  1. Here's s little something different!!
  2. Sam; rbmotion.com is a good place for spark plugs, boots, AN fittings, etc..TRD inovations at Shapeway has a lot of great 1/8 scale motors and suspension parts. Teds modeling is another good source. Google stuff, you'll find it.
  3. It's 1/8 scale. I use 3/16" styrene tubing for the chassis main rails, 1/4" for the front axle and 3/8" for the live axle rear end. On the hood I use 5/16" tubing, cut in half, for the part that wraps around the rails
  4. I'm now building a car for a client in South Africa. His good friend, Johan Roos, owned and drove this car to several championshps there. It's an 06 Maxim, 410 winged pavement sprinter.
  5. I'm a race car nut and your F1 car is outstanding. Great job building it, man.
  6. Thanks Bill and Ron. I really love building these sprinters, but they also pay for the cars I build for myself (like the Watson Indy Roadster) I will be back on that project soon.
  7. Thank you Goeff. This car is ready for nerf bars and decals.
  8. Building the suspenion now. This is my favorite part. I hope you all have a great Thanksgiving!
  9. I don't get it. but I'm fairly new to model building. I don't buy "kits" to build. I draw plans of the car I want; buy some sheets of styrene and aluminum, plus some styrene tubing and glue. Then I build what I draw and try to make it look as close as I can to the real thing. I have been calling it "scratch building" but now I'm not sure what it is, other than fun to do. When you can build most anything you can think of, that's fun stuff, to me. It's not that difficult, with practice. There's several other guys here that do the same thing I use to build buildings and stadiums and custom homes. They didn't come in a kit form. Was that scratch building. It's not much different than making one of these models except more pieces and more money. Here's one I'm "scratch building" now. What should I call this kind of building.
  10. Got this thing up on wheels. It takes me a week and a half to build the ires and wheels. It's worth it.
  11. You can make your own tires and wheels out of styrene; that's what I do. It's time consuming but not all that difficult.
  12. Motor done so I'm starting the front and rear end.
  13. Thanks Bill. Tail tank is finished and I'm building the motor.
  14. I have had to red flag the Indy car project so I could crank out a couple of sprint cars before Christmas. Here's one I'm building. It will be the Maxim Chassis car of Brady Short.
  15. That is beautiful. I'm also a fan of F1 cars from the 70s.
  16. Thanks Ray. I've got it cut into sections and it fit almost perfect on the frame. It doesn't always go that well.
  17. That's cool, Harry, thanks. I'll try to take good pictures and I hope it turns out to be worthy of being in your magazine.
  18. Thanks to all of you. I'm closing in on finishing the body. Got the glass laid up and now I'm going to cut out the body panels and hinge the hood with a small piano hinge. I still have some filling and sanding to do. I also made one wheel and tire with styrene. The wheel is a 1 1/4' conduit coupler with a styrene center. center.
  19. Thanks Harry; what magizine would you suggest? LOL.
  20. Thanks to all of you for your interest and encouragement. I have finally got the Offy almost complete and still working on the body buck.
  21. Thanks, Dave, I guess I could have a Sprint Car Museum. Here's what I have got done so far. The body buck is made out of 1/8" foam and is being covered with poster board, then fiberglass. When it's complete, all this will be removed and thrown away.
