Here in Richmond, we have 3 of them. I never have to drive far to re-supply.

Best place to get resin promod parts and motor parts
brad4321 replied to nitro_force_fan's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
I've gotten a few things from FlashMotorsports and I was pleased with all of it. Competitions Resins has a lot of good stuff too. -
The VEGA & PINTO Celebration Thread
brad4321 replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Having not gotten into the hobby until 2003, I am amazed at how many cool kits like these are out there. I would never have guessed you could get a drag or rally Ford Pinto! Too cool. -
To weather or not, tis is the question.
brad4321 replied to Hippie's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I prefer some weathering. I want the model to look as if you took the actual piece and shrunk it. And not many cars look as if they JUST drove off the assembly line. -
I brush some Future on. Apply a decal. Then shoot some Dullcote on via rattle can. Looks great. You can get tire decals from many different places. I got a huge set from competition resins. I never paint the raised lettering. If it's present, I sand it away and use a decal.

I enjoy building almost anything. But every type model has something I dislike doing. My favorite builds are Formula 1, especially the cars from yesteryear. But I hate building the wings. I love planes and jets, but theres just so much putty work and scribing. And masking the canopies isn't a barrel of monkies either. I love tanks but building the tracks is miserable. I like cars but I'm not great at high gloss finishes. So I go thru cycles so that I'm always fresh. I never want the hobby to feel like work, and occassionally it does. And when that happens I put the project aside for a while and dive into something that keeps me excited. Because having fun is more important than having a finished project right away - for me it is anyway.

Why Did Figures in Model Kits Disappear?
brad4321 replied to Casey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I throw all figures immediately into the garbage. They always look toylike and not as realistic as the model itself. I always cringe when I see a figure included in or by someone's beautiful car or plane. -
1/16 Engine Build
brad4321 replied to Pro Tech's topic in WIP: All The Rest: Motorcycles, Aviation, Military, Sci-Fi, Figures
Charlie - Will do, and soon. I don't do checks. And a stop at the post office is indeed painful. -
Thanks Casey. I looked yesterday. No luck.

1/16 Engine Build
brad4321 replied to Pro Tech's topic in WIP: All The Rest: Motorcycles, Aviation, Military, Sci-Fi, Figures
Looks great! Will you be at the show this month in Richmond, Va? I need quite a few of those things and placing an order seems like quite an ordeal ... so I've been putting it off. -
Great looking model. They don't just put any model on the cover of a magazine. Congrats. But I just can't buy this kit because I find the car so ugly. And it's all because of that rear end and the rear wheels being hidden.
-
I got the 1/16 rear funny car wheels from Flash Motorsports Resins. Their stuff looks great and arrives quick. Anyway, I need some Goodyear decals for them. Many thanks.
-
The detail master stuff is decent unless you have to bend it the slightest amount.

Some ebay users don't get it...
brad4321 replied to Hypermung's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Always so much complaining about "evilbay". All I know is occassionally find a great deal on something I want. I've had nothing but 100 percent success with ebay. -
Tamiya Paint?
brad4321 replied to SuperStockAndy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I found a can of grey primer last week. Yay! But here in Virginia, more colors than not are all out. -
O well. The last decals I got from them stink.

New Tamiya 1/12 big scale racing car?
brad4321 replied to The Creative Explorer's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Yes, Tamiya kits are 12 times better than Revell kits. -
Spoiled and Depressed
brad4321 replied to Swifster's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I like walking into a store, looking at a selection, and going home with something ... now. I hate shopping online. If I run out of a supply, I like going the store and getting it vs. placing an order and waiting a week or more. What about that process says "24 hour convenience"? Sometimes I go, man I need a new kit today! I don't know what I'm going to be in the mood to work on 7-10 business days from now. -
'55 Revell Pro Sportsman. What bodies....
brad4321 replied to brad4321's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Guys, thank you! I figured it would work with almost anything with some tweaking. I just don't have any spare bodies sitting around to test with. I'm more an F1 kind of guy. But I have a completed 55 sportsman chassis and I don't know if I'm feeling the 55 Chevy. -
What bodies, resin or otherwise, fit the 55 Pro Sportsman kit? or the AMT '66 Nova Prostreet? They both seem like could be nicely bashed with other kits.
-
And with that tricky front end piece, I glued it in and completely sanded it flush on each side. Then I scribed in the lines in. That side light is gone. Incorrect but its my car and I make the payments on it. : )
-
My rear wheels aren't close to correct. I think maybe the chassis is warped downward? so that there is a ton of space between the top of the tire and the wheel well. And thats still after shortening the leaf springs. I'm still having fun with it but I've cursed out loud more than a few times.

I need some good tips concerning a 1/16 funny car.
brad4321 replied to brad4321's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Thanks. The decal sheet says metallic black if I remember correctly. But Slixx has been wrong before. -
Nice job. This kit has almost been thrown into a wall a few times. Nothing is close to fitting correctly. One of the sorriest kits I've attempted. But I WILL finish this thing and finish it well. Then no more AMT junk for me for a while.

I love the idea - at least more road courses. But when I chat with most Nascar fans, the word 'road course' brings boos and hisses. Many Nascar fans care little about the cars and the x's and o's of racing. They care more about the personal drama.
