Very nice! I'm a little surprised not to see a 12V71 under that hood, but then again, after seeing that Peterbilt 352 of your's... I can see you have a soft spot for Clatterpillar too! I like that trailer too, where do the trailer wheels come from? They're not from that kit are they? Very nice rig you have there!

Hessel, either you have an excellent sense of of observation or you have an engineering background! This is looking super sharp! That suspension setup is really nice. -

Patience Grasshopper! It will come! Actually I just finished a nice flatbed for it. I still have to make some decals for the door logos. I'm also still deciding on wether to use the Revell grab handles or not (only one set and have two K100 trucks...) -

Very nice Mack, Mike! Good use of the dump trailer body. I like the chains you used on the rear door and on the pintle, quite realistic. -

what trailer kit do you wanna se reissued
BigBad replied to blazefox's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Actually, it's pretty easy to get something very similar to the East flatbed you're showing. Get two AMT fruehauf flatbeds and cut them up the correct lenght and cut the suspension from each and you get a 48 or 53 foot spread axle . It's so easy, Mickey Mouse could do it! You even have the choice of spread! I made one, so yeah, it is that easy. Got the instructions from the internet site that most people here know about... No not Tim's, the other one. But I'd go for that gooseneck anyday! Oh and for the topic here, I'd like to see the Michigan type dumper trailer that revell had some years back. Or any one of those 6 axle trailers they had out. The auto carrier was also sweet. -
International Prostar by Revell
BigBad replied to Hessel's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Getting nicer and nicer Hessel! I like your fleet paint scheme. It's funny, 'cause the first guy to build one run of the mill Prostar comes not from North America but Europe and I include myself not having started mine! Nice job man! -
I have a couple of their detroit engines and while nobody else offers a 12V92... Their castings a little rough and need more work to prepare, I'm sure to get a good result but I wouldn't recommend those for a first time build with resin. I have put together the twin turbo V12 from AITM which is pretty much the old Super Boss engine and builds quite well. I believe it would be easy to leave off the turbos if need be.

Pretty smart actually, but if you don't have a parts box and you are actually using your 2 stoke DD's in your builds... Unless you cast them yourself, even that solution will have its limits. As it is, the only kits with the 8V71 or any other 2 stroke Detroits are the Chevy Titan and the Peterbilt 352. So stock up if you like screamin' Jimmies. There are not many styrene iterations going around anymore.

Thanks for the kind words Jim! (and to all others for that matter!) I am very happy about all the aftermarket parts that I used for this build, they are easy to work with, are of excellent quality and set off the truck in a great way. Excellent credits go to KFS and Auslowe resin parts as their castings are of high quality. I really like the metal parts, either machined or the photo etch, as KFS and MCA did an excellent job of reproducing very realistic and almost jewel like products. I highly recommend them. -
White Freightliner COE
BigBad replied to Gimlet6's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
You chose... Fun colors for this truck! I like it! Sort of a mix between a small fleet truck /owner-operator/ hotrod color combo. Way cool. I like the toning down of most chrome parts you've done, those look good too. For the picture taking of real trucks, be upfront with why you're taking pictures (ask first though, if the driver is around...) and just bring pictures of the model you're finishing or planning to weather and you'll most likely get them interested as well because, face it, a truck is a trucker's favorite subject after women, usually... Sometimes that is reversed too. Give it a try! -
LoneStar with Flames and Beall tanker
BigBad replied to Mopar - D's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
In real life, the super singles are not as wide as dual tires. You surely have also noticed, the rims obviuously aren't the same either as they have to accomodate the wide tires and the face of the wheel isn't the same either, (not as deep and the angle of the 'cone' is shallower) . But, at this scale, for the sake of saving some parts from the actual kits, these were made to fit the kit dual wheels. In a perfect scale world, somebody would have made the tires the right width along with the correct rims to go with them. (Hint, hint resin casters...) So yes the real tires aren't as wide as these, but they still look pretty awesome in a hot roddish way... My 2 cents. -
This is going to be one cool looking Poncho! Your wheels are really nice. I used to see all those Pontiacs with all sizes of those Rallye II wheels, Hated them at the time, they were all over the place. But now, I kinda like them quite a bit. Same thing for the Corvette type rally wheel!

Revell Germany Peterbilt tires
BigBad replied to Mr mopar's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yes it does, but I mentioned the International being able to steer as well because what you could do is swap out the whole axle assemblies, front and back altogether so you don't have the hassle of fitting the wheels to the axles. Makes things a little simpler. If they fit correctly of course. I'm planning to use those axles on the Chevy Titan I'll build later. I'm really into models that have functional steering. Cheaper option I guess. And you don't lose that functionality. -
Revell Germany Peterbilt tires
BigBad replied to Mr mopar's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Here's a stretch: If you already have it, take a look at the AMT International 4300, It has (better) wheels than the Peterbilt, front and back and also has a steering front axle that you could use on your truck. I bought 3 of those kits only for the steering axle and the rims to install on other 1:25 scale trucks!
