  1. Most Revell kits are miles behind Tamiya kits. But there simply isn't a Tamiya kit for most great American subjects. The best kit I've built was the 1/32 Spitfire by Tamiya that was released a year or two ago. I will eventually do one of the 1/32 Mustangs. The best Revell kit I've built was the Chevy Nova. That kit was so much better than the Mongoose Funny Car from Revell I was working on at the same time. It's hard to believe they're from the same company.
  2. I would put Tamiya grey primer down first, followed by Tamiya white primer.
  3. I've built a Fujimi GT40. Great subject but a tough kit to get right, I thought. But that was years ago and I've improved a bunch. Good luck.
  4. I had always heard how good these Vallego acryllics were. Now they're starting to show up in my LHS. I purchased a few colors to see what the hype was about. If you have tried them, are you as impressed as I am? And if you haven't tried them, do.
  5. Simple fix: I went to Revells website and ordered the part online. No charge. I'll keep that in mind in case I screw a part up sometime down the road.
  6. You probably already know this but Tamiya now has a rattle can pearl clear. I've used it ... and I like it.
  7. I purchased a Revell kit yesterday and a part was missing from the sprue - a pretty important part, the rear end. I've purchased many kits and never seen this before that I can remember. Bonus Question: Have you ever dropped a small part in your lap or floor and spent hours roaming around on your hands and knees, only to never see the part again?
  8. I have usually never had a problem stripping chrome. I use some brand of oven cleaner and it takes it right off. But with the last two Revell kits, I'm left with a yellowish residue which is hard to remove. After using some alcohal and soaking the parts in warm soapy water it appeared gone. When I sprayed the parts with Testors Metallizer, a lot of cracking appeared when the paint dried. And this has happened multiple times. Help! Thanks!
  9. My weak spot is high gloss finishes. I can lay down a camo paint scheme, free hand with an airbrush. But I can't get a high quality gloss finish. I follow the guidance of others but I inevitably burn thru. Then because I fear burning thru, I often don't even attempt to sand or polish. And this keeps me out of the car world more than I'd like and doing military and airplanes because the finishes are flat and weathering is good good fun. I would advise anyone to venture out into other types of modeling as you will likely learn some new skills. I've completed a 1/32 F-14, a 1/16 Russian T34, many 1/48 tanks and airplanes/jets of different eras, a USS Constitution (that may get finished one day), Formula 1 models in 1/12 and 1/20 of all eras. Right now, my obsession is drag cars. Another weakness is - I know nothing about engines. I can't even check the oil in my car. So trying to wire everything in an engine proves difficult. But I try to anyway. :/ And I'm happy to see I'm not the only modeler who struggles to finish a model. About 80% thru a project I start to fancy my next project. I have a dozen or more great looking, more than half done projects that I will eventually get back to one day. Maybe. And part of the problem is I've come to feel like I have to have every single aftermarket product that is available for a kit. I blame all you professionals out there for making me dream too highly.
  10. I went to my first ever drag race this weekend. It could not have been more awesome. And I met Tommy Ivo, got his autograph, and saw up close his four engine dragster. Just walking along outside the track and Bam, there he/it was. I love Nascar but they could learn something about the show the NHRA puts on outside the track. Great looking model. I'm working on this one now. I'm scared to death of the decaling job upcoming.
  11. Everytime I've used Alcad, it's rubbed off very easily. Most people say they find it very durable. I do everything as close to the instructions as I can. But the stuff rubs right off if I handle it at all.
  12. I'm working on this kit now, along with 3 others. I'm not really a drag racing guy, but these cars are too beautiful for me not to build a few. Question- Is that windscreen really chrome? Or should it be clear? It looks clear in what few photos I can find. Thanks, and great looking build.
  13. This isn't 1/25 or plastic but this is the working Ferrari model that people are talking about. Amazing.
