My irk of the day? Okay from yesterday.... the deli counter at the supermarket. Don't get me into the service end of it, I can be critical since I ran a deli in my younger days and learned how to slice and package things. The staff here is union, most have been doing the deli for many years. Still they'll slice stuff wrong and package it so that it gels back into one big blob of meat or cheese.. and when you tell them how you want yours done they roll their eyes. I can't imagine doing something professionally and stinking at it... and not caring! But my peeve is the customers. How come everyone takes their number and then stands right against the glass case, often with their cart sideways against the glass next to them? And their number is like 10 away? So you can't look into the cases to see the product at all, and these dolts (men and women equally) stand their ground and you have to reach over them as you're ordering and being handed your packages??? Why can't they all stand back and wait their turn??? People!

I dunno Harry. A bit too logical for most folks. My dog Ted is now 14 and we're watching his decline. He has problems jumping onto the couch and 'misses' sometimes when he tries. Then he settles for sleeping on the floor. Sometimes I'll help him get up. Fortunate for us the only carpet in our whole house is living and dining room, which are gated off so he has no access. He does manage to puke behind furniture, and when spiteful will leave presents. But he still has enough life left in him to enjoy his life. He jumped into the pool twice yesterday.

A Happy and Safe Independence Day Holiday To All.
Tom Geiger replied to Ramfins59's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
A happy fourth to everyone! I spent my day power washing my pool deck and cover. A few more hours tomorrow morning and I'm ready for summer. Having guests tomorrow who may stay over. -
Neat model! I had a 1978 Corolla Deluxe wagon! It was my company car, and the first time I ever saw a 5 speed was right after someone dropped me off that the dealer to pick it up. Corollas were in short supply then and you got on a waiting list and took what was offered, so the next car in the queue was a standard shift, which I had never done before! A quick lesson from a salesman in the parking lot and I was let loose on New Jersey traffic. By the end of the day I had it mastered. And back when all our US made company cars were disasters, this little Toyota was a gem! Never went back to the dealer, just routine maintenance and I put 100,000 miles on it in two years.

I love your model because I have a 1:1. This is my 1995 Celica GT Convertible in the same red!

Guys, that deal will never get done. The seller is obviously confused and will never complete that transaction. And no court in America will enforce that sale. It is funny though. Many years ago when I'd hang on the eBay sellers boards, a guy came on for help. He had sold a few things and was concerned as to what to do. He put a link to the auction in question, and the guy had listed a reclining easy chair for $75 with free shipping. He was in Virginia and the buyer was in California. A quick look at his other auctions showed him selling a chain saw, a patio furniture set and some other large items, all starting at a penny with free shipping. The folks on the board helped him untangle his mess and cancel his auctions. Back when eBay was new, if you didn't put in a minimum bid it defaulted to a penny, Ask me how I know that one!

Motor City Masters

Agreed! But I am waiting for the day that Wayne actually gets excited about something! I also like American Pickers and American Restoration... but the prices they charge to restore stuff is insane! -
Philco P22 1/24 '66 Mustang Radio
Tom Geiger replied to gwolf's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hmmm... maybe the after market can do an I Phone upgrade kit for these? Shows you how things have changed. I remember when us kids were very proud just to have a little AM radio of our very own! -
Addiction and Recovery

I don't have an optivisor. I'm far sighted and only started wearing glasses for close up work when I was in my 40s. The first time I noticed my diminished eye sight was when I tried to read the date on an old Mercury dime! And at first I just needed the glasses for reading small print and model building. I could still work on the computer without glasses. In the past 15 years my eyes have gotten worse so that I now wear my glasses for computer work too. In fact I got to work one day, having forgot my glasses, and was useless. Going the other way, I still don't need glasses to see distance. I can read small print a good distance away too. -
Wouldn't you know... someone mentioned bleach and the ad in this thread became Clorox!

I can click it when I'm in members mode and it will show the members who joined in the last day or so. But outside of that it just returns a "no new messages found". Since I've tested this on all the browsers, and on both my computers, it must be in my account settings. It wouldn't be in my cookie on this computer since it worked on both. Is there a way I can get this reset by a moderator?

When I was a kid in the 1965-66 time frame I had a black and white TV on a cart that my grandparents bought for my sister and I. It would get rolled into my room on Friday evening and I'd lay in bed and watch the Friday evening line up. If my foggy memory is working, it included Bewitched, Hogans Heros and Gilligans Island. Then we moved to Turkey for 1966-68. There was no TV there at all. We had Armed Forces Radio and they played all the old radio shows like Dragnet, Amos and Andy and Our Miss Brooks. So I did get some culture from before my time. Otherwise, we read books. The American library got used very well. I read the entire Henry Huggins series and a few more series, one was car related and had a kid named Woody. I'm sure someone will ID that series. We did live in the USA during 1968-69. We only had that same Black and white portable TV, but I ran home every day to watch Speed Racer, and I remember watching Hawaii 5-0. Back out of the country from 1969-72, Germany this time. We did have one cable channel that played American shows, American Forces Network, or AFN for short. They played last years shows, only a small selection since it was one channel. Then they had 10 o clock news, and a movie. Once the movie was finished, they'd play the national anthem, then sign off for the evening. That same block of shows would play during the day the next day for the soldiers who worked second shift. Since we had very limited shows, we would venture into German TV, where we could watch shows like Nanny and the Professor, Partridge Family and Brady Bunch in German. We didn't know everything that went on, but could follow the basic story line. When we got back to the US it seemed strange watching those characters speak English! Somehow Laurie Partridge was hotter speaking German! Once back in the US in 1972, it was TV heaven. We actually would watch a local NY channel that had the same line up of older shows every evening, since we liked those shows and hadn't seen the series before. Nothing like memories!

Ever notice that the men in old tv shows always look old!?!

It's a dark week at the Tri-State Scale Model Car Club and NNL East. I had the sad duty of reporting here that our charter member (the club will be 30 next year!) Todd Koncsol had passed away on Wednesday at the young age of 51. Todd was our art director, an advertising professional that worked for Bristol-Myers Squibb Company. He was responsible for all of our artwork and printing, so that's why everything we've done looks so professional. Anyone who has saved one of our flyers or wears one of our T-shirts has been touched by Todd's artwork... Todd Koncsol (left) with Bart Orlans, his lifelong friend So, in honor of Todd and Independence Day, we'd like to give away a dozen NNL t-shirts, the very last one that Todd designed. The shirt design ends at the black line. The irony of this being Todd's last design is that his passion was Mustangs. Right before he died he had just finished his 1966 Shelby clone, built from his very first car. I had seen progress shots for as long as I knew him, but he only unveiled the finished car at our June meeting, not knowing it would be his last. So... we'd like to give away six shirt in his honor on this board, and another six on another board. To get one, the only rules are that you can't have received a free shirt from me previously, and you promise to wear it! Don't worry if you are in Japan or Australia, we'll cover the postage, No problem! The first six people who respond here, and then once confirmed, will follow up by emailing me (my email is at the bottom of this post) with their mailing address and shirt size, will get a shirt!

And that's why we gave away these in 2013!

A young Tim Boyd!?
Tom Geiger replied to unclescott58's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That site is owned by David Cura, a member of my club. He was part of the International Model Car Museum's "Scan The Past" project and those are the magazines he scanned for the effort. Once the museum never moved forward to produce the promised CDs and share all the information, he put what he had on the web site. -
You are right, it was Dragnet that I saw! Just named the wrong old Quinn Martin show with brand new Fords!

Ebbro/Tamiya Citroen 2CV Fourgonnette
Tom Geiger replied to GeeBee's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Thanks Brett. I'm probably best avoiding anything I don't know about that's addicting! I have enough issues I think I'll just wait and see what happens. I have the Trabant saloon, as well as nearly every version of the 2CV including the 2CV Fourgonnette. The last Tamiya 2CV I got was at a show for $15, so I grabbed it. I do want to build at least two, one with the roof open and once closed. And the kits reflect different era cars as well. As far as the rest of the stuff I 'need', I'm probably best just forgoing it for now, and I'll eventually find them at a show cheap. I'm anticipating that sometime in the future someone will get tired of their London Bus box taking up a lot of room, and will sell it to me cheap Still, as I mentioned above, I have every cool kit that's been issued in the past 2 years and haven't even started one. I am trying to push a few more 20 year old kits off my bench right now, and what's next? A Polar Lights Beetle and a '74 Mustang II! -
Ebbro/Tamiya Citroen 2CV Fourgonnette
Tom Geiger replied to GeeBee's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Cool. I got mine for Christmas and paid $39 for it, with free shipping. So you guys got good deals. I'm still looking for a deal on the Trabant wagon version. I got the sedan version back in December. Now someone mentioned that the Ebbro Renault 4 is available. There is only one in the 'bay right now at $46 with the seller being in Japan and a reasonable $12.80 in shipping costs. I guess we can all pine after this one now! And of course I don't know why I chase these so hard. I do love 1960s Euro cars since I grew up in Germany back then, so they are familiar to me. Still, I haven't even started a kit I've bought within the last two years! And there are so many cool models, I don't know where to start. I guess that's a good problem to have!
