1958 plymouth golden commando engine
mnwildpunk replied to mjsjr's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I was not aware of that but i knew he was asking about the movie car which was red -
Ok so I have been on this forum off and on for about 2 yrs. I have seen the abreveation NNL dozens of times I know it's some type of show and that is it. First off what does NNL stand for? I typed it in google search and got 1000's of different sites none that looked related. I know also there is divisions like east, midwest, south. Which one would be closest to Minnesota? Thanks for the answers

1958 plymouth golden commando engine
mnwildpunk replied to mjsjr's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Well the engine should be the blue chrysler used at that time. But it was a movie car and john carpenter or who ever made the choice to paint the block the same red as the car. I couldn't find the site that I had read that on again but it came from the movie guy who was responsible for upkeep on all the cars in that movie. This web page supports what I read because there is a picture of the engine http://christinemoviecar.com/ which is painted red -
I got a AMT/ERTL triple car kit many many moons ago. Inside are two lambos and a dodge viper. I'm an american muscle car guy so it is just collecting dust mostly. There have been a couple half hearted attempts to build the lambos but they don't tickle my fancy parts have been plundered or lost on the lambo. The viper is still all sealed up in it's bags. My first question is were these kits only sold in this 3 car package or were these three cars sold individually also? I'm not sure I haven't investigated but is this the first year viper? I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place I debated putting it in the review section

Plated parts question
mnwildpunk replied to mnwildpunk's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
What is a ballpark figure for sending stuff out to get plated? I know there is a lot of factor for a price but is it reasonable or expensive? -
I'm looking for a good pearl white. Like the white on my 51 dodge in my profile pic. Does anybody have pix of Tamaya's pearl? Preferably in a spray can because I don't quite have the hang of my A.B. yet. Also this is along the same lines but not quite. If you decant S.P. Can you spray it through an A.B. As is or should it be thinned down?

this was so sad and yet it was good
mnwildpunk replied to jerseyjunker1's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Very heart warming in a sad way -
First off I'm sorry I don't have a better picture out of 15+ pictures this is the best AMT 71 duster bumper. the plated parts in the kit mainly the bumpers look cloudy there are spots that look clear on the parts too which makes the bumpers look worse almost like they are scratched. Anybody else seen this before? Is there anyway I can improve them without alclad or BMF?

sadly I don't think so. -
Attack of the floor monster AGAIN!
mnwildpunk replied to mnwildpunk's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
one more issue I have is my own forgetfulness (i think it's from things I did back in the day wink wink) like on one model I wasted two straight days looking for a wheel rim. I knew I had two on the tree still and I was looking for the two I thought I had laying around. During the whole time I would look at the two on the tree and then the two I had mounted on the rear axle but it didn't compute. I swore there was still two laying on my bench somewhere not realizing the two I was looking for were already mounted!!! Can you say duh boy's and girls -
your not alone my future wife is building an 87 buick G.N. Except she has to do it her way pearl white with gold accents as she put it. Lol

Attack of the floor monster AGAIN!
mnwildpunk replied to mnwildpunk's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
O.k. This may be a different topic but like the band boston says "are you feelin satisifed" I never am satisifed with a single model I build. Every single one I build I have my mistakes/things I don't like glaring me in the face! -

Attack of the floor monster AGAIN!

Well I cheated I had an old parts by park dizzy laying around because I wasn't happy with it when I bought it but it works in a pinch. Now tomorrow I'll find the other one I bet lol -
I was working on AMT 71 Duster and I was sanding the nubs off the dizzy when "fling" it went sailing through the air. I knew I was in trouble when it didn't make a noise. I have already lost the coil to the same model but It's easy enough to make my own. I wouldn't think it would be that big of a deal since I have hard wood floors Boy was I wrong. I just get sick of these lil set backs. If the model companies really want to start making money they should start making packs of extra distribitors, coils & things of that nature . What is the most common thing that sets your builds back? Lost parts is my number one followed closely by paint issues. Let me hear the thing that bugs you the most about model building?

Phone cord plug wires
mnwildpunk replied to mnwildpunk's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Sorry you are correct what I meant to say is spark plug boots? If my math is correct an 8mm plug wire would be about a .3 mm and phone wire is .9 I have been using painted twist ties. How do ya'll make 45° & 90° boots with the stuff? -
Phone cord plug wires
mnwildpunk replied to mnwildpunk's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Oh something I just thought of also how do you make the wires look realistic; so it looks like it's relaxed and laying along the engines? -
So I have a ton of old useless phone cord and I've read on here some of you use it for plug wires. A couple of questions. I know you strip the outer casing and have four smaller wires. I'm guessing you strip the wires from inside the smaller wire? If you do have you found a use for those thin copper wires? how do you attach wires to the cap (super glue?) Once again thank you for your help

thanks guys I tested it and no problems. I think when I go to do the body I think it's going to lay down thick I may have to spray fast and far away! I know what you folks mean about the new stuff I had a revell body that crazed like mad and this was after I sprayed a model that had been sitting in my collection for 10+ years
