Mack cruiseliner "Love Machine"
BigBad replied to White7000's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Ok! So Denis, you are actually working on a truck quite similar to the Hyper detailed one Sergey is working on! Got me fooled for a moment! -

By the way, come to think of it, I built quite a few of these trucks in my younger days. I remember building a custom Astro with a 16V-71 out of 2 8V71's! That's before seeing the engine in the International PayHauler! And it turned out I wasn't that far off , I should have used two air cleaner units though, that would have looked mean! Ok, now back to the serious stuff... -
Chevy Titan 90 (WIP)

This truck is coming along nicely, great color combo. Just a tip here, stock, the kit mounts for the cab make it sit way too high. The rear cab mounts should be shortened about 1/8 of an inch (or whatever looks good to you (mock up your cab before doing mods), but the chrome cab step right below the driver or passenger door should sit just a little higher than the front tire, but it's almost flush at tire height) The front cab pivots should be glued higher up on the cab the same amount. Also the transmission shifter mount should be shortened 1/8". You might want to mount the front grill flush with the body if you want the cab to tilt properly to show the mechanicals, check the fit of the air filter tubing to the engine blower for clearance as well doing this... Anyway, have a look at some GMC Astro or Chevy Titan pictures on Hank's truck site for reference. Of course this is only a suggestion, what you do with it is up to you. Keep at it man, it makes a change from the Kenworths and Peterbilts... -

That is one very nice build, great paint job, very complex! Looks like the real truck! Yes please show how you made the doors to open if you can. -
Yes they do, mostly Manac trailers though. The Moebius trailer might look a bit small for 1:24 though but it sure will be nice for a 1:25 scale rig. By the way these days I am building a proper dry van for this Volvo, stay tuned. Box is finished, I have given it two coats of yellow. Next is the silver (aluminum) trim, corners and moldings. Then completing the suspension... What a mess! This kit is not complete from the factory! Had to build channels for the assembly to slide back and forth on the rails... Another thing I have to decide: 2 or 3 axles? I' ll have to cut the tandem and spread the three axles if I do. It would look darn cool! Another thing I want to add, the aero skirts at the bottom. Still some ways to go . I'll post pics when I get it to an interesting stage. Thanks for the nice comments guys!

Classy two tone you have there. By the way, are the wheels aluminum, I don't see the nuts with the studs. I like the traction tires out back, Neeto! -

Pretty classy in white. Where did you get the chicken lights?? -
GMC Astro 95
BigBad replied to txdieseldog's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
You're so right! I would have seen a nice Detroit V12 with the dual air snorkels in those Freightliner kits, Why didn't they think of that? Anyway I was kidding about the Astro, it's gonna look pretty funky this way. And besides, most of them get built with the kit engine, so the more to ya, Barry! For all I'm concerned, you could even fit some 5 hole bud wheels under that thing and it would be even more fleet looking! -
GMC Astro 95
BigBad replied to txdieseldog's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Yep, you can do whatever you like in this hobby, ain't that fun? You can even do a "what if" phantom truck of whatever company you like! A normally aspirated Cummins in an Astro is a bit much for me , but keep at it! Looking good up to now! -
Need HELP or advise
BigBad replied to txdieseldog's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Thought of trying car wax and polish that windshield? Use one that is not abrasive. -
That's a nice comment! As a matter of fact people here are uncommonly friendly. It feels like you're in a shop where everybody wants everybody to succeed in their work! Advice, encouragement, congratulations, they just flow! Great builds, little details, simple trucks, complex electricals, trucks that light up or open up all doors, suspensions that work... This is a great community! It's just not like that site where all kinds of homemade movies are shown... Lotsa bitchin' goin'on there... So anyways, Happy holidays to you Barry and all of you other guys too!

Mack Superliner
BigBad replied to MoparWoman Jamie's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Wow! You're making a meal out of this Mack! I like everything about it already. Thanks for showing the door hinges, that is going to help me on future builds. This project is going to get more and more interesting... It's ovious you have a plan for this, have you decided on colors for the cab and frame yet? Just curious! Outstanding work up to now... I have seen the start of this build before, you enlarged the sleeper cab to fit the 1:24 scale driver's cab, I think this will have real aluminum wheels from KFS also, am I mistaking? -

Guys I'm a fan of these trucks, can't wait to see what you are going to do with them... Nice wheels by the way Brian! Keeping the old DD8V-71? -

Man... Does this rig look good or what? I can understand people who don't particularly like the Lonestar. But look at this picture... With that beautiful trailer, now it sure looks right. This is going to look good with my favorite Prostar too or any other modern 1:25 scale truck. Oh wait, there is none (not counting the 1:24 scale ones)! Great shot Moebius, keep em comin'! -

Beautiful, just beautiful... This is going to be a great addition to truck modeling, Even at this stage it looks right, good proportions, great stance! It's a reefer too! Panels are 1 piece, just like the AMT 40 foot Fruehauf. No ugly seems down the middle of that trailer!... Can't wait man. I am a Moebius fan now! I'll get the 2 hole buds for this baby and the aero skirts too, Another axle? Why not, it is going to be the right size. This is great! Thanks for sharing this bit of info Dave! -
The Moebius Lonestar

Now THAT is great news! 1 piece parts... I was dreaming of that when building my Italeri dry van... Got that ugly seam down the sides. Thanks Moebius!!!! -

BigBad replied to Scalper's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Still a good catch Andre! Like I said, I'll be watching this one! Keeping the Claterpillar? I'm going to build mine with an AITM Detroit 12V71and a Seminole paint scheme. I've seen too many on youtube, got to make one! -

BigBad replied to Scalper's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Alrighty, I'll be watching this up close since I have one of those kits waiting for it's turn on the bench. Thought you were getting the K123? Changed your mind? -
So her beauty is not only on the outside huh? Happy birthday man! By the way, I have built the revell K100 way back when the kit was in the "trucks of the world" series. That was one of the best kits I have put together. Nice quality overall, rare features for the time and even for today, steerable front axle, opening cab doors, real rubber tires, metal chains, vinyl hose... They should re-issue this kit in any form! I have not tried the AMT yet, but Tim Ahlborn built one some months (others did too..) back and it looks pretty nice.

Good colors! I like the suspension air bag details. Put together correctly, these Revell kits make great replicas. This one is off to a really good start. -
