Beatnik Bandit Bonuses
george 53 replied to samdiego's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've never seen another version either, Sam. I think it was just Revell's attempt to let you out do Roth. I've never seen a BB built any different than the original. -
Yes, you CAN use the Chassis AND engine compartment from any of the AMT/Ertl 68. 69,am 70 Dodge/Plymouth kits to make that kit REALLY stand out. I've done this conversion MANY times and those parts fit the JoHan kits like a glove. I got my 6-Pak hood from Perry's, he used to sell an A-12 conversion kit. But that was quite a while back, but it IS a nice conversion kit. Hopefully he still lmakes it.

I know I'm the OFF one here., But IF i buy that ugly lookin thing it'll ONLY BE ONE! THAT is a HIDIOUS lookin thing. I don't care about it's historical sugnifacance, it's just plain UGLY! My freind in grade school,Trygve Hansin,'s Dad had one . It was a JUNK ! we painted it blue with HOUSE PAINT!!! Why Moebius would even THINK to pop that car is WAYYYYY beyond me. It'll ONLY interest older guys like us, who REMEMBER these hideous cars. I my self, am waiting for the 55 Chrysler. Now THAT'S a pretty car, and I have fond memories of them. It's a wonder to me, WHERE was a poll taken to mold this thing??? I never saw or heard of one, so HOW did they come to the conclusion to mold it? PERSONALLY think that even if EVERYBODY here bought a CASE of them ,they won't sell well. Too many KIDS don't even know what a Packard is. Just my opinion.

Holy............ Welp, I gotta agree John, If ANYBODY can do this, YOU DA MAN!!!! Personally, I think you are a GLUTTON for punishment, but your creative abilities cannot be denied!!! This is gonna be a FUN build!!! PLEASE keep us updated!!!!!

Personally, I LIKE that kit. I put it up to an original AMT Coronet 500 kit, And I couldn't see anydifference. They looked the same to me. the parts ALL interchange, at least the CHROME does. Wheelbase is the same, interior is too. I don't know why some think it's a lousy kit. I had a buddy in High school who's older brother had that car! VERY nice build.

Before robotics and CAD
george 53 replied to trogdor's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Believe it or not, but when I left in 06, ALOT of the BASIC building was still done the same way. Around 1985 GM went to Robotics in ALL their plants, and Robots do ALOT of the welding now, but ALOT of stuff is still installed by people. If you look at that film, watch the people do their jobs, REMEMBERING that THAT'S ALL they do, the EXACT SAME REPETITIVE MOTION, hour after hour for up to 10 hours a day(Depending on WHAT you were building), NEVER being able to get a drink, go to the john, or even SIT DOWN for ALL that time. A team leader MAY do his job PROPERLY and give rest room breaks, OR he may NOT. Depended on him. But working on the assembley line is NOT a job for folks who DON'T want to work, caz you WILL EARN EVERY CENT they pay you. THAT'S A FACT!!!!!!!!! -
GREAT begining for a "Good Humor" ice cream truck though.
-
Uhhhh, Kev, that's actually the Four "HORSEMEN" of the appocolypes" And if you SEE THOSE guys, you won't need to worry about trailers or trucks, or NUTHIN!!!!! Caz the show will be OVER!!!!!

Never had a cat. Don't like 'em enough to want one. Dogs are my thing. Westies in fact. I'd take me a good Westie over any cat. -
My Favorite Resin Casters
george 53 replied to Terry Jessee's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
The days of haveing to put up with TKM junk is GONE!!!! IF someone buys bad resin kits, It's the CASTERS fault now. Because almost ALL the casters are useing new formula resins, and the castings are MUCH better for it! I purchase ALOT of resin kits caz I'm tired of the normal run of plastic kits.Motor City, Missink Link, are some of the NEWER guys on the block, and THEIR castings are JUST as high a quality as ANY of the BETTER casters! Modelhaus included! Bandit Resin's is a GREAT caster also, as is the guy at MCW paints. I've bought from Perry's resins too, GREAT STUFF only he takes up tp SIX months to get you your stuff, EVEN THOUGH, he tells ya it's in stock when you call and ask him if it AVAILABLE!!! The old stuff from places like R&R ARE doable but NOT without ALOT of work, but sometimes ol Ray is the only game in town. he DOES do some off the wall stuff. I've never bought from Hendricks, but his stuff LOOKS good. Dealt ALOT with Steve Kohler over at Star Models. HE'LL do ya RIGHT! He'll even TELL ya if the kits worth buyin!!!! Steve is REALLY a COOL down to Earth guy. If you see something on HIS list, just call him, he'll give ya the REAL deal on what it's like. AND he's honest!!!! -
1961 Ford Starliner!
george 53 replied to my name is nobody's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
OR you could just make one of your own, useing the 61 Galaxie AND the 60 Starliner body, like Jairus did. I followed his instruction from the MCM article, and it came out PRETTY GOOD! Thanks Jair! :) -
I TOTALLY agree with Virge. A REAL nice build. The open doors look GREAT! You did a NICE job on this ol rascal! ;)
