  1. I just shot the paint on this today. Tamiya white and red to make pink with PPG clear and Ultra-Violet pearl powder mixed in. I will shoot the top in pearl white and Alclad on all the chrome. Decals are coming soon. Of course it will be a kit available in a few weeks depending on my decal guy fixing his Alps!
  2. You basically have it covered there. There are 2 Hub locations. The few other shops are Hobbytowns and not too exciting. Hub and Scale Model Supplies are both really, really good places to satisfy your hobby needs. We really don't need anything else.
  3. I am kind of slow to catch on to some of the slick features like " view new posts" so I always have scrolled past the long line of stickies for stuff like GSL Hotel info, etc., much of which is obsolete. Old dogs can learn new tricks.
  4. I will save that link for later perusal, Thanks! By the way Bill you can probably use some of the engine parts from the Sand Crab, L'il Van kit if you ever do attempt that car. They put a Type 3 engine in that kit for some odd reason.
  5. The new awesome emoticons are totally worth it, dude!!! but I don't like that it limits the number I can plaster on! Checking out picture upload also!
  6. That looks great. You definitely have your own style of building which is unique and the results are beautiful. You can do nice paint and bad paint! On purpose!
  7. Your conversions look really nice, Darin. If you get the bug to do some Porsches, give me a holler and I will cast those!
  8. Darin, I did not know you were Don Thuene's photographer also! I thought the backdrop and silver paint looked familiar. :?
  9. Another pitfall to watch out for is using different kinds of paints which may subsequently separate. Urethane over lacquer will be a problem. Sometimes a harder paint over brittle paint like lacquer will separate and come off in patches like old Ford Taurus' from the 80s! My advice is a good tough enamel and plan on a final polishing when assembly is complete. Flex is probably the critical quality you need. David's choice of Krylon Fusion is a good one. I would use any Krylon enamel or even Rustoleum decanted and airbrushed. Done right they are shiny as can be also.
  10. What do you mean by a lot of handling? The toughest would be the Urethane that Marc mentioned but it all depends on how well your paint grips the model itself.
  11. Jimmy did a 60 Olds hardtop. Don't know about the 61.
  12. Would the Jo-Han Rambler American guts work under the AMX? It doesn't have the molded in detail like the AMXs. I don't know how accurate it is myself.
  13. The Heller/Union P4 kit is a bad joke and the engine is worse. Like the 917 they are approximations of the original. The pattern maker was not even looking at the actual engines and made up details himself. I would rather go curbside than attempt to do anything with those lumps! Island Collectibles will soon have their resin 330 P3 available which has an open top. You can make Dino Martin's street P4 from this kit. It was Fly Yellow with NART blue wheels on it with 4 glasspack mufflers!
  14. Bill's work area is a classic example of not needing anything elaborate to produce some of the finest models on the planet! My question is this. Is the hammer on the left side of the first pic for assembling the Pocher Mercedes?
  15. Welcome back to the hobby! Airbrush is the way to go and it looks like you are on the way! 8)
  16. I like tidy work areas. I must do that some day! By the way, where do you put your legs while model building at your bench?
  17. You could always try those really sweet machined valve stems from RB Motion! 8)
  18. Agree with Jairus! Maybe  fill in side window to make it a Carson style top?
  19. That is a great looking model. I like the simplicity of it versus the full-on show low riders. 8)
  20. That 55 is a riot! I dreamed of building models jacked up that high back in my early teens (early70s). Roadster looks great, too!
  21. The old Revell parts pack decals were really cool too. They had some markings that never appeared anywhere else. The neat thing about the Revell 70s sheets is that they also had some unique decals like the Juicebox. Ah! memories!
  22. Awesome Vespa, Ismael! Vespas are very cool along with lots of other scooters. Here are a few pics of some of the scoots in my collection. The bigger one is the 1/12 IMAI kit which is excellent, by the way. The gray one is a toy I found at a swapmeet which I painted. The Tamiyas I built when they came out! I had to have one chromed!
