Thanks Dominik, I appreciate the comments alot mate Well I feel kinda bad for having not made a new update on this for weeks. I have been spending an hour at the bench here and there where I can but it's slow going Anyway, here is the front bucket under contruction, still not completely happy with the shape just yet but I'll work it out. Small update I know but it's something I guess. Thanks for looking, more progress when I can

No worries Jason, always happy to help where I can Well, I still need to finish off my turbo tutorial. I was part way through it when we moved house and I lost some pieces somewhere lol. I'll have to dig through my model mess and find them, so I can finish it off. Here's a built one- -

It's ok! Nutella will do the trick, but you need to eat twice as much for the same effect -
What can I use for raised letters?
mopar68 replied to mopar68's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks Jim. I agree limited styles, but it's something at least. Might be worth looking into more, thanks Yea, I'm on the lookout for an Optivisor, ever since I saw Dr Cranky using one in his vids At least I think it was an Optivisor lol Genius idea Chas, thanks Thanks Harry, you're probably right actually. I'll get my mate to do up a few tyre decals soon and try those out. If I were to sell at some stage though, would people rather use decals or raised letters? I suppose like you say, they'd be too thick to be realistic, so most serious modellers would probably rather use decals. Thanks Joseph. I don't suppose you sell any of your PE work? I can think of many parts other than tyres where raised letters/designs would be useful too. Thanks for the replies and suggestions fellas, I appreciate it -

Thanks George, got a few more tutorials to finish putting together when I get the time. I have seen a few of Stumps' builds, very talented bloke I must say. And I'll tell you the secret- it's the Vegemite -
Those indoor pics really didn't do this build justice Luke!

Now we can glue our brackets onto the desired area (no, on the model I meant, not your fingers ). Space them according to what you're planning on bolting between them Make sure you use a fairly strong glue, you'd be surprised how much these things will go through between now and final assembly. I usually use Plastruct Weldene, it's pretty strong as long as the fit is good. Now we wait for the glue to dry. Once it's dry, we'll wait for it to dry a little more, just in case Now we can grab a file, or one of those little scraps of sandpaper floating around the bench, and shape the brackets to make them all pretty Aaaaaaannnnnd presto! Beautiful brackets, made by you, for you Extra credit for the super-rushed 'coil-over' in this pic lol So there you have it, hope this benefits someone somehow. Have fun people As always, feedback/criticism/hate mail/whatever might come to mind is welcome -

Thanks Manuel! Ok just a little follow-up tutorial which was requested by JasonFL. Sorry it took a bit longer than expected Jason Let's have a crack at suspension brackets shall we Nice and simple one, these come in handy for other things too, for example roll cage gussets could be done in a very similar manner. Sorry for the less than amazing pics though, new camera and I'm still working out the settings lol This is our test subject- a not quite completed scratch built beach/baja type buggy thingamajig. The perfect candidate First of all, we'll roughly sketch out the size we want the bracket on some 0.5mm styrene sheet. Probably not totally necessary but helpful to some extent I suppose Let's grab a round file and make a nice little notch where the bracket will attach to the frame. Obviously the shape of this side will depend on the shape of what you're attaching the bracket to. Now we'll find our pinvise and drill a couple of holes in each soon to be bracket. These are for whatever 'bolts' we're planning on using in there later on, so drill each hole in roughly the same spot so they'll line up later Ok, now we can use our trusty No. 11 to cut our brackets out. Don't worry too much about the shape just yet; you can afford to cut them a little too big. -
Coming along great Chas, spectacular work!

Sweet build Luke, and so colourful Super clean as always, the main reason I love your builds so much. Me likes it very much

G'day fellow modellers I've recently started playing around with scratch building wheels in various scales, and now I'm starting to think about scratching some tyres too. I'm confident about getting some form of generic tyre shaped up, but I'd like to go a bit further with the detail if I can. All potential copyright infringements aside, what could I use to get the raised sidewall letters? I've spoken to a mate who does vinyl cutting, but his attempts to cut stuff that small have proven unsuccessful. Now that I think of it though, I'm not sure if it's like that with all vinyl cutters or just the bigger ones? He has a pretty big one I think, for doing signs and stuff. I've looked at resin decals, but it seems no one does even generic letters. Custom PE would be awesome, but I imagine getting that done would turn out expensive. Even doing it myself with one of those kits would probably cost a bit by the time I finally got a useable piece(s). Obviously cutting the designs from styrene wouldn't be impossible, but it certainly wouldn't be easy. Ideas anyone? Thanks
