  1. First off I had bought a can of Rustoleum gloss black awhile back for a 1:1 project and I have 3/4s of a can left. I try not to waste anything. So I thought maybe I could get away with using it on a model or two. The can says it's a high performance enamel what ever that means? Has anybody tried this kind of paint before if so what was the result? I'm hoping for an answer before I go and grab some plastic spoons to test on later in the week.
  2. I'm doing amt 71 duster. I admit I did little to no research on it. When I started the model I knew I wanted a sublime green body with an off white creamish interior. I don't know if there was this color combo available or not. I can't find a white interior in any pictures. My question is what color would the steering column and wheel be? I would think the center cap/horn button would be white but would the rest of the wheel also be white? Thanks for any info you may have Dave
  3. When I start a model off i'll be sanding mold lines and filling seams but after awhile I get tired of that. So I throw some paint on the parts and see that seam/mold line staring me in the face. I then go back and sand/fill it anyway.
  4. Real quick is there a list of supplies that your in need of andl if I have any laying around i'll send them your way
  5. It's a great thing you do Mark. I wish I could of done more.
  6. Thanks for the reminder. I am going to scribe them a bit deeper Thanks for the reminder. I am going to scribe them a bit deeper
  7. I pre-thinned it before I sprayed it and I added more when I first noticed the problem. It could be air pressue I'm never sure on what I should have it at. I know from experience that I need less pressure for enamals then acrylics. could someone tell the pressures for the different types of paint? Acrylics Enamels Lacquers I know each and every paint is different so I'm looking for some ballpark figures
  8. So I'm working on an AMT 71 duster. I decided since I have a $150 airbrush set up that I barely use that I would paint everything but the body with it. Last night I painted the K-member and suspension parts with no issues. Then I went on to paint the engine. I couldn't snap a good enough picture to show you so I just have to explain. The paint did not lay down smooth it is a gloss color but the paint looks uneven almost texterd. So it looks more like a semi-gloss. I wish I could get a good pic to show ya because it's hard to explain. It's almost like it didn't atomize enough. I hope I explain well enough. Oh also it was a M.M. Enamel
  9. I've been trying to paint an AMT 71 duster I have a can of M.M. Sublime green. When I spray it's very heavy and I get big specks of paint. I've shaken the can til my arm fell off. I've soaked the can in warm water. Anybody else have any ideas to what the problem may be
  10. I dig it a lot reminds me of my old camaro I had sitting in my ma's side yard for yrs. Until one day when she had enough and sold it out from under me
  11. I know right! The little cheesehead is doing his moma and me very proud! The kid has natural talent.
  12. I have a nice airbrush I love how it sprays but I find myself still using and buying rattle cans. Why I don't know I think it may be because I haven't quite got the hang of the A.B. yet. Maybe it's the clean up of the A.B. or the fact I'm just lazy!
  13. Very interesting queation now I want to know.
  14. Well my stepson's car is in the under glass section. But i'll post her buick and my duster when they get closer to done. I really look forward to her buick because she does oil painting for a hobby already
  15. Yes it is great when my son wife and I all head downstairs to work on our models. The wife has a 87 buick GN the son is looking for a new model and helping me on my 71 duster
  16. So I have been building models off and on since I was 6. I recently got my stepson Beau modeling and he is doing great I think the last one he built could win his age group in a contest. Well as Beau and I are building his last model he asked his mom if she would ever build a model? I waited for a answer of no when to my surprise she said YES!! At the model shop she picked out the 87 Buick GN. It is a lot of fun working with both of them. I would have never thought in a million years that all three of us would be working together on kits.
  17. This past weekend we decided our old matress was shot. So we went and got a new one. A real bed not the thin cheap matress we all had when we were single. Delivery who needs delivery not us. Well we kicked the old mattress to the curb and grabbed the new one out of the truck. Once we got it inside we had already started rethinking the delivery and we still had a flight of stairs to go. Half way up well our energy was gone but we couldn't quit now. My wonderful women decided she needed a break and thought leaving the beds full weight trying to push me down the stairs was ok. I assured her it wasn't! We finally made it to the bed room after trying to bend it around a corner. We flopped it down on the frame and both collasped on our new bed. In that moment my thoughts crystalized on the fact I can't do things like this anymore without a fist full of painkillers or a few drinks afterwards. My question to you is what age did you fully understand your not superman and your not going to do stupid STUFF like carrying a mattress up stairs anymore!
  18. In under glass you will see my stepson's third model an 85 camaro that he did a fantastic job on. We are now looking for another model kit like the 85 camaro which was fairly basic. We want something that isn't a pain. Nothing that has parts which need adjustment to make them fit. Snap kits don't challenge him enough but I don't want anything so challenging that it turns him off from the hobby. What I'm asking for is a model kit that you think would be good for an 8 yr old and if you could please list the reasons why you think it's a good kit for him. Oh could you also list anything negative about said kit too. Thank you and if I didn't make it hard enough to look at a kit with the eyes of an 8 yr old one last thing to add. The kit won't interest him unless it's a street rod, muscle car or big tractor trailer. He passed on a couple kits I had which were lambos. He said "they are not old and they are ugly dad" he may not be my true son but he has my taste
  19. To tell you guys the truth I was a bit jealous of the boy. I just got back into modeling and I think his camaro looked just as good if not better then my sedan delivery I built resently. I like the things he did to make it his own. Like the fact he wanted the valve covers copper colored and tail light lenes clear like the newer car lights. he is saying things like I want make carpets in my next car. I have been reading the posts you guys have left and he is really jazzed to show you all what he build next. Thank you guys for your comments it's helping his self esteem a lot
  20. He says "tell all of those guys thank you".
  21. I don't know what to get him next but I'm sure he'll knock it out of the park. I noticed his ADHD calms down a lot when he is working on a model! I am super proud of the boy
  22. at 8 years old. my soon to be step-son Beau took an interest in modeling so I got him a couple snap cars first and I noticed they didn't pose a challenge to him at all. I decided to grab the 85 camaro kit originally for myself but gave it to beau because I thought it would be a great starter kit. Well he jumped right in and these pictures show how well I think he did. He did everything! Painting gluing and detailing. I think he did a great job!!!
  23. I thought I should show ya the other kitty too. Black & white kitty is my skipper and the other is scout.
  24. I know I hate losing pets my best friend for 16 years Simon the hot dog dog. coolest pup in the world. Past away and it made it really hard when my cocker mindy-ru-ru got sick I swore I'd never get another pet. But I'm glad the soon to be trumped me.
