george 53 replied to Kris Morgan's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Nick, I got this car from Kris about a month or two ago, and it IS NICE!!!! As with ALL of Kris's stuff, it's EXCELLENTLY cast an a BREEZE to put together!!!!! You'll LIKE IT! So will ANYBODY else who gets one!!!! -
Another newbie
george 53 replied to Dirty Gringo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
WElcome,Jereimiah. You'll find ALOT of stuff here is free for the askin, like advice! The Purple Pond is a nickname for CSC (Castrol Super Clean)a very powerful concentrated degreaser that strips MOST paint beautifully. Welcome to the forum!!! -
Gotta order R&R stuff from Steve Kohler over at Resin Realm. HE is the only guy Ray Parsons deals with. His stuff is KINDA hit an miss. I NEVER buy from him UNLESS I can see WHAT it is. His casting is kinda crude compared to folks like Motor City Resins, Missing Link, or the Modelhaus. IF HE is the ONLY one who has what you want, then you'll HAVE to deal with him, but if theres a BETTER model of what you want, I'd go THAT route. I've NEVER had an R&R kit that DIDN'T need some work to put together. They ARE buildable, but you GOTTA work at it. Hope this helps.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, Dan an your sweetie! I got 39 with mine and we STILL like each other!!!!!

Dang, Jim, GREAT minds think alike!!!!! I did the same thing to mine. I dropped an LT-5 in it. Not really hard to do(it's plastic) but I moved the hoses to the OTHER side of the firewall. Wanted to keep it symetric. if ya know wat I mean.I had to mate my engine to the trans that was molded into the chassis. Did you just take it out(the tranny) or did you just mount your engine to it too, without all the mod work to do it? Yours came out REAL NICE! I LIKE IT!!!!!

Oh, an Don, you ain't dun NUTHIN wrong as far as I can see, you just buildin up yer stash!!! Oh, by the way, YOU gotta GREAT wife TOO, jus like MINE!!!!!!!(Ain't WE the lucky ones?!?!)

THANKS for the pic,Matt! See wat i mean about the plugwires goin in from the top? From the original pic, it didn't look like that, still doesn't to me, but I'm glad you posted that pic so we could see how they are SUPPOSED to look. Thanks again!

ALL Boss 429 valve covers mount the plugs thru the TOP of the valve cover. His wires are too low to be correct. Sorry, but that ISN'T the way they should be installed(the plug wires). Maybe it's just the angle of the picture, but it LOOKS like they are mounted into the valve covers way too low. The plug wires do not run ANYWHERE near the exhast ports on a Boss 429. Of course it doesn't mean it's not a nice build, it IS. just wanted him to know, that way, if he builds another Boss 429, he'll know where the plugwires should go. Not a critic, just an observation. He has done a nice job on it.

Nice paint job, but you have the valve covers on upsidedown i think. Boss's plugs were on the TOP of the cylinder heads, thru the valve covers. It looks like you wired it as a conventional head, with the plugs down near the exhast ports. But i think the engine greaseing looks good. Came out nice.

It's funny how customs work. This particular kit never held any interest for me, as it was too weird for my tastes. After reading Tim's article on it, it's kinda funny that with all the old Monogram customs being REreleased that this one hasn't made the cut. Too bad, caz even though I STILL think it's weird lookin, I wouldn't mind try my hand at it. Nice Job Howard, it STILL looks just as weird as when it was new!

Purple Power to strip paint
george 53 replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Harry, I left a Revell Pre Painted 63 Chevy lo rider in PP for at LEAST TWO months, and it didn't touch the paint! After haveing to scrape at it with my thumbnail, it FINALLY must've worked it's way UNDER the paint, an then it started to work. But it was at least another two weeks of soaking to get the paint to finally come off! THAT kit is the ONLY time I've had PP NOT work!!!!!! -
Andrey, look at the bottom of the index list. under advertisers, it's right there!

I can't get it to copy, but yes, it's deanshobbystop.com/ . Sorry.

Model Cars Mag back issues?
george 53 replied to Mike Kucaba's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Mike, every issue I get has a tear out coupon/order sheet in it to order back issues. At least the subscription ones do. I don't know about the store sold ones. -
Need Your Expertise Again!
george 53 replied to dannyi's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The last pic is of a JoHan wheel. They were the only ones to use this type of wheel,Danny. The top wheel looks like a MPC 66 or so GTO wheel, coulda been a 67 too. I don't remember a JoHan Hurst wheel though. Coulda come with somethin like a AMC /Hurst designed kit. But it IS a JoHan wheel. They fit smaller tires like a 14 inch wheel. Hope this helps. -
Marc, that little ride is just TOOOOOO sweet! I LOVE the BMF job, it brings out the stylish lines of these cars! VERY nice!

Imma gonna go real with this one,Harry.

Don, Dean Sills is one of the nicest guys you gonna meet in this hobby. I met him about 20 years ago at a toyshow at Clintondale High. He had SOOOOOO many old kits(How many DID he have,Johnny?) I spent almost my whole allowance with him alone! Gotta 66 Skylark, 65 Olds Delta 88, STOCK, not that racer car abortion, and a 68 Galaxie. All were nice clean rebuilders and I got 'em all for a REALLY decent price. Yeah, Dean's a GREAT guy to deal with!
