Old Sprinter

Romell, this car is one of the finest models I have ever seen. Your detail work blows me away, man!

WOW, WOW, WOW. I have never seen anything like that in my life. What a great car, Dave. I need that !!!!

With the help of Red Bull and my Ipod playing AC/DC, Bachman Turner Overdrive and the Stones I started the frame today for this newest adventure in modeling, an AJ Watson Indy Roadster. I love these cars and can't believe I'm finally building one in 1/8 scale. This thing will be Offy powered and as close to the picture as I can can get.

Rommel; that's amazing!! I had no idea that there was a model kit out there with that kind of detail. You're doing fantastic, putting it all together. There's just so much detail!!

Bill, it is governed by what ever association your running in. Some rules say 481 cu in and some (especially back in the day) say "'run what you brung". They have an 1850 lbs min. weight limit with a max of 100" wheel base and an 85" max. wheel track. No clutch or flywheel; the drive line hooks right to the crank shaft (more or less). The wings and suspension are all up to the builder. There aren't many classes left, in racing, where you can do that, anymore. One of the cool things is the wings that move up and down during corning and the driver can move it back and forward as the track changes, from the cockpit. Personally, I think these cars should be the ones running the Indy 500 instead of the Batmobiles that currently race there.

Well Dave since they torque to the right, all I need to do is bust it off and rev her up until she's straight. LOL I love the motors hanging out as well, Bill. You even get more left side weight by tilting them over about 40 degrees because of the weight of the heads. I got some more done today. These are crazy radical race cars, aren't they?

Thanks Derrick, Bill, Romell and Chris. I won't let anything prevent me from being at that Desert Classic next year. I've got her up on wheels and I'm still messing with the body and making radius rods, nerf bars, etc. Like Romell says " details, details, there's always more details until you're finished."

Looks like you just need to flip the 6 over and make a 9. LOL Cool car.

That whole motor is just plain cool. Great work, Romell.

Thanks Bill; I've got some more done on this beast. Check out the inboard spring/shock set up on the front end. The rear wing still need the compressed air canisters that raise it up, in the back, when entering a corner.

Okay, the part Indy car, part sprint car and part stock car is moving along.

Thanks Mike and yes I do sell blueprints for 1/8 scale sprints ( todays cars and from the 80s). vintage 60s midget, supermodified and the Watson Roadster plans. All in 1/8 scale. Amazing stuff, Dave. It needs a few more nozzles, though. Man I thought sprinters had a bunch with 16. Beautiful work.

That's a super alright, Randy, nice work. Thanks Dave, Scott and Bill, this will be a fun project. Joe I started on the frame and I've decided these supers are part Indy Car ( the wings and nose), part stock car ( the frame), part dragster ( the motor) and part sprint car (all the rest of it)

Here's some pictures of the real guys for those who haven't seen a super before.

I want to take a break from building sprint cars and I love supermodifeds almost as much as sprints. I drew plans up this weekend and I'm ready to start fabing. A lot of you may have never even seen a supermodified. They are wild and probably the fastest race cars, out there, on a half mile pavement track. Big blocks and small blocks all in the 900+ HP range; 70+% left side weight bias and huge wings that move up when entering the corner and go down flat on the straight aways. This should be fun.

Direct port injection nozzles they run in addition to the nozzles at the injectors themselves.. There is a total of 16 fuel lines going to the cylinders. Lots and lots of methanol

That's cool! A metal body, wow. This will be interesting to follow.
