Willys Jeep Panel

The new engines look much better. I've added an exhaust system, but it needs some fine tuning. -

The original plan was to do a hubless front wheel. I decided to do a hubbed wheel with a clear center to see how it looked. I liked certain aspects of it, but I liked the rake and how the forks go right to the ground with the hubless setup better. The fabrication is done, time to clean it up and start detailing. Here's how it's going to look. I stripped the chrome from the kit engine and made a new mold, hopefully it will have a bit more detail. I'll know tomorrow. -

I couldn't find my circle cutter so the rear tire was a bit out of round. I cast that tire and now armed with a solid tire I trued it up with a Dremel and some sandpaper. I am now in the process of casting this tire. I made the fenders for the trailer from an unkown set from something from the 30's. I took the front half of the back fenders and mated them to the back half of the front fenders. Then the side was filled in with .030 sheet and the back edges were filled with some scrap stock . I did a bit more sanding to the inside of the trailer, it's getting close to primer. I'm out of commission as far as body work, my compressor broke the other day. With a little luck, I'll have a replacement in about a week. -

I messed around with the trike a little more. I started with making new wheels and tires for the back. The framework for the tire. The tire is ready for prime and filler. I made a front tire but will probably scrap it in favor of an O-Ring if I can find one the right size. I've also started on the front forks and footpegs. -

Will a custom twin engine mini trike work? -

The floorpan for the trailer is painted. Back to the engines, I redid the plug wires on the right side engine. I removed the stock water pumps and will build an electric one to replace them, that should clean the plumbing and belts up a bit. -

Thanks for the comments guys! The frame for the trailer is done. I'm just about ready to put color on the floorpan and once I decide the cargo, I'll build the walls and ceiling. -

I've hammered on the trailer in the last 2 days. After about an hour of grinding and sanding the inside is somewhat usable. I did come close to going through the roof in one of the corners, I filled it in with some CA and it seems strong enough. I cut the floor from .040 sheet. I also cut the skirts off without damaging them. I plan to recreate the shape of them as open fenders. Next up was the frame, axle, and suspension. Upside down. Right side up. In place on the floorpan. How it all should fit together. -
I guess we've finally come to the point I've wondered about when these retro styled cars started showing up. How do you progress with the styling? Had the mustang never evolved style-wise, would there be a market for it after a few years? Who would want to buy a mustang in 1971 that looked exactly like a 64? How long should the new mustang keep the exact same body style?

Derick, the jukebox was in the box with the trailer which is a Jimmy Flintstone piece. I don't know if it was supposed to come with it or not, or even if it is a JF piece. The stock of resin at my LHS seemed to be really old, there were two trailers and only one had the jukebox. -

I found the perfect trailer for this while perusing the LHS yesterday. It's going to take a LOT of grinding to get the inside of it looking good, it's a mess in there. After a lot of grinding and sanding, Ive got one side roughed into shape and enough material removed to cut the doors out. -

I decided to do a bare bones sheet metal interior with just upholstery on the door panels. This meant sanding the inside of the body smooth. I then made the sheetmetal for the roof surround and the side body braces only to forget just how much room the rollcage takes up. My best solution was to save the back section of the roof and all of the side bracing. Here is what's left. it's upside down. You can get an idea on why the front had to get tossed. Next up was to clean up the door gaps. I used .010 x.060 to wrap the edges of the doors and sanded to fit. Opened up. A shot through the back door . -

There's less room for them than a normal hinge. -

While looking through the pics of this build, I stopped at this and was inspired to do something I've wanted to build for a long time. A Hot Rod Bread/Milk truck from the 50's. To do it proportionately to my eye, the roof and body both needed to be stretched. By just adding to the bottom I think I was able to give the illusion of a chopped delivery truck. This is where I'm at right now. I'm going to do the rear as a one piece door, I've cut the two small windows into one large back window. -

Is it not working or are you not seeing the code turn yellow and the "Copied" flash? I noticed sometimes this doesn't happen, but the link copies anyway. And to the OP, good luck with your surgery.

When you are in the album of the pic you want to post, click on the thumbnail to open the pic. Once it's open you will see a list to the right of the pic that is titled "Image Links", click on the bottom choice, "IMG code". This should copy the link, then just paste that into your post.

I don't understand why blocking is allowed. It's not racing and it's dangerous. I've got so much more to say about this, but I'm not getting too involved with another conflict thread. From the stands. Why is this in the NASCAR MODEL section and not the general section? It has nothing to do with models. -
The car had wire wheels didn't it?

There are some crazy talented people on this site, that's for sure.

Thank you everyone for the comments. I keep struggling through this build, but it's really fighting me. The front suspension is coming together and I'm about ready to permanently mount the engines. I tried as hard as I could to make internal door hinges, but poor planning left no room for them. As aggravated as I am with this build I wasn't about to redo the cage, so I went with external hinges. I know they aren't correct, but it is what it is. I do however like how they make the body look older than it really is. -
