1:24 scale 48 foot tri-axle dry van
BigBad replied to BigBad's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Ok then, now I know they're like "bodyside mouldings" we used to have on cars to prevent damage! Thanks for the enlightenment Scott. I also noticed that there weren't any huge backbone frame elements as on flatbeds. Sort of a unit-body. Thanks Scott! -

Wow! Havan't seen one of those in ages! Nice truck! That's not the one that had a dump body is it? Nice colors. Nothing like spoke wheels to make a truck look tough and business like. -

What info do you need Joe? -
Alright guys, these are some pictures from a kit I have gotten a while ago from AITM. It's a Detroit Diesel 12V71 twin turbo. I think it looks promissing and I think it's going to look mean under the hood of my Revell W900! No, it's not built yet, it's still in pieces. Here goes: Not many parts, but I think the results are going to be greater than the sum of it's parts, besides, I like this better than cutting up two 8V71's or kit bashing the old Bandag drag Kenworth kits: And another angle: Uploaded with ImageShack.us I'm not when I'm going to start on this one just yet, but I wanted others to have a look at this kit to have a an idea what to expect. These kits do not include a transmission so think of that when ordering these kits. These are not shown on the home page at AITM, you have to look at the complete price list, The link: http://aitruckmodels...talog4_2011.pdf They have a ton of other interesting parts on there.

2011 pete 388
BigBad replied to scale trucker's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Off to a good start! I'll be watching this with interest, I have similar parts for a 389. How did the cab parts go together, any issues? I suspect the resin parts are excellent, but just to be sure. I like your aluminum fenders too, this should be a good lookin' build. -

Moebius is on a roll, you never know. Remember Ertl, they modeled almost everything International Harvester at the time... Here's hoping! -

Well sorted rig, nice clean build, love that trailer. One cool display, well done job! Thanks for showing this piece. -
Your custom Freight is coming along pretty nicely! Are those Italeri tires on AMT rims I see there, they seem to fit together well. Do you have a paint scheme in mind for the whole rig? About those styrene sheets, have you managed to get long and wide enough pieces to make panels 1 part for the sides and roof? Are there styrene sheets that are more than 24 inches long and 5 inches wide on the hobby market? Next time I make a trailer either from scratch or a modified kit I'd like to make it a smooth side. That's why I'm asking. Happy holidays to you too!

Italeri has a near right size trailer for 1:25 scale trucks. It's only correct in scale 1:24 for length and width, not for height. I'm working on one right now and had to modify the height by about a quarter inch to make it stand at 13'6". That was a lot of work and cutting... But for 1:25th scale it looks ok as it's shown in the picture shown higher up this topic.

Great effort for a first class 8 truck! Nice paint job. Like it as a day cab.

You clear between colors? I didn't know about that little bit of info. is it so the next color doesn't seep under the tape? If so, do you have to cut around the tape (so you don't lift the clearcoat along with it) once the whole job is done? -
International Lonestar, have you ever seen one?
BigBad replied to kenb's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
EXACTLY, THAT IS what it looks like! Haha! They're not all over the place near Montreal Qc but I see them once in a while. -

Great looking Titan, Brian! black and red is a classic. I like the fact that you kept the Dayton spoke wheels on it. They used to be on every other truck at the time. Now, once in a while you'll see an odd truck with them. They looked good! Your cab height looks good too. Nice build. -

I really like the metallic orange you put in there, it really picks up the "root beer" brown! I used root beer and a sand colored beige on my Freightliner coe and used another darker beige tone in there, and it does not stand out as nicely as your Pete. Good job on that paint man! Nice clean cut lines. -
making lonestar day cab
BigBad replied to dabelltoller's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Just buy the daycab off Dave, It's really not expensive and it's going to save you a LOT of work. His cab has the roof detail and rear panel detail that is actually pretty intricate . I have one of his daycabs, it's nice. Give him a nudge. -

I have never seen another trailer detailed to the bone as these. Gotta love the wooden detailing. Like Dr.Cranky said, eye candy comes to mind. Is the Mack going to pull these little "Pup"pies?? Hehehe... -

Came out pretty nicely James. What were the issues with the cab? TONS of chrome on this thing! I like the detailing of this kit. -

A 110 inch cab is a natural on these trucks, too bad GM didn't do any. I like your truck, it's very well thought out and well put together. I like the 2 hole budds in the back. Did that front axle come out of the Transtar 4300? The front wheels sure are similar. I was planning to install that axle on my Titan. You should show us more, start another topic! -

Well, if the 352 is not going to come back, how about a nice big windshield and 3 wiper 362??
