  2. Thank you Richard,,,,,,sometimes when things start to go to the paint shop they take longer to get thing done,,,,,have 3 cars in paint right now along with the diorama,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
  3. looking fantastic,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
  4. Iuse what I have at hand, in this case I ended up needing to obtain more than what I have ,,,,,have you tryed to buy just straight legos recently,,they only do fancy kits now. Thanks for commenting ED.. Two of the team members,,,Bill and Richard worked hard yesterday to get new stairs are roughed in,,,need a railing and paint.... I know that when parts start to come in for the builds they will come in shipping crates from MG......... the first one came yesterday way ahead of schedual. naturally.
  5. WOOD GRAINING PLASTIC... GARAGE DOOD JAMBS AND DOORS,,,, MAKING IT OFFICIAL................. tHANK YOU FOR THE COMMENTS AND INTERST,,,THIS IS A LONG TERM PROJECT THAT WILL REQUIRE OVER 1 THOUSAND CASTINGS,,,,,
  6. Thanks for the comments and views... .....the engine recieved an overall colour coat and ready to pick out the details............... Dont forget to check the new diorama linked below........................................
  7. That is what this is made from and I need to finish the loft...............................
  8. The station is still in business and I pass it everyday,,,,,very unique and one I want to tackle sometime.
  9. After a few days of hard cleaning and some paint the crew started to get the garage into shape.....Now they need to get the wiring and othe things put in......the loft still has a ways to go but that will have to wait.
  10. primered 2 days drying and finishing the chassis during that time...Motor has been color coated and drying.
  11. Section 9 Radiator shell using the drawings ofr size and shape cit the .40 plastic glue up,clamp and let dry cut flange for the inside ...sand to shape comparing to the drawings regularly cut oversize piece of .40 for the face. cut out opening. If you have questions or suggestions be sure to post comment......I can post additional information at any time.
  12. Going back to 1935 at the MG board room. In 1935, Nuffield sold the MG Car Company to Morris Motors and it was this rationalisation that lost MG its autonomy. Cecil Kimber was instructed that Abingdon was to return far higher profits and as a result the racing programme ceased with immediate effect. With this in mind a small group of employees wanted to continue with the racing. They got together and using the now proven K3 for the base they and set out looking for a place to have for thier shops. In Devonshire they found an older industrial building that needed work and supplyed a place to hold the 3 K3's and extra mechanicals they needed for racing. There was a loft to hold spares and bits plus a spot to build the engines, frames and repair the bodies as needed. There were not a lot of windows but had a big carriage door at one end to provide access...The photos shows the interior as they found it before they cleaned it out. Over the next year we will explore the refurbishing of the shop and building the race team of 3 K3's with spares and bits and their work in the shops. In the diorama section We will see the shops taking shape and in the workbench section the K3's will get built up. The cars are all going to be cast resin "kits" to show how they got the parts needed from MG. Frame rails, mechanicals, bodies, and special racing tires along with a supply of wires and a lacing shop to repair and straighten the wires. I will keep with the "scratching the surface" for this build along with others as I go along and the completion of the Bentley, of course. Again thanks to all my followers and those that comment,,,,that is what keeps me going

  14. The Bentley and ford are off to the paint shop tomorrow for the first coat of primer, The caddy has been set aside for now but will be taking some molds for the rear quarters. Tomorrow I will be posting some piccys of a new project that will take me through the end of the year, part will be posted here and part in the diorama section since they are part of the same project. I have been designing this for the last few days and will have some new things I am trying....... Thanks for all the comments and feedback on casting. I will also be getting back the the MG TA Q boat tail since some of the problems with that have been solved.
  15. Thank you both for the comments and imput.....I do have a project coming up that will be 90% castings just becasue of the volume of identical parts needed..................
  16. another PT.....loveed the one I had 60's rolls my old 64 mustang,,,,,, any MG prior to 1939 my old 55 olds convertable..............................
  17. Here is a quick down and dirty tutorial on the casting....Masters,,,,I cut the tire in half and put the inside and out side rimes together and mounted them on plastic,,,and glued up some sides. about 10 to 1 mix. poured in the RTV,,,notice the bubbles coming up. after the mold dryed I removed it from the master and poured resin 1 to 1 mix and let it set up..about 5 minutes. I sanded the backs on a sheet of sand paper until the flash fell off and glued the wheel halfs together for finished project ready for paint shop. Notice the spots on the rim that will have to be fixed on the next pour,,,,a quick swipe with a tooth pick in that area before the resin sets will fix it. the RTV set up in about 3 hours and resin about 5 to 7 minutes.....You can make parts you need and save origionals for later. Or if you only have 1 part and need several for a project you can do them quickly. This is good for all small parts on your desk top. No special equipment was needed... I hope this helps you out..Anne...................
  18. Back to the Bentley and a question. I have started to do some resin casting like my 5 part wheels,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Since I made my own masters is using the cast resin parts I made still considered scratch building? I am considering making more cast parts for engines and the like but does it blurr the line between scratch building and replicated parts? But then does it realy matter in the first place.....I guess it is more of a philosophical question tht anything. Then,,,If i use another kit and cast a part there in combination with scratch built parts????I am thinking in particular making up some better side draft carb setups using a flat head carb in combination of scratch built parts and casting them to use on my models,,,,would that cancel out the commercial parts aspect? All silly thoughts but still in the back of my mind.
  19. Section 8 fitting the cowel This is the hardest part of the model and you need to gently heat the part several times to get it to work. cut a piece over size and cut slowly as you go. you can clean up kncks and cracks later as long as they are small. this takes a lot of time to do so dont rush it. You may have to do several times to get it right.
  20. I found these at a garage sale,,,,they are empty chubs baby wipes....they look like legos.......................
  21. I have found that legos make good containment boxes for making the molds but if you dont coat them inside with white glue before making the mold they do leak......the White glue stops most of it,,,,,someone might have some other ideas also they can post.................... Allumilite does not have a lot of working time that is true....for what I am doing it works out but if you are atarting you might try the smooth on because the setting times can be adjusted and if using a pressure pot it is imparative you have a little slower set up time........................
  22. You are right about shrinking of these old castings........There is about A 5% shrink overall judging by the metal castings of the brightwork........................I dont think it will ever come out right,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,R&R has a resin cast,,,,not sure where they got the master for it.......there might be some that did not shrink like this one but I doubt it......You are also very correct on the quality of the mold,,,,,,,even the coup de ville signature on the top of the rear quarter is beautifull.....it might be possible to make some partial molds of a few areas and assemble a full correct version..............probably could also mold it and straight out the mold so it is right.............. It is possiblle for pigs to fly,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
  23. I do all my casting on the same place I model......I have no fancy equipment,,,none at all...... just poured the RTV in simple mold over the master,,,,,,the rim and tire is cast......hand laced of course
  24. needs a lot more to make everything right but might be possible..................
