How Technologically Savvy Are You?
brad4321 replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm 36 years old. I've never owned a computer. I got my first cell phone when I was 27 and my current phone was $15. I never post photos of my builds because I don't really know how to. I hate new technology because I struggle with it. I struggle with it because I hate it. We all got around just fine for thousands of years without all this fancy stuff and I'm doing just fine now. If I were rich, I'd certainly get me a smart phone and a fancy computer. But right now, I don't need a computer bad enough to justify spending hundreds of dollars on one. -
1/16 Scale Army Vega Funny Car - Finished 10/14/2018
brad4321 replied to Mooneyzs's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Chris, I'm working on this same kit. Of course I could never post pictures of mine as it will be nothing compared to yours. I'm building mine a few steps behind you - basically robbing your ideas and using your build for reference. So that being said, Hurry up! Actually, don't hurry because this kit may end up the most expensive one I've ever built by the time I'm done. -
Worlds Rarest Automobile

And such an ugly color. -
I've used maybe 10 different online model stores. The only one I've had a problem with was Strada Sports.

Who's excited or is it just me?
brad4321 replied to Tye Brown's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There are far more models available that I desperately want to build than there is time for me to do them. In other words, I will never build every model I would like to. That either makes me quite happy or super stressed. I'm not sure which. My current modeling approach is to make less models but use my full potential with each of them. It finally hit me that one very good model was better than three none of which you're happy with. -

Let me know. In the meantime, if there's a specific issue you're having, fire it at me. -

I'm always available for golf advice. My golf game is infinitely better than my modeling skills. -

Now that everyone knows my name, I would also like to add that I am not a criminal. I got a speeding ticket once. Okay, twice. -
scales larger than 1/8 ?
brad4321 replied to dpride's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Be careful. The Big Boyz section says, "1/8, 1/12, or 1/16". You don't want to anger the over anal everything must go in the proper category police. -
My favorite putty is Tamiya. Every kind I've tried not Tamiya I thought was weak in comparison. When I first started filling seams, I had the most danged trouble. But eventually I got it. What did I learn along the way? I don't know. I just eventually got it. I just throw some putting on there - enough to fill the gap but the least amount as possible. Then after it dries, I use one sanding stick gritty enough to take the putty down to level. Then two more sanding sticks to get it super smooth. Shoot some primer on and see where needs additional work and do so. Good luck.

What a phenomenal movie. I drove 3 hours to see it this summer. My girlfriend tagged along. She's never heard of F1 and she loved it. Thanks for the tip. I can't wait to watch it. Twice.

Good job. I put about 6 hours into this kit yesterday. The roll cage is really tough to build. Many stars have to align. I cannot decide what color to paint the body. Any suggestions?

Stubburn Chrome
brad4321 replied to cherokeered's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I noticed this week my AMT chrome was extra stingy about coming off. The same stuff that takes the Revell chrome off hardly touched the AMT chrome. Sometimes I prime right over the chrome, but only if it's a small part that isn't going to take much handling or weathering. The biggest concern with priming over the chrome is the further loss of detail. I've never really had the paint fall or anything. Now the undercoat? Anyone have a good method for that ######? -
Search problems...
brad4321 replied to SuperStockAndy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I totally gave up on the search option on this site. Words that obviously exist dozens of times yield the result, "no results found". -
I've found they stick to anything for sure. It's just that if you spray it over paint, it doesn't buff or shine. It's amazing as a primer in that it will show ANY of the tiniest flaws. It hides nothing. It will test your sanding skills.

I've had good luck using metalizers over the years. But they work best on bare plastic and not at all over primer. But if a piece has to be primed, will the metalizer work as well over a glossy black finish as it does bare plastic? Hopefully someone already knows so I won't have to experiment.

Models in Walmart.....
brad4321 replied to coolplastic's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If Walmart had models, I may be able to stand it in there for 5 minutes instead of the usual 1. Luckily, I have two LHSs closer than the nearest Walmart. -
any formula 1 fans here?
brad4321 replied to edward smith's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
No doubt they did. But it doesn't matter to me one bit how many fans any sport has. That day made ME more a fan of Formula 1 because I believe a sport is a sport before it's entertainment. And the FIA that weekend made the right choice instead of doing something stupid just to appease all the fans that showed up. -
I wouldn't know what to do with a finished model. I always have about a half dozen in various stages of production. I could spend the next 2 years just finishing projects I've started and never completed. And what's stupid is, a model can be going fantastically and I'll still walk away from it for a while.

any formula 1 fans here?
brad4321 replied to edward smith's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Formula 1 is my favorite sport, and the way F1 handled that weekend is one of the reasons I love it so much. It's sport before it's entertainment and that's why it entertains me so. Any other racing series would've done something silly to ensure the Michelin teams raced. It was Michelin who decided to not have it's teams race. And bless F1 for saying, if you don't want to participate, don't participate. Anyway, it's the most entertaining sport in the world to me. As far as F1 modeling, I love doing the older stuff. The Tamiya 1/12 kits are an absolute blast. I love the way the modern cars look but I just can't stand dealing with all the carbon fiber. That process gets old quick for me. -
Anyone here play guitar?
brad4321 replied to SuperStockAndy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've tried and tried. I learned I have zero music talent. I can't tune it without a tuner. I'm right handed but I play left handed because in college there was a left handed sitting around the living room. I can play most stuff but only if I have access to the tabs. And I hung out with some musicians in younger days. Seeing the talent they had really deflated my ego. I stick with sports. Sports I can do.
