  1. My 1960 Buick had that speedometer. Instead of a needle, the it had a line that filled up red to the speed you were going. The numbers were above the line. Inside there was a round cylinder with the red / black line on it that would turn to provide the red line.
  2. I went back and copied the exact quote: "And though sales soared back to about 2,500 units last month, according to estimates by the electric car site InsideEVs, the Model S still trailed its main competitor, the Nissan LEAF." Yea, Tesla better catch up with that Leaf!
  3. That is way cool! You even got the trophy and the chick in the end!
  4. Ever watch Kevin Smith movies? As a director he usually cameos Monmouth County, NJ locations. It's fun to watch the movies and see things from our towns. It's even more fun to see his movies in local theaters. Everyone cheers. Except in one scene of Jersey Girl, which was shot in Highlands, NJ. When the main character decides to move back to New York, there's a shot of his U-Haul truck going across the Sandy Hook Bridge... except it's headed south! Everyone in the theater was yelling, "Wrong way! Turn around!" My claim to fame? The store that he shot the movie Clerks in... I was assistant manager at that store years before the movie was done there!
  5. Funny you should say that... I usually don't leave my property for days at a time when I work from home. Went nowhere at all today!
  6. A situation so horrible that we all thanked God when the Italians came in and saved the day! Things you thought you'd never see in life! Remember that Cerberus main mission is to rob and plunder. There was a story on news shows (maybe it was 60 MInutes?) about their purchase of an old line store chain called Merv's on the west coast. They bought the profitable chain, which had employed people for their entire careers.. so what happens? Cerberus realized that since the chain was so established and old school that they outright owned all their store locations. Prime real estate. And the sum of which was worth more than they paid for the chain. So they shut down the chain, fired thousands of people and sold the properties for a profit. Chrysler got off easy!
  7. I need to dig out all my stereo equipment, and either set it up or see that it gets to people who would appreciate it. My father's hobby was audio and he always had a big stereo and some of the best equipment. He always saved the original boxes (especially since he was military and we moved every few years) and when he bought something better, the old one went back in it's box. I don't think he ever got rid of anything. He's no longer around so I have it all today... I have at least two reel to reels, a bunch of receivers, speaker sets and turn tables... era 1960s to 1970s.
  8. I've watched the show "The Long Island Medium".... but she looks more like a "Large" to me!
  9. I wonder that myself... or some of the people I see with phones glued to them.. leaves me thinking "Who the heck is gonna call THEM?" I know the answer, other dirt bags!
  10. Yea James, but have you ever used a dial phone? My daughters sit in wonder, like I'm from Little House on the Prairie" when I tell them that we didn't have cell phones, lap tops or Facebook in the 1970s... that we needed to call our friend's family phone and hope his mother gave him the message. If not and if we missed where our friends were meeting on a Friday night, there was no calling or texting them to find them... you had to get in the car and drive around town looking for them... and not finding them... there went your evening! The things we take for granted these days.
  11. True! The Japanese culture isn't to stand out and be an individual. It's to conform and strive to earn a white Camry like everyone else. And for America Toyota has built the perfect appliance, bland, but in a way that there's not much there for anyone to object to. It will run 200,000 miles without being serviced. The perfect car for people disinterested in cars. My wife's brother has three of them, five years apart. He's the guy who forgets all about service intervals and runs cars that are making horrible noises and without oil. Still his Camrys hum on! Not too long ago he bought his daughter a used car to use for college. I asked him what kind of car he bought and he couldn't tell me! He said it was a small red car.. when pressed for details he got angry. I said to him, "So you bought this car, titled, registered and insured it in your name and you still can't tell me what it is?" I was flabbergasted! About a half hour later he texts me, "It's a Ford Focus." No doubt he went outside and looked.
  12. Great work, I just found this thread! That is the coolest kit! I had never had one, so when I got mine home and opened the box I couldn't put it down. I was twisting parts off trees like a 12 year old! I've been looking to get a second kit to build all the versions have in my head right now..... so you have at least one more car coming from that box... so what will it be?
  13. Sorry to hear this James... family stuff sucks! I know how this elder stuff works, we've been up to our ears in aging and dying parents for the last decade. My father had his wits about him, but as we all knew he was dying of cancer he refused to acknowledge it or make any plans for the future care of my mother who had Alzheimer's. His doctor called my sister and I in for a consult, frustrated with the situation. There was no talking to my dad, so I went to their family attorney, who was a friend of my mother's who tersely told me to butt out of my parents affairs. Once my father was on his death bed, my aunt (his sister) went to same attorney and got him to sign a will and sign over my mother's care to me. Same attorney apologized to me and suddenly was my best friend. Then my sister smelled money and went to the attorney to challenge my power of attorney and executorship of estate. Fortunately the attorney chased them away and they weren't brave enough to try a court challenge. It became a tense 10 years until my mother finally passed penniless. My relationship with my sister has never been right since. Hope things get better for you.
  14. I read the article on AOL news, watered down for the general public.... I drove my cousin's Tesla S and I was very surprised when he told me to stomp the gas...er, I mean electric... or maybe just call it a pedal. It was like when I used to drive my buddy's 389 GTO. But it's now a 3 second car! Man, that should dispel those electric car jokes. Speaking of jokes, the AOL article made it sound like the Tesla was in direct competition with the Nissan Leaf... and that the Leaf was winning! That's what happens when you let pedestrians write car articles.
  15. Yes it is, a friend sent me a photo of a Citroen 2CV van in the car corral. But all these trucks were going the wrong direction! I'm a half hour west of Philly and all those trucks were headed towards NJ!
  16. Rich- The AMT '57 Ford had a flat set of tail lights as a custom piece... or maybe someone has a spare set of these bezels.. I have both sets of red lenses if you want them.
  17. Thank you Carl!
  18. I always liked the old Rambler speedo with the zero to twelve mph range! That did baffle me as a kid.
  19. Nope.... this is one of my favorite lines from a song...and a bit of how I've seen my life. Should be an easy one! Hint- its the first two lines of a song...
  20. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hokey_cokey It's actually a pretty interesting story, the various theories about the origin... The best one is Al Tabor, a British band leader wrote it during WWII. Maybe the first recording was by the US group, the Ram Trio in the early 1950s. There are bits and pieces of it that go back to the 1800s according to the wiki article.
  21. Silly? It's one of the most covered songs in history! And I'll bet nobody gets the original artist!
  22. Although on the rear end of a '59 Buick, these are '57 Ford tail lights with a '59 Caddy bullet mounted in the middle. Just an idea! Great project Rich, I'm following along as usual!
  23. Thats why I don't even open any of those free offer emails from any entity I didn't sign up for! Some of the spammers are getting crafty, spoofing from your friend's email and including a personal note from them inside urging you to click on a link to see something cool. Nope I don't click. And even on boards like this and the other model boards... some guys just post "Lookit This" and a link. Sorry, if you didn't take the time to describe why I'm clicking, I don't
