  1. Oh, this will be interesting!
  2. Very nice bunch of models. I am most interested in the Caddilac. What did it start as and what was done to it?
  3. Thank you, appreciate your kind words.
  4. Those two builds look top notch, Jay. I have been using Scalemotorsport decals since the beginning of their existence, but some reason or another, I have never used their interior patterns. With the excepgion of some blue checkers pattern, which I had very bad luck with. I don’t think it’s been made in years now. I wish they made more plaid patterns.
  5. Last night I got quite a bit done on the interior. I started with the directional carbon on the firewall and the speakers behind the head rests. I still need to do the carbon on each side of the package trey behind the seats. Also, on these pictures I can see some areas that need to be cleaned up or touched up, which you can't really see when looking at the parts in person. Next I moved to the center tunnel. Finally the sides of the tub were done in 1/24 High Definition Carbon - a product from Scalemotorsport I had not used before. It achieved the result I was hoping for and in person the parts covered with it look almost a solid color, just like on the real thing. It creates a nice contrast to the super big carbon weave used on everything else, for which I use 1/12 scale Twill Weave Carbon. Here comes the fun part....Making the seats truly unique. For the purpose some American Plaid decal from Scalemotorsport as used. Also a print of theirs I've never used before. The luggage was done in the same color scheme. And of course some had to carrie on the doors too. The seat backs still need to receive carbon fiber, there are plenty of spots that need some minor touch ups, the luggage needs to get detailed with its logos, picked out handles, zippers etc., the door panels still need to be covered in carbon and their speakers need to receive some detail......Well, a lot still needs to be done, not to mention I have not even started on the dash yet. But you get the idea of the finished interior. Oh, yeah....the floors will receive blue "carpeting", which in Huayras is fine leather. I will be making that from thin sheet styrene. In typical Pagani fashion, the plaid pattern from the seats carries perfectly aligned to the luggage behind them. I wanted to go all out on this interior and took a gamble with the plaid, but I think it's a cohesive result totally in character with the flamboyance of Pagani interiors. There is still tons of work to be done to that cockpit, but we're getting a step closer. As always, thanks for looking and stay tuned....
  6. Great looking build so far. That pitting in your paint, or what a lot of people call “fish eyes”, is usually a combination of heavy coats and humidity. The other thing that causes it is contamination of the surface you are painting. it is total pita to remove it and since most of the time it needs to be sanded all the way down and resprayed, I would be sanding larger spots to blend that area in order to avoid further surface issues. I hope you sort it out and wish you best of luck. The M1 is one of my all time favorites from “The Big Three”.
  7. Well, I am sorry to say it, but you just invested a great amount of effort and skill, to create some detailed brakes that could never be found on the car you are modeling. Or on any modern sports car. Simply because the Aston Martin DBS, just like most exotics our days, uses carbon ceramic brake rotors. And they are never silver, they are not shiny, they don't score and have no radial marks. Carbon brakes look very dark heat stained grey with almost matt finish. Like a stone pulled out of fire, because...well.. that's pretty much what they are. Here's a picture of some used Aston Martin DBS brakes in perfect condition. The effect you have achieved is really cool and would be a dead ringer for the steel brakes on F 40, Countach or Diablo or some older Aston Martins, but not on anything modern with high tech brakes. Even Corvettes use carbon brakes our days. The area where the photo etched pieces are great help is the sharpness of the holes in the rotor's surface and the ease of painting, since you can paint them off the rotor nd therefore eliminate the need of masking the calipers.
  8. Nice job on the windscreen. Wouldn’t it have been easier and better to just vacuform an new one? Either way, nice to see progress on this build. These cars were the ultimate mashup between american hotrodding and italian exotics.
  9. Very nice. I almost died on the back seat of one like this, on prom night, somewhere in the Maryland woods. It was pretty much same colors, except it had black stripes.
  10. Very nice Cobras. I personally like the copper one better.
  11. Somehow I end up quoting myself for no apparent reason and I have no idea how to remove it. Can a moderator perhaps do that please.
  12. The engine is almost completely done. It just needs some decals on the mufflers and maybe few photoetched bolt heads here and there. The aluminum exhaust tips also need to be added, but I am thinking that it would be best to put them on at the end, after the rear bumper. I hope you like it. Also I got the shipment I was waiting on. I love it when good businesses keep reminding you why you have used their services for decades. I've met Mathew a couple of times at shows and he is pure class. I wished all businesses operated like him. Now I have everything I need - decals, solutions, brushes, box of brand new Exacto blades, reference pictures, meditation videos, Advil, a case of Red Bull, psychiatrist on speed dial and a whole weekend. LOL Time to tackle the interior! Thanks for watching and stay tuned.
  13. The rear shocks being detailed. It's a shame they will be mostly covered. And let the carbon madness begin.... In this case the carbon decals are a little bit more complicated, because the weave has to go in certain direction, which means that all templates have to be carefully planned in advance. I always mark the direction of the weave, which is what the lines are on the masking tape templates. For these particular parts 1:12 scale Twill Weave from Scalemotorsport is used. This is what about ten pieces of decals looks like when they are done and clear coated. I had to change the light and took the color away, so the AMG metal transfers could be seen. They are present on the previous picture under the clear coat. The transmission cooler's airbox with a photoetched emblem from the detail set. All carbon parts on this model so far are cleared by brush with Tamiya gloss clear acrylic. Tamiya spray can clear attacks the scalemotorsport decals and pretty much dissolves them. Ask me how I know! LOL The engine permanently fixed in the chassis with the exhaust attached. Stay tuned and thanks for looking....
  14. I agree. These cars really are something else. There is a local guy that brings some crazy cars to Cars and Coffee and he has one with a Tempesta package. He has Some of the latest Ferraris, a Maclaren P1 and a Senna, even the latest Ford GT. But nothing is build remotely to the standard and quality of his Huayra. He usually brings two or three cars to the meet and if the Huayra is one of them, usually his wife drives it. Thank you Dave. A lot more to come. Funniest thing is, I was thinking, that so far this model is totally eligible for any box stock class, as the only thing added is paint and decals.
  15. Thank you Dan. I'm glad you enjoy the build. Thank you Tim. Appreciate it. Thank you Ricky. I definitely will keep you entertained for a wile with this one. LOL
  16. next thing, way earlier than expected, DHL rang the door bell with a package from Japan, which completely destroyed my concentration for some time. I mustered all the self control I had in me and after brief inspection of the contents, I closed the box and put it away. Quick lunch with the kiddo, an old episode of Sheff Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares and I was back on the workbench. I don't know why exactly, but I decided to glue together most of the frame before painting. I can still slide the engine in, but the exhaust is going to be a hard one. Anyway..... Polished aluminum, plus same treatment as the wheels and engine parts on the suspension components, makes for quite the site. Some quick mock ups... Now back to carbon fiber, to get this engine closer to done. Besides the carbon there are quite few decals that go on these components. Stay tuned and thanks for looking...
  17. Time to play with some metalizers...... The wheels and parts of the engine were first sprayed Alclad's Pale gold. It is really cool color and very realistic looking, but I was more after the gold anodized all out look. So the gold was followed by Alclad crear yellow. Now we have a true million dollar finish on that engine. just needs all the carbon fiber added. The pulleys were done with a Mollotow marker and the belts received flat black. All this will be completely buried and never seen once the model is complete, but why not.....? Valve covers received semi-gloss black, while the shields bellow them were done in flat black, together with some of the caps. Then I had real fun with the exhaust system and turbos. I think I spent more time cleaning my airbrush than actually using it. The intercoolers piping received some dark aluminum. And the transmission received some magnesium.
  18. WOW! This looks killer. Very, very clean. The color is simply perfect and the wheels fit the car surprisingly well.
  19. I am pretty sure that in real life you can totally put the dual exhaust on your Camaro, even if it was powered by a four banger Hyundai. And honestly, that would be my choice, as an iconic Muscle car like this Camaro looks kinda wimpy with a single exhaust.
  20. Thank you Alan. I have learned a lot of stuff on here. Info on different modeling subjects, new techniques, different tools and materials and countless ideas and inspirations. This is a place that is a never-ending well of information and inspiration and this is why I keep on coming back even after long periods away from the hobby. I am glad that I can also contribute towards what this forum is.
  21. Thank you Tom. I am definitely down with getting together sometimes. We like going to Bowling Green with my family, so maybe we can meet somewhere around there as it would be probably in the middle.
  22. Look what the FEDEX man just dropped off... Now we're in business and I am excited!!!
  23. Pretty cool so far. I always loved the drilled visors on model As.
  24. Yesterday I did not get much bench time, but enough to mess with the brakes and to try to play with some older carbon decals I have left. One of my favotire tools/materials I like to use is Liquid Mask. It is basically pure Latex. You brush it on. The thicker you apply it, the easier it is to remove later on. Once dry it shrinks around your part and becomes clear or purple or pink, depending on the brand you use. but it creates perfect seal, that nothing will bleed under. I sprayed the rotors with few alternating coats of black and gunmetal, straight out of the spray cans at a considerable distance. The idea was for the cans to kinda "spit" and make the finish dotted with both colors, to replicate the carbon discs the Huayra is using. I did not remember it, but apparently back when I ordered this kit, I did get the photo etch set that Aoshima makes for it too. It does have in it rotor surfaces, but I did not use them as they have to be painted anyway. Instead chose to use just the rotors "hats" in the centers, which I painted black and then picked the detail out. The rotors were sprayed once more with clear flat, the center details were added and then covered with clear gloss and the calipers were unmasked and received the Pagani decals and were then also covered with a thin coat of clear. I am happy with them now. Next I turned my attention to some interior pieces. The door inserts received the polished aluminum speaker surrounds, courtesy of some bare metal foil. Then the speakers themselves received some 1/24 twill weave carbon cones. I have not done carbon in ages and it definitely will take some time to get back to my previous capabilities with it. The edges of the cones are not perfect, which is not an issue as they need their borders painted with a thin line of flat black and their centers are going to be silver/chrome. So, at the end of day yesterday, I had my brakes done, together with the speaker inserts on my door panels and subwoofer. And this is what I am starting with today.
