With a Franklin Mint diecast and a Modelhaus resin (as well as 1/18 scale versions for way cheap!) this should satisfy the market for Tuckers.

actually it's cleanly built, not a junk heap with stuff hanging off of it. I'd anticipate that it drove and stopped well, so why not?

I would fight for David's right to display this car in the under glass section. Heck, his build should've been in the "Model Cars - Under Construction" section. Once he cracked that diecast open and completely redid it, it indeed is a model. Note that the very beginnings of our hobby in the 1950s was guys who broke open promotional models and made their own creations. In my book, that's a model no matter what the medium. The diecast section? Should just be a place for people to show prebuilt stuff they bought that way!

Hopefully they can cast two copies.... one for you and I'll buy the other one!

Ah, I knew the warm afterglow of vacation wouldn't last long! Got back from GSL yesterday and actually had a good day at work today. I get home and the phone rings... daughter number two lost her job of 4 years due to another company buying the hotel property where she was Sales Manager. Kinda stupid on their part, since her sales department doubled sales in her time, and that sales volume was what they had paid for! But then again, she has an interview elsewhere tomorrow..

I was at the GSL auction this weekend, sitting next to Jim Keeler and he bid on and won that new Surfite kit. Kinda irony? So I told him that he better autograph that box for himself!

EBBRO is to France what Moebius is to the US model builder. Every 50 something year old kid in France will want one of those DS's and the variations to come! The kit isn't aimed at the US market so we will pay the import kit prices. As far as 70s land yachts, it wouldn't be wise to tool up new ones. When Model King issued the 1970 Buick Electra and 1971 Thunderbird reissues... they were a slow sell for Dave!

I've always loved Doodlebugs since they just ooze with the story of American ingenuity. Farmers needed a tool so they set out to make one from old cars and left over parts. A really cool depiction is in the movie "Cider House Rules". There is a shortie orchard truck that is featured prominently in the movie. Skip, there have been models done over the years by various folks. I have one I started off the old AMT '32 Vicky / Phaeton kit. I really need to finish that one!

Not necessarily so! I have a big collection that I've acquired over the last 28 years. I've never sold anything to speak of, nor do I really keep track of what things are going for. I collect them because the thrill of the hunt is enjoyable and I enjoy owning them. I can spend a day in my model warehouse just opening boxes and playing. I have a few kits I'm looking for to complete series. I also have a bunch of cool old stuff I'd never expect to build but I bought it just because it's cool and I enjoy showing it to people. Things like old balsa kits, some early plastic kits from the 1950s and kits from the lesser model companies I collect because the box art is neat.

Very important! A hobby is second to your responsibility to your family and household. Never spend money on the hobby before your rent/mortgage and family obligations are taken care of.

I have no problem with being called a kit collector. I will buy everything that I like, and I enjoy completing series of annuals. I've completed my full size Chevy set, a mix of unbuilt kits, old built ups and a few I've assembled the correct parts in a box. The intent is someday to have all these built on my shelf... and what a shelf it will be! Right now I'm focusing on collecting other series, like the 1969 Pontiac I need to complete that run. Then my full size Pontiac run is complete. Can I say I"ll ever get to building them all? Nope. But I've enjoyed the chase of finding all these cool kits and of acquiring and owning them. As I look through them I can imagine how cool it will be to have them all finished side by side. I also have collected multiples of every kit of an old pickup ever produced, along with resin variations. This is my seed stock, for when I come across a 1:1, either in person or in photos, that I just have to commit to plastic. I'm happy to have it all in inventory when that situation arises. The reality though is that I have many more models than I will ever finish. Just like when I had a collection of 1:1 cars I thought I'd never part with, one day I woke up and decided to sell them all. And that could happen with my model collection just as easy. You just never know when that day will come, but when it does happen you will know. In the meantime, I enjoy acquiring them, I have the space to store them, I have the expendable cash to buy them and I enjoy the hobby. So no harm, no foul!

Yes, this is the difference that may be that last $5 per kit round of design changes that the $25 kits haven't budgeted. Moebius has positioned itself to be a low volume boutique manufacturer. They are avoiding big box type retailers and going for the niche market of high end modelers. In fact speaking with all three of the major companies, they are all focusing on the fact that us baby boomers are retiring and will have more time and money to focus on hobbies. Note the new subject matter is all geared to our tastes. This is the new Renaissance of the hobby that should carry it for the next 10-20 years. No, I think this is a direct response to the overall disrespect shown to Dave in his last attempt to communicate with this board.

Jesse - Nice first attempt of BMF on the 'cuda. BIG difference from your first photo. There is nothing like BMF. Spend a little time learning to use it and you'll never go back to other methods.

Every year Jean-Jacques Lillette travels from France to NNL East. His English isn't that good so it's difficult to have a conversation, but he's big into US 1950s everything! This year he surprised everyone by bringing a GM Futurliner that started with a rough resin he bought on eBay. We think this is one of the Joel Dirnberger pieces. Anyway, this was such a sight that our club agreed to award him "The Joe Cavorley Award - the model Joe would've appreciated most". Joe was a master truck builder and really would have enjoyed seeing this model in person! The above photos are my two quick shots taken for the NNL East results page. It's pretty much been standard practice for model companies to kit the top of the line car, mainly because that was the promo request from the car manufacturers. The best answer is the aftermarket. I know that MCW does a whole line of Biscayne 2 door sedans etc for creating drag cars. Other entities have done 4 door, plain jane and wagon conversions. The Model Car Garage has done lower level scripts on their photo etch sheets too. You can view these on their website so to know exactly which sheets contain these.
