  1. Wow. I will never again post a topic on this website for fear I may place it in the wrong category. I didn't know it was such a hot button topic. But afterall, model building IS a matter of life and death.
  2. The most impressive thing about this model to me is that you've painted nothing. I wish I had that kind of patience. I enjoy seeing my models come along with finished assemblies here and there and thus I end up painting as I go. My builds will no doubt be better if I could force myself to do what you do. I have no idea why I'm such a hurry.
  3. Usually, I like to. But often there's some fool who insists on going only 300mph in the left lane.
  4. Most of the time I build race cars that actually existed and thus the course of action is set. Otherwise I typically start off with a plan but allow myself to deviate when appropriate. If it's armor and I'm weathering, I have no idea what the final outcome will be. I just dive in and play it by ear as I go. If something breaks by accident .... it's battle damage!!
  5. Very exciting. F1 cars that I want to build are coming out much faster than I can build them or afford them.
  6. Cool! But I thought the "old" cars were cool looking too.
  7. This is a bit off topic but... I went to my first NHRA race a couple of months ago. I didn't know sh*t from shinola while I was there. I remember thinking, why don't we see more of these Pro Mods? I thought they were the coolest looking vehicles there. I personally wish they'd replace the Pro Stock Motorcycles with Pro Mods. Am I alone in wanting to see them more?
  8. Ooooooh, great, thanks. It was killing me not knowing. I love building these drag racing cars but it's frustrating not knowing what the parts you're working with actually do. I'm only about 2 months into drag racing fandom. I went to my first NHRA race in September and now I'm hooked.
  9. Thanks! But if I buy that, I'm just gonna wanna end up building a 1/32 Sopwith!
  10. Thanks for the info. That was my plan, but I've never done it before. How hard can it be? NIce job on the front wheels. The ones in the box do look silly. Question for you. I'm not a drag racing person. Why does the left tire have the ring and the right tire not? Thanks.
  11. Absolutely. I allllllllmost threw a model last night. Building a Revell kit when you're used to Tamiya quality will sometimes give me fits. I realize 99% of the problems I might have are self inflicted and getting angry doesn't help. But sometimes you can't help it. And making a mistake with something you know better drives me crazy. I'm painting this Nova. I put white primer over grey primer before the orange. But with the hood I only used white primer. So now the hood is one shade brighter than the body. Arrrgghhhhh..... And how awful is finishing up a kit you loved only to find out one wheel isn't flush on the ground?
  12. Looks great! I'm about 99% done with this kit and it really tested my skills. Did you use the kit supplied headers? I'm gonna try to scratchbuild some.
  13. Dude, get going! I'm working on this same kit and your build is the best reference I can find. About 500 hundred of those "views" are from me, but I haven't commented once. Not much I can say that hasn't already been said. This is one great looking build. Sometimes it inspires me to improve my own skills. Other times it inspires me to start a bon fire with all my kits and quit the hobby. I hope when mine is done it is 75% as good as yours.
  14. I'm a golf professional and thus my hours go way down in the winter - which means I have MUCH more time to devote to model building. I'm gonna try to not buy any kits for some time. I have about 4 in progress that should keep me occupied easily thru xmas.
  15. It makes me sad to see a model that has a ton of detail; tons of photoetch and aftermarket; and then I see decals silvered, ugly seams unsanded, etc. A model built very cleanly right from the box is better to look at than one with tons of detail built poorly. I guess most of us can say there are plenty of modelers we can beat, and plenty that are in another world. I think I'm very good until I see some of the builds here. The really really good ones make me either want to get way better ... or start a bon fire with the unstarted kits I have.
  16. Welcome. I remember my first build. When I started I figured it would be the only one I ever did. And when I was done, I thought I had built something nice. What a joke. I've built over a hundred I guess by now. And models I thought were great at the time, I look back on now and laugh at myself. And if you stick with the hobby, likely you'll do the same. There is always a new technique to be mastered. Good luck!
  17. Personally, I can't think of any subject that I was super anxious to build that wasn't available. I build tanks, planes, jets, race cars of any kind, motorcycles - each from all kinds of eras. My fear is the opposite - that I will never have the time to build every model out there that I really want to. It's a great time, for me at least, to be into this hobby.
  18. I purchased a can. It was the same size as the old ones, nice and tall. And from what I could tell, it was the same stuff. I haven't found any other primer that I like.
  19. They are large indeed. I have several of them in varying stages of development in storage. I always have about ten projects going. Fortunately over time, I've started putting more detail, care, and time into each model so I don't finish them all that often.
  20. I know. Reissues, original, whatever. Those cars were very attractive and the kits are very fun. I wish too, they did some more recent F1 cars in 1/12. As long as they are better than that ###### 1/12 Ferrari kit of a few years ago. That was a waste of money.
  21. I'm going to answer this question as if it read, "If you could only build one series for the rest of your life, what would it be?" And the answer for me is the 1/12 Formula 1 kits by Tamiya. Those retro F1 cars are gorgeous and the kits are fantastic. They're both doable and very challenging at the same time. And they are a great foundation for any level of super detailing you think you're up for. But they also look amazing right out of the box.
  22. I have a Revell 1/16 funny car. I didn't want to do the Jungle Jim Vega so I purchased a Mustang body from Competitin Resins, the Trojan Horse decals and the interior tin to go with it. Getting this body to fit with the Revell kit looks like it's going to test my current skill level and experience. A) What's the best way to make a windshield? The body includes some clear sheet. I've made two attempts and both were close but neither were 100% perfect. And in this scale, it has to be perfect. Anyone know where I can find some good reference photos of this car. Not much exists that I can find. C) Any other tips you've learned putting the Revell kit with an aftermarket body would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance if anyone can help!
  23. I spend way more than I should. It used to be good enough for me to buy a kit - work on that kit for a month or two - and buy no aftermarket stuff. Now I gotta get aftermarket this and photoetch that. I'll spend 40 on the model and 100 on ###### to go with it. Then about the time I've 75% done, I start the process over on a new project. My bedroom looks like a tiny car workshop. There's bodies drying over here and chassis stuff over there and finished wells over yonder. But I'm not married so I totally get away with it.
  24. I like Tamiya's extra thin liquid cement a lot. Works great and very easy.
  25. I've been working on and off on a Model King Torino Nascar car. There are so many issues with the chassis - both fit and accuracy. It's the worst fitting kit I can remember doing right now. BUT it has been a great learning experience for me as I have scratch buillt parts and test fitted and test fitted and test fitted without yet throwing into a wall. I'm proud of myself and when (if) this car makes on the display shelf, I will look at with satisfaction and pride.
