  1. Of course they want to double and triple their return. I manage a golf shop. Almost everything in here is at least doubled. The company has to pay all kinds of bills. If they buy an old lamp for 50 and sell it for 100, they don't have 50 in "profit". They have 50 in margin. Then from that 50 comes all kinds of expenses before we can talk about profit. The man who owned the old lamp was obviously content to get 50 for it or he wouldn't have agreed to sell it for 50. He shouldn't then turn around and be upset because it was sold for 100 on the retail market. When I go into my LHS, should I be upset I paid 75 for a kit that they got for 30? No. That's business.
  2. I did see the models in the background. I don't understand why people are getting upset at the process of buying low and selling high. I would sell anyone a nickel for a dollar if that's what they were willing to pay. Both buyer and seller have to agree on a number and thus both sides were in agreement on what said item was worth. I've never understood why people allow their panties to get in a knot about an ebay price. If the price is too high in your opinion, simply don't buy it. Someone else perhaps will and then the seller looks smart. If no one does, he or she will have to lower the price until a buyer is found.
  3. Strada is only hobby company I've ever had a problem with. Nothing worse than paying for a product that you will never receive.
  4. Thanks! I would love to build this kit ... but I doubt I ever will. I hate doing carbon fiber decals and this kit would need about an acre of them.
  5. I thought user names were evil and that we if we didn't all call each other by our real life names we wouldn't possibly be able to treat each other in a civilized manner. That's what I was told when the "you must include your real life name or you're not welcome here" thing was going on. I'm not sure what my user name is. brad4321 maybe? That's my name with 4 easy to remember numbers after it. It means absolutely nothing. My avatar is my favorite driver displaying his pretty new sponsor and livery.
  6. I resisted FB for the longest time. I thought it was for people who enjoy socializing. But after being on it for a few years, it hit me it's perfect for someone like me who tends to be anti-social. It's an easy way to keep in touch with people you wouldn't otherwise ever keep in touch with.
  7. I've been in the hobby for less than ten years. But I spent the first several of those years completely ignorant to the fact that there were aftermarket parts, and fancy glues and putties, etc. I had no idea people actually sanded away seams, or stripped chrome, or wired engines, etc.I figured the hobby was for me and a bunch of 9 yr olds. And boy was I obviously wrong. It's one thing for the tools and techniques to be available. It's another to know about them. Not a year goes by that I don't learn a great new way to do something, and think, gosh I wish I had known about that years ago. Modeling is like golf. You always continue to learn and get better. And no matter how bad or great you think you are, there are hundreds better and hundreds worse than you are. The hobby is both rewarding and humbling.
  8. Zero chance I'm ever painting a dude with his shirt off.
  9. I would prime it and paint it all black because I've never seen a real half clear, half black version of that car. I've just never felt any urge to do a clear body car, especially considering how easy it is to lift the body to show off the interior.
  10. I've done it several times. It works the same. The only difference I can remember is that it takes longer. And everytime I've received my merchandise which is not something I can say about US companies, not to mention any, Stradasports, cough cough.
  11. There are kits in my closet that I wouldn't start or finish if they were the last kits on earth. I hate 1/72 airplanes, but I guess had to start a couple to realize that. I also hate cars that aren't race cars and don't know why I have a couple in the stash. I don't keep a large collection because I have zero desire to own any kit that I don't intend to build.
  12. Cool! Their music is impossible to listen to, but cool to see others have the disease.
  13. I'm currently building a 1/16 Revell F/C. I used the pedal that was given with the kit. Don't I feel lame? The thing I love about this build is that everything you've done looks so do-able. It's just a question of whether one has the patience and dedication to get it done.
  14. I never buy a kit I don't intend to start right away. I usually can't resist pulling the cellophane off even before leaving the parking lot of the LHS. One the drive home, I'm already making plans for the new kit. This policy normally leaves me about 6 WIP's at any given time.
  15. From a rattle can, I've seen nothing come close to Tamiya. And when airbrushing, Tamica acrylics are very easy to use. For brush painting which I rarely do, I've been using Vallero and they are pretty great.
  16. The one and only time I was in Daytona, it just so happened to be bike week. I will never go to another city in which it is "bike week".
  17. I have to get up at 2am to watch this weekend. But I watch every race live regardless of what time it starts. Can't wait. But I hope the Bulls aren't so dominating this year. We were getting spoiled there with great WDC battles. Ready for another one this year.
  18. I saw on the big screen, and I had to drive a couple hundred miles to do so. And it exceeded my expectations. I took my girlfriend who has no clue what F1 is and she thought it was fantastic. If you like auto racing, I don't know how you could not want to be an F1 fan after seeing this movie.
  19. That's one of the prettiest F1 cars ever. I built that cars years ago. It's an easy kit ... for F1. I remember the stripe on the front edge of the front wing is impossible to do with the decal given. For me anyway. It's easy though to mask it and paint it. I promise masking and painting is simpler than trying to get the decal to conform to the complex curve. Also, I painted the blue areas instead of using decals. As far as primer, I only prime body parts for the most parts. Most smaller pieces in the engine and suspension don't absolutely require primer in my opinion. If you don't prime the body parts though the black from underneath will ruin the look of the green on the outside. Have fun, good luck.
  20. I did the opposite. Forever I was scared of the airbrush. Once I got one and learned the nuances, I thought, Wow I can't believe I ever used rattle cans for everything. I still use the cans for a lot of basic stuff. But I love to do jets and planes and tanks and you have to use an airbrush for quality results. I love cars but I almost never do one or finish one because I cannot learn how to get a great gloss finish. So jets and planes and tanks it is.
  21. HDMI cable?? Zero clue what that is. Sounds perfect though!
  22. What's a good way to make the silver cord that connects the car to the parachute? Thanks in advance.
  23. I have to mix it up to keep motivation high. Jets, tanks, planes, bi-planes, drag cars, F1, whatever. If it's loud or fast or blows stuff up, I wanna build it.
  24. Some of us just build and never post a thing. I've never posted a single pic of a model I've built. I hate the whole process of getting pics off a camera and onto a computer and blah blah blah. Maybe one day I'll actually show another human what I've built. As far as building, I have marathon days on my days off occasionally. I will build for 12-15 hours straight sometimes. Then days when I work it may be 2, 3, or 0 hours.
