  1. Canfield, yep, that's it. The old noggin ain't so good as it used to be. I know the area you mentioned by the Bus station. I used to work very close to there. I grue up in East Akron, not far from there. Yer 63 is lookin perty good now. The color is just so right for that car. Dan
  2. I have used Testor's enamels for a very long time myself. Way back in the early 60's first with a brush and now with an air brush. I do like Donn does with one exception, I use 1:1 Enamel reducer instead of lacquer thinner. The paint dries very quickly using the reducer, about 10 minutes. Fast enough for me to handle the parts. I also reduce the mixture by one third paint and two thirds reducer. This way I can lower the air pressure to 15-18 psi. Here is a picture of the 53 Ford that I painted with Testor's enamel. Dan
  3. David, Lewis Center is just North of Columbus about ten miles and South of Delaware about the same miles. Just at the South end of Delaware county. I'm from Akron originally and moved down here in 1998. I wish I was still in the Akron area though. I don't like the atmosphere down here and too much much traffic for me. But, the wife loves it here. So, guess what, we're here for the stay I guess. I've heard of Hubbard Ohio. Have you ever gone to the swap meet at------, man I forget the name of the town now. It's just west of Youngstown on 224. Bummer. Dan
  4. She's lookin perty good David for a glue bomb. The one glue bomb that I did was an original from 63 and the detail is much better than the re-issues are. I also have two of the re-issues to put together and I will use one of the firewalls that I made and also get a better engine for the car. I do like the color that you chose for yours. I like Blue Chevy's as much as Red ones. Looking forward to seeing this one finished. Dan
  5. OK, these kits are not that bad to put together in my opinion. Here are some pics of how I built them. Dan
  6. I've used Alclad's black and Testor's black, and I have had better results with the Testor's black. Attached are two pics that show the results I got using Testor's black as an undercoat. Dan
  7. Thanks to all my fellow VETS. Naha, Okinawa 1967-1970. U.S. Army, SP/5. Ohio National Guard, Staff Sargent E-6, 1973-1974. May GOD bless each and every one of us VETS, past, present and future. I SALUTE you all. Dan Popeko
  8. Rob, you're doing justice to a beautiful car my friend. I really like what you've done to the hood. It looks like it came that way from the factory. I'm looking forward to updates on this build fer sure. That sedan delivery I told ya about is on the back burner for now. I have other builds to concentrate on for awhile. Dan
  9. Or be Square. I'll be there fer sure Ron. See ya, bye. Dan :D
  10. Here's one that I did while on Okinawa back in 1967. I don't think it's right cause I could never find pictures of the 65 GTO that Knafel ran. It's still not finished either. LOL. Dan
  11. I use Testors enamels in the little jars and also the Pearl X powders mixed in clear or Future to paint. I agree with Donn Yost, but I use real car enamel reducer to thin my paints. They dry pretty quickly this way also. I just haven't gotten the nerve to try thinning with lacquer thinner yet. I also know a lot of others who thin enamels with lacquer thinner, I just haven't tried it yet. I will one of these days. Virgil, I use Future for my clear coat all the time and I haven't had any problems. Dan
  12. I used to play some. While I was stationed on Okinawa back in 67-70 I was in a band known as "The Image of Love". Well, that's what we called ourselves anyway. We played for the service clubs and never got paid, just for the fun of it. I still have my guitar and I haven't played it in a whole lot of years now. I bought a Guya Tone guitar from Japan in 1968. I also still have the shirt that we all had made to look the same on stage. Man, those were the days. :) Dan
  13. Yeah, and I cut it twice and it's still to short. Dan
  14. Drew, I used a #10 hole punch. It's about a half inch in diameter I think. It fits perfect around the part that you punch out of the lid. Dan
  15. If you were to flip a coin about these two kits, I would just say heads I win , tails you loose. Nuff said. And yes, I misspelled Nuff on purpose. Dan
  16. Good lookin Hudson ya got there Lanny. Nice weathering job ifin ya ask me. Dan
  17. Well, I guess that it's better that I never got one then, cause I would have destroyed a bunch of models back then. Dan
  18. You talkin bout the one that Auto World sold Ed? I always wanted one of those but didn't have the money and I ended up using the thread instead. Dan
  19. Yer welcome David. I do have that plate if ya want that. Let me know. Dan
  20. Let me see here, 5 reasons huh. Well here goes. 1. To get away from the better half for awhile. 2. Take a nice slow cruse to where ever the show is. Tying up traffic as I go. 3. Gawking at all the models at the show. Also looking at the little cars and trucks. 4. Eating food, either bad or good. It doesn't matter. 5. Take a nice slow cruse back home with or without something I bought at the show. Also tying up traffic going back. Just kiddin guys. 1. Lookin at the great models at the show. 2. Meeting new friends and saying hi to the old ones. 3. Selling stuff at the vender tables. 4. Enjoying the trip to the show. 5. Talking about the different ways that others build. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Dan
  21. Well Virgil, the thread way is also old school. I know, cause I used to do it that way back in the early 60's and I'm a little old to boot. I don't do it that way now though. Stuart, is there a link to this video? I'd like to see it. Dan
  22. I don't have Achilles's heel, I just have the two that I was born with. Just kiddin. Something like I said in the other thread. My weaknesses are my strengths and my strengths are my weaknesses. I have learned a whole bunch of stuff here and in the two clubs that I belong to and I'm still learning. In all on my 64 and a half years and the last 40 some years of building, I just in the last month have entered a contest other than the local club contest and won 5 plaques. Two thirds, two seconds and one first. Just goes to show you that you can teach an old dog new tricks after all. Posting pics is another thing that I am lacking in doing when I am working on something. Just ask Chris (Zipper). OK, I'll stop now, and thanks to everyone who has helped me in the past, weather you know it or not. Dan
  23. My strengths are my weaknesses and my weaknesses are my strengths and all I need now is for someone to explain to me what I just said. Oh, by the way, I have a 1968 Firebird that I started when I was on Okinawa back in 1968 and it's still not finished. It's just setting in a box lookin kinda cute and waitin patiently fer me to get back to her. Some day-------------yeah, some day. Dan P.S. I just remembered that I have a 1961 Chevy truck that I built back in 61 and then I decided to redo it and it's still in a box waitin. Now you talk about patience and waiting to get finished.
  24. I wonder why AMT didn't re-issue it with the original parts, and why they cheapened the engine detail. I did restore mine and I also filled in the engine block and used stubby axles. I also had to make the top part of the radiator. David, if you want a firewall, I did make a resin one that you can have. Just PM me your address and I'll send it to you. You will have to do some finishing touches to it though. Dan
