  1. Thanks to all of you guys. Jim3 lives in sprint car country. Here's the real sprinter of Brady Bacon. I have wraps ( not decals) in 1/8 scale, from the company that did his race car so it should look great.
  2. I started this awhile back but I have been being grandpa for the last several weeks and loving every minute so I have just been doing bits and pieces. This is a winged car; the real one is driven by Brady Bacon. It will have some really cool graphics which I have; just need to finish the car. Here's what she looks like today and when I started it.
  3. Ted; try making your own tires out of styrene and poster board. It's not very hard to do and they look as good as a cast tire, plus you can make them any size and tread you want.. I use flat black paint (three coats) Here's some pictures, if this interest you I'd be glad to send you more pictures and tell you how I do i it.
  4. That motor looks great, Don. There's nothing cheap about our hobby. As you know, i scratch build everything. You would think that would be cheap, but it still cost me around $180 for each race car I build. That's just styrene, bolts, tubing, glue, paint, etc.It takes a little over a month to finish one and then I'm spending that again to start a new project. Man; I shutter to think about how much I could be spending if these were the real deal. $180 wouldn't even buy a tire. I still can't wait to see how you do the headers, once the motor is mounted in the frame.
  5. I finally finished the 53 of Jon Stanbrough.
  6. Holy Cow; that otta make something happen; what a motor! Good stuff Don.
  7. You did a great job on that car but old Cato is correct about George. Your build is before the green flag dropped, lol. Nice detail on everything.
  8. That thing looks powerful just sitting there. Nice work, boss. I can't wait to see how you do the exhaust system
  9. Thanks; I'm a very lucky guy getting to build models of what I love. But to build lots of them and get paid for it is over the top. I never want it to end.
  10. This will be good, Don. Here's a picture of the real car. I'll be getting a wrap for all the graphics. It will be made by the same company that did this car.
  11. I started the World of Outlaw car a few days ago. This will be a cool sprinter.
  12. That's pretty cool and I like the music! Thanks for sharing that . ken
  13. It was good racing and lots of it. I have never missed an Indy 500 for as long as I can remember. When I was a kid we listened to it on the radio, even when I was in the Army overseas I got to hear the race. Of course once it was televised, I have never missed watching it. Monaco is my favorite F-1 race without question. The 600 is cool and usually boils down to the last 10 miles, but not so much this year. Friday night I watched World of Outlaw sprinters run at Charlotte, very cool stuff.
  14. Thank you David. I'm just about finished with the third car. It needs a few litttle things and decals which I'm hoping come this week. Next up is a WOO winged sprinter ( I can't wait)
  15. Thanks Chris; unfortunately those two sprinters have been shipped to Indiana. I'm working on the third one and then they'll be a fourth and so on. They're all for people involved in USAC racing back in the mid west. If you ever are in the Old Pueblo (Tucson), come on over and check some of these cars out. You're only about an hour and a half away as I live next to Marana. I wish I could keep these cars. Ken
  16. Thanks Wayne and Bill. Yea, I've done a couple of older ones. Here's an Offy and an Autocraft VW. I would like to do Sammy's car he uses at the Chilli Bowl.
  17. Thank you all. It makes my day. I've finished the pavement car and they're both being shipped off today to Indiana. MF. the guys I'm building these for supplied the decals. They do wraps for race cars, trucks, all that kind of stuff. It's a vinyl peel and stick and amazing stuff as it conforms to any shape. I sent them drawings of each panel and they made the decals just like the real cars. I'm hoping they'll do more for me after I have finished with their order which includes two more cars. I also use a guy in Pennsylvania who does custom water slides for race car models but these are the best.
  18. Thank you, Dave. You, my friend ,set the bar for race cars. I finally finished the first one.
  19. First, thank you, Bill. Danny the Dude over came some bad stuff then went on to win the Knoxville Nationals and the WOO championship. One tough hombre. The same grit as Steve Kinser. I have loved sprints and midgets all my life, so getting to build models of them, now that I'm retired, is cool. Getting to be around those guys, like you did, is a pretty awesome experience as well.
  20. Bart; it's styrene and some Bondo. The sides and top are .040 styrene sheet epoxied to a half of a 1/4" styrene tube. The main rail at the cage are 3/16" so it has to slide over them; that's why 1/4". The rounded part of the hood I made styrene ribs in that shape, glued them to the top and filled it in with Bondo to make it rounded. The hood is cut along the injector box so the sides pull out to slip the hood on or off. It's an old Indian trick! LOL Ken
  21. I'm waiting on the decals, still and on a shipment of styrene so I robbed some tires and wheels from the first car just to see what she's going to look like. The hood on this was a challenge.
  22. Bart; I've been busy and missed seeing your car in awhile. That thing just oozes cool and I know nothing about dragsters other than they go straight really fast. You have got the eye for building my friend. Great work! Ken
  23. I'm starting on #3 actually it's car 53 in USAC. It's another dirt car with some slight differences from the first one. The left side has another vertical bar at the cage, the front braces are different and the shock mounts and hood is different. I'm getting faster as all of this has taken me about 12 hours to do. Here's also a shot of the real car, I'm building..
  24. These cars are getting decals this week and being deployed to Indiana next week. Note the right hand steer on the pavement car vs. left hand on the dirt car.
