Revell is reissuing the 'Can-Do' (Steeps) tow truck...
martinfan5 replied to Mr mopar's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Thats what I was thinking too, talk about an expensive project though -
I have used Duplicolor , Testors, Mr Hobby clears all with out problems over SF paint , you can use any primer as well. If you do light mist coats of the clear over the enamels, you should be ok, but I would do a test first I have no idea for the dry time on his enamels, I have not used those yet Yes, Brett is correct about getting what he has on sale, but you never know, try sending him an email and ask him, he is a great guy to deal with

should and it actually passing are two different things, and they also say that it might not as pass, just like another bill that goes before the house, but this is cutting it very close to that line of talking politics, so we should leave it at that. -

I agree with that 100%, but what you guys to want to realize is that not every one here as access to those LHS, some of us are stuck with LHS that only carry current stuff, and only want to help you if you are buying R/C stuff, and if dont even think about trying to talk about plastic models, I would love to have some the LHS that you guys have in my area, and I would probably feel the same that you guys do, but we dont here , well we have one, but its not right around the corner for some us in the valley -

I want to add, not every LHS has that friendly helpful old guy running the place, ours sure as hell dont, dont get me wrong, the guys that work in our LHS are for the most part friendly, they are only working the R/C stuff, they only carry the whats currently offered kit wise, the marks up are huge , tell you this for the price of a Japanese kit at the LHS, I can buy it online, and even after shipping, still have saved at least $10-15. On Domestic kits, the savings would be around $5-$10, just depending on where its bought at online This is not a attack on the LHS, its just how it is for me in my area, now, we do have one LHS that is good, but for me its a 40 mile each way trip, not making it worth while to go to all the time -

Never said it was perfect, or good, yes, customer service is dying, its not good, that is just one of the many problems the business world faces, there is not easy answer My comment was more about brick and motor stores, then customer service -

I buy all my kits online, why, even with shipping is still cheaper then buying from my LHS, period I buy all my paints and other supplies 98% of the time at the LHS, its cheaper then online -

Bad customer service is bad for business, plain and simple, more so in this day and age when the customer has more then one option -
Bill, why dont you use a plastic safe primer?. it sounds like you have been well aware of the plastic formula Revell is using is not strong enough to handle hot automotive primers, I completely understand why we chose, or like to use automotive primers and paints on our builds. I no longer even think about using duplicolor/plaskticote primers on any of the new plastic formula's, I know better now, maybe its time to switch to plastic safe primer?, We can complain about it about tell the cows come home and cook us dinner , or use a plastic safe primer

How can I buy Revell enamel paints?
martinfan5 replied to Monty's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Learned something new, so Revell paint is basically Humbrol paint? -
I have ruined to many bodys using Automotive primer, from both Revell and Fujimi/Aoshima/Tamiya, so its Tamiya primer for new kits (2006-current year), I would rather spend the more to get less and not etch a body, after spending $25 to replace just a body, its just not wroth taking the risk anymore. I would love to go back to using automotive primer, more bang for the buck Same thing happened to me on the Revells 2010 Camaro kit/ Audi kit , but I never etched any of the Mustangs kits I built using Dupliclolor primer, but I was using their high build primer(dont ask me why), and no etching or crazing on those

How can I buy Revell enamel paints?
martinfan5 replied to Monty's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Here are few places, but none seem to be in the US, Revell paint is not marketed for the US, so you have to import it ,or check out the last link which is a Humbrol conversion chart for Revell paint http://www.modelzone.co.uk/model-kits/paints/revell-paints.html http://www.ebay.co.uk/bhp/revell-paint http://www.wonderlandmodels.com/paints-glues/revell/enamel/ http://www.brunelhobbies.com.au/revell/RevellPaints.htm http://www.humbrol.com/convert-to-humbrol/conversion-tables/ -

martinfan5 replied to Mr mopar's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
The Steeps Can-Do is no longer apart of the kit, it still has the same decals, just missing all the company logos and names, go to the 2:13 mark and you will see it I wonder what this is going to do to the price's this is bringing in on ebay for this kit -
