  1. Sorry about the "snap" thing Brian, didn't mean to minimize the work you put on it, it really looks great! Also, from what I see in your avatar, we have another common interest... I drive a '97 Z28!
  2. This is a great hobby! To see people coming back to it after so many years is great! Reading about it here only makes it better.
  3. Dave, that is one nice old Pete replica! i like everything about it, the functional beam rear suspension, the poseable front axle, that butterfly hood, opening cab doors, the carpet on the cab floor, the hinged mudflaps, the Detroit 8V71... Thanks for the pictorial, that is useful. I like the scale look of those hinges, it's perfect. I need to buy myself some more patience first! Haha! Seriously the door hinges are great, I am going to try them out. You also gave me an idea about rotating KFS wheels on my next Italeri builds... Thanks man!
  4. I ve had my doubts about these hinges until you posted this. Do you have pictures of these before bending and after? That would surely convince me.
  5. You might be starting a trend here... After that why not a Ford C-cab with a supercharged 5.4 from a Shelby GT500?
  6. Hey don't worry about it, we see all kinds of Chevy small and big blocks in Ford hot-rods!! It's been like that since they first put the small block 265 in production in 1955 and it's going to be like that until there's no more Chevy V8's left!! ;o)
  7. So apparently, not everybody hates the looks...
  8. Hmmmmmm, I beg to differ... This is a Detroit 8V71, not a Cat 3208, notice the valve cover shape, the valve covers on the Cat are scalloped near the exhaust manifold. The valve covers on Detroit 2 stroke diesels such as this one are straight and rounded off at the edges, they also have 2 big bolts on top of each cover. Sorry to disapoint...
  9. And to think some people hate the Lonestar... This one takes the ugly stick a little far. By the way, CCC (Crane Carrier Corp) used to have a similar cab arrangement for cement mixers, way back in the 70's. They looked a little better than this, though.
  10. They do look good, don't they! They'd make a Peterbilt or any other truck look even better... Let's go contact Howard at KFS!
  11. Thanks Mark! Don't worry about the pics, I have seen some examples already. I guess I'll have to reason myself about "static" models, because most of the resin units are also cast as one piece also. But these wheels will get your attention once they are on a model! As are the other metal parts such as aluminum fuel tanks, ( I got a set, they are beautiful!) air cleaners, rear fenders and stainless bumpers and so on. So thanks for the insight! Have you used them already? Maybe you're waiting for the right "subject"?
  12. Hi guys, I'm considering buying the aluminum wheels that KFS sells for 1:24 scale Italeri truck kits. So here goes, how do these wheels mount onto the truck axles? Do these wheels mount just like the original Italeri kit wheels? I suspect the front ones do. The rears, I'm not sure of. I like rotating wheels on my trucks and trailers, so it matters to me. Any issues with oxydation from the steel nuts and bolts with the aluminum wheels? I have seen issues with this before on another forum. Do the bolt heads interfere with the brake drums? I have seen them on show truck before and they look great. There are lots of questions here, but before plunking over 100 british pounds on those I'd like to know if they are worth it. Thanks!
  13. Black and chrome, can't beat that classic look. I like the shorty exhaust stacks! Makes it look mean...
  14. I say, let's just get what's been announced and then see what happens. It's already pretty exciting that Moebius is offering these kits. I have never heard of these guys until they announced they would make the Lonestar. Now, out of the blue, we have a high quality kit we can enjoy and they are announcing another similar truck kit and to top it off they announce a nice up to date 53 foot reefer, no less! I call that company a new very important player in the model truck field. Let's see what the others have in store! Are we witnessing a revival of the heavy truck hobby? I think so.
  15. Wow man, those look really good! How much for a full set?
  16. Ah yes! This is a nice departure from the Kenworths and Peterbilts. Nice to see an old (now rare in any form) classic 5 star GMC. With a Detroit, no less. I like the detailing on that engine, good transmission color too. Can't wait to see the rest of it, keep us posted!
  17. Hey don't worry about the day cab thing user "Cargostar" has that covered!
  18. A Prostar! Yes, yes yes YES! The Lonestar is pretty nice and bold but the Prostar is great, love the smooth styling. With a 53 foot reefer, My heart flutters... Now the waiting, sooooo excited... Let's see now, we probably will get the Prostar around May next year like we got the Lonestar this year, unless some of the engineering is going to come off the Lonestar, so it might take a bit less. Then we wait for that trailer! Now something has to be said of Navistar. At the very least they are aware that this is a form of advertising. Having them cooperate with Moebius to engineer models of their trucks is really nice. Just as they did with Ertl in the '70s. This is kinda neat they do it again with Moebius. Anyhow this is great news!
  19. YEEEEEEHAAAAAW! Hey Moebius, I knew you'd get trough! GREAT! Both models!!!!! Three cheers for these guys! Thanks for letting us know Dave!
  20. Wow! Scott, these are beyond awesome! Can't believe the details you put on and IN these trailers, you obviously know your way around them. Thanks for sharing these, we don't see many trailers as detailed as your's. I'm not quite as motivated yet, but for next builds I am going to consider your work. I like the insides of the pups, what did you use as scale "plywood", I'd say balsa, but I could be wrong. Great job! The weathering on the wood of that flatbed is great, looks real, I like the tri-axle layout too. That lowboy is very nicely done. Impressive work. I am going to continue on my 48 foot Italerei this week-end. Since I am not too familiar with this kit I won't do much interior detailing 'cause I don't think I'll make it open. But I have another one waiting in the wings. That one will get better treatment... Keep you posted guys, Thanks!
  21. Darn, this is getting as exciting as Moebius announcements! You're doing a great job on those parts Dave!
  22. So, we CAN make a decent replica out of these Snap models after all! NICE! I really like the door details on that trailer. A black and chrome rig is always an eye catcher. Good job!
  23. Yes we are. Unlike car models, newly tooled truck models are few and far between, So anything new is really exciting to learn about, especially if the manufacturer is as serious about the accuracy of their products and on a roll such as Moebius.
  24. Mark, I was wondering what to do myself with the new KFS wheels I just got. They do not have provisions for rotating wheels, the ones I got are for static only. Unless you get creative. Cause I suppose that, like me you like your models to be... Able to roll a little bit, You know, it must be a grown-up kid thing. I have been looking at the Italeri rear wheel hubs and think they are definitely too long. By shortening them you get something that looks better but you have to shorten the axle as well and probably cut the provision for the retaining ring that sits on top of the inner ring hub. So maybe when you cut the inner wheel hub down, cut the axle as well but leave some material to "heat swage" the axle shaft at the end of the inner wheel hub end. So you end up with rolling stock even with shorter axles and hubs. Remember to leave enough material on the axle for when you are going to melt it down a bit with the swaging. I haven't tried it yet, but I think it's a viable option for shorter hubs and aftermarket hubs that are not hollowed out or without provisions for a long axle. Just my two cents.
