Virgil, I have mixed the pearls in Future and then sprayed it on the kit. It works great in either Future or another clear. I've also expiermented with it by mixing it in the color but haven't had to good a result doing it that way. I also think that if you brushed it on it would just streak and look terrible. Dan

Thanks Dave. This one I rebuilt from a glue bomb. It's the Lindberg kit, not very detailed, but was worth saving in my eyes I thought. Dan

Donn and Virgil if I may tune in here fer a moment I would like to show ya what I did using Pearl-X Gold Pearl. What I did was mix it in clear and sprayed it over Red and you can see what the result is. You can see the Red and the Gold depending on how the light hits it. It also has a kinda Orange look to it. I have experimented with the Pearl-X pearls and I like them very much. I have a few more builds that I've used it on. I used two scoops with a stirrer to mix it and I've also experiminted with different mixes. The more pearl you use the less covering you need to do, but again, it depends on what you're going for. I have built a few really "Box Stock" cars and trucks awhile back. A few years ago I got tired of trying to build and paint some kits, so, to try and get myself outa the rut that I was in, I took some kits out of their boxes, cleaned them up a bit and then just glued them together and then put them back in the boxes that they came out of. No paint, no nothin, just cleaned up and glued together. Now, that's really box stock. Dan P.S. Now I'm taking them apart and trying to fix them up. -
Here are some pics of a Jeep that I took using a LED flashlight shinnning overhead in a darkened room. The first pic is one in regular light and the rest are with the flashlight. I used a Sony 4 mega pixel camera for these shots that belongs to my wife. Dan

Yes Virgil, it is a lot fun, but, you can get into a tight spot ifin ya don't be careful. Once, a friend of my wife's had a picture of her family without one of her sons in it and asked me if I could take out her son's ex-girl friend and put him in her slot, and I said that I could. Well, when he came home one time, he saw the picture on the wall and said "I don't remember being in that picture" and she told him what was done to the picture and he didn't like it. Oh well, you can't please everyone. Dan

Here are some pictures of a 40 Ford that I did working again with Photoshop. These first two are pictures of the car out in the field. The field is a park and I painted the car in the picture. In this next one I was going for a car sunk down in the weeds. This last one is the car setting on the rocks when it accually is setting on a dresser. Dan

Thanks Virgil. It might have been the wrong time period for the car , but I got the look I was going for. Dan

Thanks Harry. To hear that from you means a lot to me. Dan

Chossing the right airbrush gun

I use Testors little bottle paints (enamels) most of the time, about 99% of the time. I mix it 60% thinner and 40% paint. I set my air pressure at between 15-20 psi for painting. When I paint Alclad I set the air pressure at 10-15 psi. I've done it this way for many many years and have no problems. I also have less overspray this way. Now, I use an enamel reducer from the NAPA parts store to thin my paint. The paint dries to the touch in about 15 minutes. I haven't gotten around to using laquer thinner to thin enamels yet because that goes against what I was tought in school when thinning paint. Laquer thinner for laquer and enamel reducer for enamel. Some day I might try thinning enamel with laquer thinner if Donn can convence me. See ya Donn at our contest in March. Dan -
Here's one that I saved from the bone yard. It took over 20 some odd years to find a trunk lid for it and I used parts from other cars to get it road ready. The front axel is from a 40 Ford coupe, the rear axel and springs are from a 56 Chevy, and the front bumper is from the 40 Ford truck. The engine is from one of the flat fender Jeeps of WWII. Dan

Yep, I built a '59 Impala, '71 Nova, a '70 Chevelle SS, and a '74 Camaro like the ones I used to own. Next I have '76 Firebird Formula (mine was an Esprit), '86 Z28, and a '02 Z28. I want to build one of an '87 Dodge Power Ram, '95 Tahoe 2dr and a '77 Jeep CJ5. Problem with these last ones i they don't make a model of these. Oh well, that's the way the old ball bounces I guess.
