1954 chevy panel truck
mnwildpunk replied to mnwildpunk's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Here are a few progress pictures of what I have been doing I finally got the engine detailed as much as I like. I found a driveshaft that looks better then the one that comes with the kit. The frame is straight and I got the rearend to sit closer to the body. I've cut the rear door open I guess it is on to the interior. Well thank you all for watching my post there should be more to report soon -
Building With Gloves
mnwildpunk replied to slusher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Auto zone has a nice set of nitrile gloves for not to much scratch. I like them because they are fairly thin and fit nicely on my hand and I like the fact they don't rip or tear like other cheap ones do -

the other day I picked up a snap tight kit for my girlfriend's son I got the Revell 70 chevelle. Her son beau (age 7)is a great kid and a car/truck junkie he build lego kits all the time and is really good. His imagination is amazing. I want to show him that what is in the box and instructions isn't the only way you can build it. Now obviously I won't show him kit bashing but little things that make a difference. I am not familiar with the kit in fact I've never built a snap tight kit before. How basic are these kits and how much detailingshould I try and show him for his first kit?

Now that is a great answer Mark

How did I get signed up for this?
mnwildpunk replied to Austin T's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
On nitrous when I had dental work done I remember them giving me an icepack and I asked why does ice have to be so cold? also I asked if I could have a red rocket to drink. Which we later found out I was refering to a coke bottle -

I join the group about a year ago and almost instantly made friends with another gentleman on here who has the handle disabled modeler (Mark O.). Some of you may know him . I don't know if your aware of the amazing things he is doing for not only for the hobby but also other disabled men in his area. After an accident severely injured him and left him bed ridden for a few months. He thought of an idea and sat on it until he was mobile. Although mark never fully recovered from his accident his mind kept going back to how bored he was when laid up. He went into the community and met other disabled men and that is when Mark started helping those guys who were bored to tears everyday with nothing to do. He started getting together with 12 guys. Now this is where the story really starts to get impressive. On only a disability check Mark started bringing these guys paints, glue, brushes , etc and placemats. Along with a model out of his collection. He meets with these guys (which sadly the group is down to 6 because of certian member condition worsening or passing away) every wednesday and thursday morning. He teaches them many things and in his words "you'd be surprised what you can teach a person" you should if you can look at his models he has completed. If he teaches those guys 1/4 of his talent those are some great looking models his group is making. I can't believe he is able to do this on a disability check. From talking to Mark he thinks he isn't doing much but what he is doing is immeasurable!!! I think we all need to take a second give Mark a round of applause for what he is doing.

How do you handle tiny parts?
mnwildpunk replied to mnwildpunk's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
That is a topic to itself the other day my workbench got hungry and gobbled up my steering wheel! I just have to wait for it to get sick from it and regurgitate it for me. Naughty naughty workbench. Do I rub his nose in it when he does? -
Silly color question
mnwildpunk replied to mnwildpunk's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
hey did the hudson look anything like this? this is my uncles 39 hudson sedan delivery. I've never seen anything close to it -
I went through the post trying to find the quote and couldn't but I agree with who ever said "you had me at A100" I can't wait to see how you build it. now for my opinion and it is just that MY opinion that type of rim can look good on that truck but I'M not a fan of the skinny tire look. Now go forth and build and I wish you all the luck at the show in sept.

Here is a little progress Before and after I still have to add filler and shape. I know it may not seem like much to you pros but I'm pretty proud of my first time trying my hand at filling a gap. I'll have more pictures this weekend I keep finding things I did that I don't like and going back and fixing them. -
Art I couldn't of said it better myself. I was a plant manager of a pad printing shop here in MN for 7 years. It is quite a simple process and fun. one of the few jobs I loved. But the nice thing about pad printed products is if you use the right inks on styrene the part will wear out before the ink does. Because the ink will etch(burn in is the termed we used) itself into the styrene and the nice thing in working with it we didn't have to flame or electroflux the styrene
