  1. The rims look good. I like the 2-tone paint. The car may need an accent stripe or graphics in a warm or hot color like red or orange. That would make what you have already done look even better. The interior would look a little dull in black unless it had bright accents like the carpet or door panels. Great job - keep up the good work!
  2. I don't have the mag any longer but remember the Terry Gilliam cartoon. It was pretty well drawn and I believe it was his drawings. Sorry!
  3. Jairus, Do you have the CarToons with the Terry Gilliam cartoon, "The sports car of Dorian Gray"?
  4. I took these pics in a store on Waikiki Beach about 2 1/2 years ago. Hopefully your last meal will stay down!
  5. 72 914-4. Next year it will have a 73 2.0 and a set of Fuchs alloys installed. Have a pair of Webers for it also.
  6. Ismael, Don't go over to the Dark Side! Cool subjects, though!
  7. I think my first model was an Airfix 1/32 VW Beetle. I brush painted it yellow and put race numbers and lots of decals on it. My dad built models and I took to it like a duck to water. I briefly quit building scale models when I got my license and started building 1/1. That didn't go well and went back to plastic about 4 years later. My fondest model car memory ( pre-adulthood) was winning 1st Senior at the 1973 MPC contest at the St. Paul ISCA car show.I was just turned 16 years old. I still have the model but foolishly threw out the trophy about 20 some years ago. Ten years later I was helping re-establish a model car contest at the same venue. Here are pics of my first contest winner! It's an IMC Beetle turned into an NHRA gas class car. Perhaps I will build a clone of that model with my present skills at age 50!
  8. I thought I would test my image skills here. This is a scan from a centerspread from Oct. 65 Modern Rod which was the precursor mag to Drag Racing USA. Enjoy! This car had it's rear axle moved forward and injectors added later in the season.
  9. Yes the MPC 32 Chevy roadster was a decent kit. Rarer is the 32 panel delivery . Amt also did the 37 as a convert. Don't forget the Monogram 39 Chev Coupe and Sedan Delivery. They came as street rods but can made stock with either AMT 37 or galaxie 47 parts. All but the 32 Panel are relatively easy to find on E-bay or at swap meets.
  10. Modern Urethane resins have almost zero shrinkage. I have measured castings against masters and had to use a caliper to find even a few thousandths shrinkage. I can't vouch for some of the cheezy resins out there, though.
  11. Very cool! Tamiya bike kits are so much fun. I have to get back to them. Great job, Dan!
  12. I guess I am a pretty sad case! Model cars sort of affected my career choice since my career has been producing and selling resin model cars except for a 10 year hiatus spent as a machinist. I am pretty much unemployable now so it worked out well!
  13. Ebay! There are a bunch listed right now including 917s, Packard, MGTC, Aston Ulster, Jag SS-100, etc. The newish Revell 1/32 Porsche 935 Jagermeister kit is originally a Matchbox kit. The AMT 1/32 917/10s are also Matchbox. Good luck.
  14. Hey Mike! Looks great! Will you be able to make it to the NNL on the 9th in Bloomington? Take care.
  15. Welcome! Nice to have more good model builders on the forum!
  16. My vote is for retro. It's easier to do, looks cooler, and actually fits the car better. very cool project by the way.
  17. What kind of engine, Paul? There are a zillion (well, maybe dozens!) of them. All of the Matchbox kits had good engines from Porsche 917, 935 to Rolls Phantom! Monogram did some funny cars about 15 years ago with good top fuel motors. The already mentioned Revell Ford and Cadillac kits have stock V8s. The old Pyro Brass series have antique inline 6 and 4 inline engines. The hot rod kits from Aurora, Pyro, and lindberg have low levels of detail but can be brought to life.
  18. Oh No! I was hoping to build something killer to compete for the big one out there in 2009 but with Bill setting his sights on it it may not be possible! I will simply have to try harder. I had a great time meeting and talking with everyone that I got to meet and talk with. I missed some of you guys but I hope to rectify that in the future.
  19. I use Silicones Inc. GI-1000. It is sold all over the country and is the rubber of choice for most resin casters. It is durable, flexible. Try agoogle search for suppliers or look in the yellow pages for foundry or pattern making supply houses. My local distributor packs it in 10# and 50# kits. A 10# will give you enough rubber for two average size bodies or 1 body and molds for all the extra parts.
  20. Here is the 70 version of the Superbird. These are from July 70 Super Stock & Drag Illustrated Magazine. The car ran in SS/F.
  21. Can I race, too? Renaissance conversion on Tamiya - nightmare decals! It is done though and you won't see it at a contest!
  22. I just scanned the Hot Rod May 1979 3-page article on the Omni. The Vega or pro/stock Mustang chassis would definitely not be accurate. Wayne's Pro-street Beretta would be better as the Omni was a tube frame car but I think I will still try to cut up a 82 T-Bird pro-stock from Monogram. It is a lot of work to be sure but I am a stickler for correctness in my models. In other news I just shot the red sides on the 71 Cuda and 65 AWB. I will post pics when I have the blue layed down. If anyone wants copies of the Omni article, or an article on the Colt, or several articles on the 68-9 Road Runners and GTXs just e-mail me and I will e-mail scanned copies of the articles. Each page is a bout 1 meg! I will be scanning more articles soon and would be happy to share.
  23. GSL has a reputation for being a custom and rod oriented show. I am not too surprised that there are so few race cars (with the obvious exception of Drag Racing class). After the 2005 Virtue/Corvette GS fiasco  I would expect the race cars to stay away in droves. I am always game for any contest myself but I hear a lot of chatter amongst modelbuilders that is not complimentary to GSL and that is a shame. It is obviously a great contest but it has earned a certain rep. I will certainly go back and I will try to convince others to go. It is a good time.
