perfectly for attaching the photoetch parts for the steering wheel and gauges.
  4. Thanks for all the kind words, everyone. I am actually quite proud of this build. The SSR seemed like a perfect option because it has that retro styling without being one of the expected kits that Revell suggested pairing the midget kits with. And I second Don Relyea, I'd love to see these kits come back!!
  5. Both of these are Revell kits. Just a great, fun build all around!
  6. Wow, these pics are huge. I don't know how to make them smaller. You get some up close views of my flaws (that are hardly noticeable otherwise). Anyway, this was a fun modification!
  7. Roberto - I was able to find the Revell Don Prudhomme "Wynn's Winder" kit for $27 with free shipping - it was missing tires and the exhaust pipes are broken on one side (but can be easily fixed), so the seller was unloading it cheap!
  8. I'll settle for anything that's close to what came with the kit!
  9. Where did you get the resin slicks? Are they 1/25 or 1/16? I'm looking for a pair of 1/16 dragster slicks!
  10. All - I found someone selling resin M&H slicks in 1/16, but I'd prefer Goodyear and rubber if they're available. I can always sand the resin tires and use decals, but before I go that route, I figured I'd check in with all of you first. Does anyone know of a source? I was able to get a Revell Prudhomme Wynn's Winder kit for $27 because it's 99% complete, minus the rear slicks.
  11. I'm on a mission to find more of these - they are quick and fun builds!
  12. I have one Dave Deal kit to go - the Chevy Nomad. I hope to have that one done soon. I hope more of these get reissued some day - maybe by Atlantis. They are a lot of fun!!
  13. Thanks guys. I had fun with it!
  14. I decided to have some fun with this kit and do my own USA themed paint scheme.
  15. I haven't seen my subscription copy, nor did I see it at Hobbytown USA in Cincinnati when I was there over the weekend. At this point, I have to be honest - I've lost faith in the viability of this magazine. I'm also disappointed that it's been two years and when a new issue finally arrives, it's a contest issue. I guess time will tell, and I'll need that time to have my trust restored.
  16. The Ollie's in Florence, KY has a nice selection.
  17. Oh, this is awesome - thank you so much. He's going to be so happy.
  18. I'm at work - I think I'm being blocked. Thanks!!!
  19. Did the link work for you? It took me to a dead page.
  20. I need to get to Dover!
  21. Hi Derick, I just noticed your reply - the group name is NASCAR STOCKCAR MODEL BUILDERS ON FACEBOOK.
  22. I think the hobby is far from dead. The Hobbytown USA in Cincinnati recently decreased the amount of space devoted to cars and increased the space for Gundam kits. They are selling lots of them, and it is to a younger crowd. Gundam may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's still model building, and I think we all know that for many of us, the kits you like are just the gateway drug to the hobby. Ironically, when I got back into the hobby around 1987-88, it was because I found some cheap Revell Robotech kits at KB Toys. They just looked like they would be fun to put together. I quickly went back to cars and over time, deviated to planes and armor. I think that if Gundam pulls them in, many of them will branch out over time.
  23. I have a friend who found the Union kit of the Porsche 917K with Martini markings, but it's missing the instructions. I checked 1999.co.jp to see if I could get a scan there, but no luck. I also checked the Model Instructions Database, but they only had sheets for the Fujimi 917Ks. Does anyone have these and would they be able to scan them in? Let me know. Thanks!
  24. Which Ollie's did you find the truck kits at? I checked one here in Cincinnati and it was mainly Lindberg kits and AMT cars. No trucks.
