  1. Thanks guys. Chris - yup, looking forward to working in brass. I'm not sure I have the right soldering gun/iron for this. Time will tell. TOM - I'VE USED ILLUSTRATOR BACK WHEN IT WAS FIRST INTRODUCED. I'VE NOT WORKED WITH COREL AND HAVE NEVER HEARD OF GIMP OR THE OTHER ONE YOU MENTIONED, I'VE ALWAYS HAD ILLUSTRATOR AND GET JUST ABOUT ANYTHING DONE I WANT TO WITH IT. I ALSO USED TO TEACH IT AT A COLLEGE LEVEL. James - Having been a graphic artist and illustrator since leaving art school in 1978, I've been in the industry a while. Have worked in sign shops, silk screening, pre-press departments, art departments and the like until I started teaching in 1988. First started teaching Graphic Arts (preparing art for printing) which is now obsolete since it can all be done on the computer. Have taught design (2 and 3d), illustration, rendering, layout, portfolio prep, typography, advertising design and a host of others. I really enjoyed teaching immensely but my first day I was bigtime nervous. Gerald - My source is me. I created the artwork, size it and then send it via email attachment to Chief Joseph here on MCM Forums of Fireball Modelworks. He has the best results, quick turnaround time and best prices I've encountered. I'll continue to use his services exclusively. I'll send you a PM here in a moment. Gotta run to the LHS for some Zap-A-Gap.
  2. Chris - thanks for your interest. I'm just about done adding things. I need to finish off the base edges and call it done. Danno - thanks for accolades. I love those Builder's Choice nights. LOL Terry - thanks for following along.
  3. Thanks James. I used Adobe Illustrator for rendering the artwork. I love that program and seem to look at objects and graphics and think about how I would render them. I'm seriously addicted.
  4. Yesterday, I picked up a Miss Deal kit for the Chrysler Fire Power Hemi and a few other components along with some tubular brass. Progress continues.
  5. Hi guys - when I first saw the posted photo, I just knew I'd have to build this little known altered. Currently, I'm collecting all of the parts needed and will try my hand at making the tubular chassis out of brass, something new for me. I've found a few photos on the innerweb but there aren't many. I'll have to improvise on a few things but no big deal. The original car is being rebuilt and I've sent the builder a PM on the HAMB site so we'll see what happens. Onto the picture. Stay tuned and thanks for following along. Comments welcome and encouraged.
  6. Pat - the program i use is Adobe Illustrator and in this case, using a photo as a template. The background color is just for viewing only. It will be white, yellow with a bit of magenta mixed in with the yellow just as shown without the reddish color in the background. Chris - thanks. I'm going to start my own thread on my Walt's Puffer Too build soon. I'm still acquiring my goodies too.
  7. Ok, the decal artwork is done and will be ready to send off to Joseph at Fireball in the near future. Any progress on your end Dan?
  8. Nice build. I like the AWB cars too.
  9. That is a great pic Gregg. That will really help with the decals, Thanks.
  10. Well, Pat, get your mojo back and please continue with this build. I'm almost done with the decal artwork. I'd love if you could share some of the visual reference you have for this as I'm about to jump in on mine. What color is the type on the body and what else needs to be on the decal sheet for this? All I have at the moment for reference is the b/w photo you posted.
  11. Excellent update Scott. All of these little details are just what I like to see.
  12. Any updates on this epic build? This is next on my workbench so I should have the decal artwork done soon.
  13. Very, very nice work Tom.
  14. These are really cool. If you were depicting a scale life drawing class, at least you'd have all of the models. Where in the world did you find these guys?
  15. Much better Chris. Its always something on these builds and its the determined modeler who sees them as opportunities and not setbacks. Really liking those breather bases.
  16. Any more updates on this "Old Master"? One of my favorite FED and I'd really like to see this progressing.
  17. You haven't missed a beat after being away for awhile. Both of these look great.
  18. You know what I meant. I knew the Head Hunter was done, its just so confusing when you build two magical creations at the same time.
  19. Johnny...Oh Johnny.....Wherefore art thou?......Its been over a week since you updated us with some progress....oh Johnny...I've got a serious case of Head Hunter and you've got the cure...
  20. Now that is cool. A lot of thought has gone into this. The raised platform outside the office could use a wooden bench and a trash can.
  21. Really looking forward to it. On another note: how's about attending the Moonlight Modelers meeting tomorrow night? Its in Gilbert.
  22. I saw this in one of the magazines and liked it then. Love it even more to see all of the work involved. Also love the fact you followed the NHRA rules of the time. Excellent.
  23. I must have been hiding under a rock as I've completely missed this build of yours Dave. Outstanding in every way. I've always been a fan of your work and to see one during the build stage is even better. A How-To on the machining would be most appreciated.
  24. Friggin' decadent John. This is over-the-top in every way. That paint looks good enough to lick.
